'The Wire' actor says his son was critically injured in Georgia tornado
ATLANTA – Actor Tray Chaney, known for his role in "The Wire," said that his son was seriously injured when he was thrown 300 feet from his room as a tornado barreled through their Henry County, Georgia, home on Thursday.
The tornado touched down just before 4 p.m. local time outside the community of Locust Grove, which sits southeast of Atlanta.
There, Chaney, his wife and son had a home they moved into only five years ago in 2020, according to the actor.
"I lost my house, I lost everything in it," Chaney said in a tearful video posted on his Instagram page, showing the damage and giving an update on his family's survival. "Thank God I'm still living. I survived a tornado and my son - and he survived… I'm doing a video to let you know right now to cherish life as much as you can."
Chaney noted in a separate Instagram post that he became unconscious during the storm, buried underneath debris from his home. As he regained consciousness, he was unable to find his son, Malachi.
With the help of his neighbors, Chaney said he was able to locate Malachi 300 feet away in the woods behind their home with serious injuries. He was brought to the intensive care unit of a hospital, where he remains as of Friday afternoon, Chaney said on Instagram.
"The worst pain of my entire life as a father watching my Son in this hospital bed in so much pain!" Chaney wrote on Instagram. "Take the house, take the money, take the cars all the material things I just want my Son back in great health like he was."
Tornado Rips Through Georgia Neighborhood, Critically Injuring 18-Year-old
Henry County Police Deputy Chief Jason Bolton told FOX 5 Atlanta that residents did not have much warning ahead of time.
"The first call came in around 3:32 p.m., and that was right about the same time that we received warning from the National Weather Center," Bolton said. "The 18-year-old is in critical condition and has been taken to Grady (Memorial Hospital)."

The National Weather Service issued a rating of Ef-2 for the Henry County tornado. The agency said the tornado had estimated peak winds of 135 mph and a path measuring about 200 yards wide and nearly 2 miles long.

As my sister was graduating high school, our mother is lying on the ground fighting for her life,' Matthews wrote in the description of the GoFundMe campaign. To respect their mother's wishes, her children are using the GoFundMe campaign to raise the money to bury their mom in Philadelphia with her family and other family members. 'Many lives were positively impacted by the love and resilience of our mother,' Matthew wrote in the campaign description. 'Mommy, we love, I'm lost without you, and I pray you give me the guidance you did once on this earth to make you proud. Rest in paradise, my beautiful lady.' At the time of this article, 73 percent of the $35K target has been raised for the burial service.

Death toll in Nigeria floods hits more than 200, officials say
The death toll after deadly floods hit the Nigerian town of Mokwa on Thursday has risen to more than 200, officials say. There are still 500 people missing in the town in north-central Niger State, as a search mission continues. The deputy chairman of Mokwa Local Government, Musa Kimboku, told the BBC that rescue efforts have ceased because authorities no longer believe anyone could still be alive. The floods, said to be worst in the area for 60 years, swept through the towns of Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa after a bout of torrential rain. In an effort to prevent disease in the area, authorities will soon start to dig out corpses buried underground, Mokwa's district head Muhammadu Aliyu said. Recounting scenes of catastrophe, local residents have told the BBC that they saw their homes and family members get washed away. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the National Emergency Management Agency (Nema) announced it had started the process of providing relief packages to people affected. The agency added in a post on Facebook that roads and bridges were also affected by the flood, which has had a knock-on effect on the local economy and traffic. The Nigerian Red Cross also released a statement on Friday saying the floods had caused "significant loss of life and widespread distress". Floods are not uncommon during the Nigerian rainy season, which lasts from April until October. In 2024, Nigeria experienced flooding from heavy rain which caused deaths and drove people from their homes.
