Reflecting on those formative years, Rubina shared how criticism about her appearance on set pushed her to take extreme measures.
'Toh yeh set par aapka pehla show hai aur chilla kar aapko, aapke look ke liye literally pratadat kiya jaata hai. It stains your memory,' she recalled. 'To an extent that I went on boiled spinach soup and Nutris for one complete year. And I pledged to myself—I'm going to get to size zero.'
While she did achieve her goal, the toll it took on her health and spirit was far greater than she expected. 'But I looked so sick and pale. My energies were so down. That phase, when I look back, I think—what was I even thinking?'
Rubina admitted she wished someone had taught her to embrace herself the way she was.
'I was 19 or 20 when I entered the industry. I came from the mountains—ghee, doodh, dahi kha kar. I was a fresh-faced, round-cheeked kid. And when I see my first show now, I see that natural glow.'
In contrast, her transformation for the second show left her physically thin but emotionally hollow. 'Those cheekbones, that snatched waist… it didn't have the glow. And slowly, I started believing that maybe this is beauty.'
She added, 'That psychology started attracting people and situations that validated my inner fears. I allowed that mindset to shape how I saw myself.'
Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the silent damage perfectionism can cause—and the healing power of self-acceptance.

Rubina Dilaik talks about marriage, conflict, and fun
Popular television star Rubina Dilaik is all set to share screen space with her husband Abhinav Shukla in the much-anticipated reality show Pati Patni Aur Panga. Known for her candid nature, Rubina opened up about the nuances of her relationship and why they chose to take part in the show post-parenthood. In a candid interaction, Rubina was asked whether she believes in discussing everything with her partner. 'Avoid is a strong word, and I've never done that,' she said. 'Avoiding is a no-no, but discussing absolutely everything is also not wise in a relationship. Sometimes it's better to leave certain things as they are after understanding them.' Touching on how they handle disagreements, Rubina said she and Abhinav have learned to 'pick their battles.' She elaborated, 'Ignoring is not the way. Some fights need to be resolved thoughtfully, while others are too trivial to give importance to.' Abhinav echoed the sentiment and added, 'Some issues can be solved in a few hours, some in a few days, and some take more time. We decide how much energy a problem deserves depending on its nature.' He jokingly added, 'In our case, like I always say—'Whatever you say, baby.' That line has now become famous.' The couple, who welcomed twin daughters Jeeva and Edhaa on November 27, 2024, revealed that parenting played a role in their decision to join the show. 'Ever since becoming a mother, I wanted to spend more time with my husband. I wanted to have some fun, so I took up this show,' Rubina shared. Hosted by Sonali Bendre and Munawar Faruqui, Pati Patni Aur Panga also features Gurmeet Choudhary–Debina Bonnerjee, Avika Gor–Milind Chandwani, Sudesh Lehri–Mamta Lehri, Geeta Phogat–Pawan Kumar, and Swara Bhasker–Fahad Ahmed.

Rubina Dilaik Reveals Why Many Marriages Don't Survive Parenthood: 'Sabse Zyada Divorces…'
Last Updated: Rubina Dilaik, now a mother of twins, discussed how childbirth can stress marriages, often leading to divorce. She and husband Abhinav Shukla will appear on Pati Patni Aur Panga. Rubina Dilaik, who recently embraced motherhood by welcoming twin girls, didn't shy away from discussing the realities that follow childbirth — especially the toll it can take on a marriage. Statistically speaking, the actor revealed why many couples head for divorce after welcoming children. For the unversed, she, along with husband Abhinav Shukla, will be a part of a new reality show titled Pati Patni Aur Panga—Jodiyon Ka Reality Check. In a candid moment during a recent conversation, Rubina Dilaik opened up about how parenting can deeply impact a couple's relationship. She referenced studies that indicate the highest number of divorces occur post-childbirth, attributing this trend to the immense physical, emotional, and mental stress new parents go through. 'Sabse zyada divorces baccha paida honey ke baad hote hain because the couple goes through a lot of stress. Not just physical or emotional but mental stress as well. Jo couples survive kar gaya uss phase ko, they have a great relationship. This is a proper study ke maximum divorces baccha honey ke baad hota hain (Most divorces happen after a child is born because the couple goes through a lot of stress—not just physical or emotional, but mental stress as well. Couples who manage to survive that phase usually have a strong relationship. There's an actual study that shows the majority of divorces occur after having a child)." During their stint on Bigg Boss 14, the Choti Bahu actor broke down on national television while making the big confession. She had also revealed that the couple was to take a final decision about their marriage after the show got over. The actor had also thanked Bigg Boss for giving their marriage another chance. Later, in an exclusive interview with The Times of India, Rubina shared, 'The kind of challenges we faced together in the show has made our relationship stronger. In the outside world, you have choices and you can escape, but when you are locked up in a house, you have no choice except to either fight or take flight. We chose to face the challenges head-on and win it for ourselves, and that in turn made us—our relationship and our bond—stronger." She further added, 'Having your life partner with you on a show like this definitely provides emotional support. But to be honest, having your personal life exposed on a public forum is like walking on eggshells. It was a mental and emotional challenge to balance things. Only couples can understand it." As for the latest update, both Rubina and Abhinav are going strong in their marriage. They became parents to twin girls, Jeeva and Edhaa, on November 27, 2023. view comments First Published: August 01, 2025, 18:08 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
