Rising Alt Pop-Punk Rockers The Transits Deliver Electric New Single
Powerhouse New Zealand-South African trio THE TRANSITS drop new single and video 'LIVE TODAY', a fast-paced, power-pop-punk radio anthem brimming with their fast and punchy infectious energy!
An irrepressibly boisterous tune, 'Live Today' hits the spot with its irresistible hook and catchy melody. The local torch bearers of pop-punk, The Transits are carving out an impressive and confident sound, showcasing their skills at crafting memorable and original pop punk tunes, delivered with real fire.
'Live Today' is a high-energy, synth-laced anthem about embracing the moment with everything you've got. Blending hints of pop-punk urgency with shimmering electronic textures, the track captures the rush of acting on instinct, and the clarity that comes when you finally pause to catch your breath.
Says the band: We wanted to write a song that feels like a deep breath and a sprint at the same time. 'Live Today' is about trusting the moment, even if it's messy, even if it's fast. Because sometimes that's where the real living happens.'
The accompanying music video for 'Live Today' brings the song's themes of urgency, risk, and living in the moment to life through the gritty, high-octane world of dirt-track racing. Set deep within the sport's subculture, it captures both the tension and exhilaration of going all-in, echoing the track's emotional pulse with raw, visual energy.

Starring beloved New Zealand comedian and actor Tom Sainsbury, the video takes an unexpected and heartfelt turn. Sainsbury plays an eccentric but endearing racing manager – part mentor, part hype-man, and part emotional coach – whose quirky intensity keeps his star racer focused. Alongside him is actor Kate Simmonds, who delivers a powerful performance as a determined racer out to defy the odds and claim her moment of glory.
Balancing fun with grit, the video stays true to the spirit of The Transits: sincere, humourous, full of heart, and not afraid to lean into bold, offbeat storytelling. With its mix of underground aesthetics, comedy, and underdog energy, the 'Live Today' video is a fast, fun, and unforgettable companion to the track.
As frontman Dom Antelme explains: 'We're massive fans of Tom Sainsbury and his ability to play any character. He's a legend, and we were incredibly stoked he said yes to starring in our video. Shooting this was tons of fun.'
Consisting of now Auckland-based band members Dom Antelme (vocals, bass) and Tyrone Smith (drums), with Ryan Lunn (vocals, guitars, synths, production) still based in Durban, the talented trio find the distance no issue as they effortlessly create their music remotely.
Their compact, hard-hitting songs possessing catchy melodies, classic pop-punk song-writing, searing guitar hooks and intricate production have grabbed media attention and yielded instant success for the trio.
2024 saw the release of their self-titled debut album, with two of the four singles charting in the Top 40 in South Africa, with addictive hit single 'When You Went Away' charting in the Top 10. The band has had glowing features and reviews across major music media in the US, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, capped by a feature in Rolling Stone magazine.
The 2025 journey began with first single and epic video, 'Ghosts Of Summer', followed up by singles 'The Outsiders' and 'Middle Of The Night'. The band plans to unveil more new music building up to the release of their second album later this year.
Although The Transits possess a love of nostalgia, they've left the past firmly behind to create a fresh vibrant sound that will find a way into your head and rattle around in there for days. Good luck getting it out.

With 100% of proceeds going to Youthline NZ, the single aims to raise awareness and support for youth mental health across Aotearoa. ' Version of You ' was born during a transformative holiday workshop led by PLAY! Drama Workshops, a creative space designed to nurture self-expression in young performers. During the workshop, students opened up about themes of self-worth, identity, and mental health before taking a day trip to a local studio to record their vocals. Together with Nyree, the young artists co-created a track that they hope will send positivity and love to their young community. Check out 'Version Of You' right here: 'This song is more than just a melody – it's a message,' says Nyree. 'Working alongside these incredible young performers was so special, it's astonishing to understand the mental struggle so many young people still face today that doesn't necessarily show on the outside. We hope this song reminds every young person listening that they are not alone, that with support things can and will get better.' With soaring vocals and encouraging lyrics, 'Version Of You' captures both the vulnerability and resilience of today's youth. The words are cradled by a beautiful acoustic guitar piece volunteered by renowned Auckland-based guitarist and musical director, Dixon Nacey. This entire collaboration shines a spotlight on the importance of open conversation around mental health – a mission that aligns perfectly with the work of Youthline NZ, who have been supporting young Kiwis through counselling, mentoring, and crisis services for over 50 years. 'We're proud to support Youthline through this project,' adds Nickie Tabukovu, founder of PLAY! Drama Workshops.
