AirTrain fares are getting a huge cut this summer to battle horrible traffic and travel woes
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is slashing AirTrain fares to John F. Kennedy International Airport by 50% in an attempt to reduce summer traffic congestion.
Fares will drop from $8.50 to $4.25 starting June 30 and will last through Labor Day, Sept. 1.

The half-price fare applies at both the Jamaica and Howard Beach Stations, and commuters can pay via OMNY or MetroCard.
Some travelers view the AirTrain as an inconvenient way for them to get to JFK with their luggage, but the reduced fare might make them reconsider — especially as traffic from summer travel picks up.

For the second consecutive year, the Port Authority forecasts that summer passenger volume at JFK will set a new record with 18.3 million expected travelers.
Port Authority Chairman Kevin O'Toole also warned of the 'busy summer construction period' at JFK.
The airport is in the midst of a $19 billion renovation — the largest airport redevelopment project in the U.S., according to The Points Guy.
The half-price fare applies at both the Jamaica and Howard Beach Stations.

The renovation, which is approaching the peak of its construction and roadway work, includes Terminals 1, 4, 6 and 8.
'We are once again asking travelers to leave their cars at home and take public transit to the airport. The discounted AirTrain fare is one of a multitude of steps we're taking to move passengers to and from JFK as quickly and reliably as possible,' O'Toole said.
'Yes, there will be some temporary inconvenience. But it's all part of building an airport our region can be proud of — for decades to come.'

Those who choose to drive are being urged to arrive three hours early and to reserve parking in advance due to limited space.
Additionally, those using services like Uber or Lyft will need to meet their drivers at a remote pick-up lot to 'avoid gridlock.' Free shuttles will run to the relocated lots.

Those still waiting to book summer trips or have friends or family visit South Florida are in luck. The travel site Priceline is posting new summer deals at hotels in the area, beginning July 27 at 9 a.m. The flash sale, online and dubbed 'Florida Flock', lasts until July 29 at 11:59 p.m. Bookings need to be made at that site and during those three days but travel dates can be for whatever you're able to find. Priceline's promotion is open to anyone but it said it is hoping to lure the Gen Z traveler. It found in a 2025 report that group is fond of spontaneous travel and it is 'used to build connections, share experiences and break routines.' Beyond South Florida, Orlando, Tampa, Clearwater Beach and Daytona Beach will also have numerous deals in accommodations during the flash sale. 'Florida Flock' is part of a weekly, summer-long promotion Priceline has dubbed 'Get the Flock Out.' It started July 20 and goes through Labor Day. Every Sunday, a new batch of cities puts up promotions that last for three days. If you're looking to leave Florida, future flash sales will include Puerto Rico, Punta Cana, Napa Valley, Las Vegas and Hawaii. Other summer promotions are out there. EOS Hospitality is offering up to 30% off and a $50 credit on its hotels in the Keys, from Key West to Marathon. They include: Isla Bella Beach Resort, Oceans Edge Resort & Marina, The Perry Hotel & Marina and Havana Cabana Resort. Trips should be booked between now and July 30 for travel now through April 30, 2026. The Opal Collection will offer a flash sale on is luxury hotels between Aug. 4 and Aug. 6. They promise savings of up to 35% for stays through Dec. 31. They have properties in Delray Beach, Key Largo and Key West. Meanwhile one big-name hotel brand is showing appreciation for teachers. If you're an educator, you can obtain discounts at the Hilton Cabana Miami Beach Resort, Embassy Suites by Hilton Deerfield Beach Resort & Spa and Embassy Suites by Hilton Fort Lauderdale 17th Street for stays before Sep. 1; the Embassy Suites by Hilton Miami International Airport for stays before Aug 30 and the B Ocean Resort Fort Lauderdale for visits before Sep 20.

Port Authority Bus Terminal crash injures more than 2 dozen in Manhattan, FDNY says
Dozens of people were hurt in a bus crash Thursday morning at Port Authority Bus Terminal on Manhattan's West Side in New York City. The crash happened at around 8:50 a.m. at 41st Street and Dyer Avenue. The FDNY said at least 29 people suffered minor injuries. At this point, it's unclear how many buses were involved or what caused the crash. Port Authority Bus Terminal stretches from 40th to 42nd streets on Eighth and Ninth avenues. It's the largest bus station in the country and busiest in the world, according to Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Check back soon for the latest updates on this developing story.

Wildfires, EEE, rainy weekends. What happened to summer?
I pull it off, inspect it, Google it, and learn it's a 'seed tick' in its larval stage of life. I flick it outside, and we decide to spend the rest of the day inside. It's hot out there anyhow! And if it's not hot, it's weirdly cold, or humid or raining for But we need that jerk. Maybe it's that steady march of time wearing down our mortal vessels, or maybe it's environmental calamities or the scheduling of endless activities, but summer does feel like it's picking up speed. My family is still in the toddler phase, meaning we're not yet into pre-professional athletics. But even without sports camps or travel teams, we're booked until mid-August. Our calendar looks like a battle map, packed with blue arrows and red boxes and orange troop formations. Notes about in-law arrival and departure times, a number for that company I need to call about that thing. A far cry from the summers of my youth, when the same months were a carefree canvas to fill with bike riding, video gaming, and landscaping. OK maybe not that carefree, but one thing we definitely didn't worry about: Advertisement Or Advertisement At least there's the beach! After we slather on sunscreen and bug repellant and strap on the oxygen mask, we can swim! You already know: more than cyanobacteri-ers? We're fed constant updates on wars and tariffs and the on-again-off-again romance between Truth Social Guy and X-Man. Every summer, we're back here, though, bemoaning the brevity. This was our summer! This was me time! I entered June like a tornado, ripping through house projects to get stuff finished before we welcomed baby number three. Then we had the baby on June 30th, and we have been forced to move at the speed of a newborn. Slowing down has made me realize we need that jerk reminding us that the end is near — the end of the summer anyway. If you're scared to miss something, it makes you appreciate it that much more. If we were all immortal or lived in Florida, who would care that Labor Day had come and gone? New Englanders know the season is fleeting. We feel November in the chill of the freezer aisle, and think of icy January when we're fixing that crack in the foundation. That's why it feels short: because we want summer to last. It helps to focus on what you can control. I can control this: When my kid believes with his entire heart that the Blue Line is the fastest of all the lines, we drive to the Wood Island stop and take the train to Wonderland station (whose name makes it the biggest let down for a child in all of Massachusetts) then walk to Revere Beach.
