Romanian EBT theft suspect appears in Superior Court
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The latest Romanian linked to skimming theft appeared in court Tuesday.
Bogdan Boceanu could be the fifth Romanian directly tied to this possible international crime ring operating in Kern County. The 23-year-old was arrested Saturday, March 1, with 36 cloned EBT cards and over $4,000 in stolen cash.
He was in court Tuesday and was denied bail under a law that prohibits suspected illegal funds from being used for bail. Per our investigation, this is the first time a Romanian, linked with this specific EBT theft investigation, is not allowed to post bail.
This is not the first time Boceanu is alleged to have done this.

In July of 2024, he was arrested in Wasco with a skimming device, a skimmer video camera and a memory SD card used to store information.
The District Attorney didn't file that case until January of 2025, and Boceanu was arraigned on both cases Tuesday.
Boceanu is scheduled to be back in court Thursday, March 6th.

( — On its ninth day, the murder trial of Daniel Serafini is uncovering deep-rooted tensions and long-standing disputes within his family. The prosecution says dysfunction, accusations, and financial strife all culminated in the 2021 fatal shooting of his father-in-law, Robert Spohr, and the critical injury of his mother-in-law, Wendy Wood. During Tuesday's proceedings at Placer County Superior Court, jurors were presented with pages of emails exchanged between family members in the years and months leading up to the shooting. The prosecutor argues that these messages support his theory: that Daniel was motivated by family tension and financial strain. The emails revealed intense arguments over vacation plans in Hawaii, business arrangements, and claims that Serafini and his wife, Erin, owed Wendy and Robert roughly $1.3 million. The tone of the emails ranged from bitter to explosive-laced with insults, profanity, and emotional outbursts. In one exchange, Wendy accused Daniel of being 'vicious and belligerent.' Daniel fired back, saying that if Robert continued to insult him, he would 'Knock him the (expletive) out.'. Erin, Serafini's wife, expressed to her mother in one email that the family disputes had grown so severe, she was seeking a therapist to present the emails to and have them weigh in on whether it was safe to continue allowing her son to spend time with his grandparents. These email exchanges were mostly dated from 2016 to 2021 and show how tensions escalated in the months leading up to the shooting in the couple's Lake Tahoe area home. Justin Infante, a Placer County District Attorney Investigator, also testified about sexually explicit messages between Serafini and Samantha Scott, his alleged accomplice, sent in the years following the shooting. Some of the text messages referenced the use of molly (MDMA), cocaine and Adderall when the two planned to meet up or go on dates. In addition, the court reviewed cell phone activity logs. They showed that Serafini regularly sent numerous messages in the 30 days prior to, and 30 days after the shooting, sometimes more than 100. However, the day of the shooting, June 5, 2021, is what stood out. On that date, records show Serafini had sent zero messages. His phone also registered no steps or physical movement, raising questions about his whereabouts and activities during the time of the murder. The trial is set to resume on Thursday at 8:30 am. Man charged in connection to deadly March crash
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A man has been charged in connection with a deadly crash that happened back on March 8. On Wednesday, Tony E. Epps, Jr. was charged with murder in the second degree, unintentional but reckless, and driving while suspended, according to Sedgwick County District Court documents. According to the police, on March 8, they responded to a crash involving two men at the intersection of Maple and Osage. One of the men, identified as Rockney G. Lindemann, died at the scene. The other, identified as Epps, was injured. Epps' next appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. on June 16. His bail was set at $25,000. Epps posted bail and was released from custody. K-9 in Clayton County serves safer with donated protective vest
A hard-working K-9 is serving the community safer with a donation. Clayton County police said K-9 Niko got a bullet- and stab-protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] His vest was embroidered with the message 'In memory of Sabu.' K-9 Niko has assisted with a little more than 100 arrests in the four to five years he's served Clayton County PD. Before coming to Clayton County, Niko served at a sheriff's department in Florida. Vested Interest in K9s, a nonprofit, has given more than 6,074 vests to K-9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million. These donations are made possible by private and corporate donations. The nonprofit says the program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and working and certified with law enforcement or related agencies.
