
IIT-K lays foundation stone for KSS bldg
The ceremony was officiated by director, IIT-K Professor Manindra Agrawal, and attended by deputy director prof Braj Bhushan, dean KSS professor Sachchida Nand Tripathi, senior officials from Kotak Mahindra Bank; deans and several faculty members of the institute and members of the KSS Advisory Council.

The KSS building is envisioned as a LEED Platinum-certified and Net Zero Energy facility that integrates sustainable design, energy-efficient systems, and eco-sensitive construction practices. The building will be constructed using innovative green materials such as bamboo, hempcrete, engineered wood, mycelium-based materials, and recycled components and will serve as a hub for sustainability research and action.
Prof Manindra Agrawal said, "Today we laid the foundation stone for the building that will be a LEED Platinum, energy-efficient, green building, and I am confident that this building will accelerate our capacity to deliver high-impact translational research in sustainability."
Dean of the Kotak School of Sustainability, stated, "This space will allow us to convene experts, students, and stakeholders under one roof, pushing the boundaries of what sustainability science and innovation can achieve for India and the world."
Launched in Dec 2023, the KSS at IIT-K was established with financial support from Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited as part of its CSR initiative.

Scholar from Bastar represents state at US solar conference
Raipur: Bastar's Saurabh Motiwala, a renewable energy professional and a PhD research scholar at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, represented Chhattisgarh at the 'SOLAR 2025' conference in the USA. The 54th annual national solar conference of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) was held at the University of Colorado Boulder on August 4-6. Motiwala's PhD research focuses on the "Techno-economic Evaluation of Utility-scale Solar PV + BESS Project in Gujarat." His work develops technical, economic, and policy frameworks for integrating large-scale solar energy and battery storage. Experts at the conference praised his research, calling it relevant for both Chhattisgarh and other developing regions, he said. He also shared his experience of organising Chhattisgarh's first certified 'green wedding' and building the state's 5-star rated green home at the event. His other achievements include leading awareness campaigns on green energy and sustainable development through workshops and training programmes. The 'SOLAR 2025' conference brought together scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss renewable energy technologies and policy. Former CJI urges reasearch and innovation to boost India's global ranking
Former Chief Justice of India (CJI), N.V. Ramana, called upon the engineering graduates to focus on research and innovation to help India secure a top position in the Global Innovation Index (GII). Addressing the 37th graduation day of R.V.R. & J.C. College of Engineering, Chandramoulinagar-Chowdavaram, on Saturday, he expressed concern that only 10 per cent of India's 1.5 million engineering graduates secure jobs annually, with the IIT placement rates also declining. Mr. Ramana stressed the importance of both mother tongue and English proficiency, and praised the college for blending quality education with cultural traditions. Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman K. Madhu Murthy urged the students to convert challenges into opportunities under the 'Vision Andhra 2047' framework. A total of 1,023 and 153 postgraduate degrees were conferred, along with gold medals to top performers. College president Rayapati Srinivas presided over the event, attended by faculty, students, and other dignitaries.

GATE 2026 Exam Pattern, Syllabus: IIT Guwahati announces new sectional-paper
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has released the syllabus for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. The exam is scheduled to be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. Registration will open on August 25, through the official website – GATE 2026 Registration: IIT-Guwahati to conduct exam; check important dates GATE 2026 will serve as the gateway for admissions into MTech, MS, and PhD programmes offered by IITs, National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). In addition, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) will consider GATE scores for recruitment purposes. This year, the exam will feature 30 test papers, including both full and sectional papers. A new 'Energy Science' section has been added to the Engineering Sciences paper. Candidates can appear for either one or two test papers, but only from approved two-paper combinations, the details of which will be shared on the official website in due course. The test will be conducted in English. Each paper will carry a total of 100 marks, with General Aptitude (GA) accounting for 15 marks, and the remaining 85 marks dedicated to the subject-specific syllabus. For the XE paper, Engineering Mathematics (15 marks) is compulsory, along with two optional sections worth 35 marks each. For the XH paper, Reasoning and Comprehension (25 marks) is mandatory, along with one optional section worth 60 marks. For the XL paper, Chemistry (25 marks) is compulsory, along with two optional sections worth 30 marks each. Detailed subject-specific information is available on the GATE 2026 portal. Candidates are required to know their paper codes, as they will be required during both application and examination. As per the notification, each applicant should submit only one application; those opting for a second paper must add it to their original form. Multiple applications will result in cancellation of all but one, with no refund of fees. As per the marking scheme, each correct answer will be worth one or two marks depending on the question type. For incorrect answers, one-third of a mark will be deducted for each one-mark question, and two-thirds of a mark for each two-mark question.
