NEW DELHI: As India head into the final day of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, all eyes are not just on the batters but also on the skies. India vs England rain, weather forecast: Can Shubman Gill-KL Rahul pull off stunning draw?
The forecast predicts an 80% chance of rain in the morning session, dropping slightly to 70% in the afternoon. Encouragingly for England but worryingly for India, the likelihood of rain further reduces to 50% by tea and 30% by stumps, raising the chances of enough overs being bowled to force a result.
For India, who resumed their second innings at 174/2 with KL Rahul (87*) and captain
Shubman Gill
(78*) still unbeaten, rain could be both a saviour and a spoiler. Prolonged showers might wipe out entire sessions and aid India's bid for a draw.
However, intermittent rain breaks — the more likely scenario — could break the batters' rhythm and create stop-start conditions that assist England's pace attack with a relatively fresh second new ball due in 17 overs.

On Day 4, Gill and Rahul stitched together a gritty 174-run partnership after India were reduced to 0/2 in the first over, countering a 311-run first-innings deficit. Their effort gave India a glimmer of hope in a match that seemed lost.
Still trailing in the five-match series 1-2, India will need either divine help from the clouds or another monumental batting effort to avoid a defeat that would hand England the series.

In Danapur, areas such as Bibiganj Road, Gola Par, Sainik Colony, Gola Road, Judges Colony, Sultanpur, Chitrakoot Nagar, Bank Colony, Adarsh Nagar, Ram Jaipal Nagar and Panchsheel Nagar are waterlogged. The entire campus of Danapur Dhaneshwari Devnandan Girls Higher Secondary School has turned into a lake, disrupting classes as water has entered the classrooms. Rainwater has also entered the Bibiganj police post, where stationed officers were seen removing the water. Several areas, including the Bari Machhua Toli and Lalkothi under the Cantonment Board, have been submerged in rain and drain water. The neighbourhoods in all wards are in a miserable state. "Only one big motor pumping set has been installed by Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (Buidco) near Gola Road crossing to pump out water from the colonies located on both sides of Nehru Path from Rupaspur Nahar to Saguna Mor," he said. Sharma added that every year they used to get three to four motor pumps for pumping out water, but this year only one pump has been installed. "The officials have left the Danapur residents to live in a vulnerable condition. Ward councillors are also helpless," he said. Humid city gets sharp evening shower, rain may remain scanty
Kolkata: The city experienced another humid day with scattered morning rain and a sharp spell of evening shower, even as the maximum temperature reached 31.6°C, a degree less than Saturday's maximum. With the monsoon trough having slipped up north, rain will remain scanty and sporadic over the next few days, said the Met office. North Bengal, however, could receive heavy rain over the next 48 hours. Kolkata recorded 9.6 mm of rain following a month of heavy rain in July, which turned out to be the wettest in 10 years. Even though the city remained largely dry over the last three days, intermittent showers will continue, said the Met office. "We will continue to have localised rain. The monsoon has shifted slightly northwards, which will lead to more frequent and heavier showers across north Bengal. Kolkata and south Bengal could remain relatively dry for a few days," said Regional Meteorological Centre weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay. A bulletin issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre on Sunday said: "The upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bihar and neighbourhood lay over northwest Bihar and adjoining northeast Uttar Pradesh and extended up to 4.5 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What does it take to be an air traffic controller in Singapore? 'Injection Liya?' Shubman Gill's Desperate Query To India Pacer Caught On Stump Mic
India captain Shubman Gill was heard asking pacer Akash Deep if he had taken an injection to ease his pain in a desperate attempt on Day 4 of the fifth Test match at The Oval on Sunday. Akash Deep suffered another injury when he was struck on shin by a shot from Harry Brook. Gill continued to depend on his pace attack - especially Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna - with Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja providing very little threat. Gill wanted to bring Akash Deep into the attack and he was heard on stump-mic saying 'Injection liya kya tum? (Have you taken an injection)". Harry Brook's counter attacking hundred and Joe Root 's sublime unbeaten 98 put England on course for a series winning record 374-run chase against India at tea on day four of the final Test on Sunday. — The Game Changer (@TheGame_26) August 3, 2025 An epic 195-run stand off 211 balls between Brook and Root took the wind out India's sails as England coasted to 317 for four at tea, needing another 57 runs for the series sealing victory. It was the second hundred of the series for Brook (111 off 98), who displayed special ball striking abilities under extreme pressure. He made most of a life given on on 19 when Mohammed Siraj stumbled to the boundary ropes after taking his catch off Prasidh Krishna. The three Indian pacers could not much out of the pitch with a softer ball and the two spinners Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja too proved ineffective although to be fair to them they weren't given lengthy spells. The new ball is still 14 overs away and the game would be as good as over by then if England continue marching towards their goal.
