It's the year of celebrity breakups - all the shock star splits of 2025, so far

News of Patrick Kielty and Cat Deeley's split took showbiz fans by surprise this week.
The Late Late Show host and his British presenter wife announced on Tuesday that their marriage was over after 13 years.
Paddy, 54 and Cat, 48, were television's power couple and were thought to be happily married with two young sons.
However, they said in a joint statement on Tuesday: 'We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.'
Their love story was particularly sweet as they met as friends and colleagues on TV show Fame Academy in 2002 first, before they got married a decade later. Love blossomed when Patrick crossed continents to make it to a birthday lunch for Cat in LA.
Their unexpected break-up is the latest in a line of celebrity separations and divorces in 2025. Celeb fans are calling 2025 the year of shock star splits, as there have been so many of them. Jessica Alba and Cash Warren
Jessica Alba split from her husband of 16 years, film producer Cash Warren in January. The Fantastic Four actress shared the news on Instagram, saying she had been on a 'journey of self-realisation' and that 'It's time for us to embark on a new chapter of growth and evolution as individuals'. They had been together for 20 years and have three children. Also in January, Jessica Simpson broke up with husband Eric Johnson after a decade of marriage. The singer, 44, and NFL player, 45, have two daughters and a son and said although it was a 'painful situation' they are focusing on their children. Thalia Heffernan and Angus Scott-Young
Another New Year break-up was Irish model Thalia Heffernan and her rugby player boyfriend, Angus Scott-Young. Thalia, 29, met the Australian sports star, 27, through a dating app in the summer of 2024.
The pair shared their relationship all over social media, with posts of them posing together in various places. However, with Angus playing in London for Northampton Saints, it seems the long-distance relationship was tricky. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom
Star couple Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom recently called it quits after nine years together. They broke up earlier this year, but only confirmed the news last month. Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry (Image: orlandobloom/Instagram)
The pair met in 2016, had daughter Daisy Dove in 2020 and were engaged for three years. However, there was much speculation about the state of their relationship, with talk of how they were no longer on the same page.
Pop singer Perry did not attend the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, though superstar British actor Bloom was a guest.
They released a statement saying: 'Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is – and always will be – raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.'
Bloom since posted cryptic quotes from psychologist Carl Jung on Instagram, reading: 'Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.'
This week, it was reported Perry was seen out on a date with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
Smile singer Lily Allen, 40 and husband, Stranger Things actor David Harbour, 50, split dramatically this summer after four years of marriage. The colourful couple married in Las Vegas in a 2020 ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator. Lily Allen and David Harbour (Image: Internet Unknown)
Allen's daughters - teens Marnie and Ethel, who she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper - were also in attendance and the couple seemed to be madly in love. However, romance turned sour for the two, who were said to have been living separate lives before the split. Allegations of infidelity on the part of Harbour made the break-up acrimonious.
Rumours suggested Harbour was cheating on Allen, using the celeb dating app Raya. While not addressing the end of the relationship on her podcast Miss Me, Allen has referenced it, hitting out at the unfairness of how men prefer younger women. David Harbour is now dating model Ellie Fallon, who at 27, is 23 years his junior. Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan
Sabrina Carpenter, 26, and Barry Keoghan, 32, confirmed they were over as we went into 2025. The two stars had appeared as love's young dream when they got together in 2023.
They walked the red carpet together at the Met Gala in eye-catching outfits and appeared at glamorous events like the Grammy's after-party and Oscar parties. Saltburn star Keoghan even appeared in his American girlfriend's video for her song, Please Please Please. Their split made headlines all this year as pop singer Sabrina suggested some of her new tracks were about her relationship with the Dublin actor. When Carpenter released her single Manchild on June 8, she posted the cheeky caption: 'This one's about you!' However the song's cutting lyrics were a hard kick to her ex. Maura Higgins and Pete Wicks
Reality TV stars Maura Higgins and Pete Wicks were together for more than six months - having known each other for six years - before their messy split.
Pete said of Maura: 'We've known each other for a long time. We have the same sense of humour, she's super intelligent. She's incredibly witty. We have always been there for each other at a distance." Maura Higgins and Pete Wicks
But it ended in allegations of infidelity. Longford Love Island star Maura, 34, reportedly dumped Strictly star Pete, 37, after becoming suspicious of him. She found lots of messages on his phone from other women and felt she couldn't trust him.
On Valentine's Day this year, she was seen leaving a restaurant alone and when asked by a fan where Pete was, she was filmed replying: 'I don't know, probably cheating.'
Paddy and Cat join a list of shock Irish celeb splits over the years.
Others include Boyzone star Ronan Keating and model wife Yvonne Connolly, who split in 2010 after a 14-year marriage. The showbiz couple had tried to rescue their relationship after an alleged affair between Ronan and a dancer, but ended up separating.
Ronan since married wife Storm and Yvonne is with film producer John Conroy.
The Saturdays star Una Healy married rugby player Ben Foden in 2012, but they split in 2018. They share a son and daughter.
Irish model Glenda Gilson and rugby star Brian O'Driscoll were the power couple of the Celtic Tiger for four years until they broke up in 2005. Brian went on to marry Actress Amy Huberman and Glenda wed businessman Rob McNaughton.
Presenter Laura Whitmore and musician Danny O'Reilly were the Irish rock couple of 2010 before they split in 2012. Laura said: 'We broke up for a reason - it's no one else's business.' Laura is now married to presenter Iain Stirling and Danny's girlfriend is model Vanessa O'Connell.
Blizzards' star Bressie and his one-time girlfriend Roz Purcell were in a relationship for four years before they broke up in 2016. They have both moved on to new relationships and have remained friends.
Ryan Tubridy's romance with scientist Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain was very high-profile when they got together in 2009. But they parted ways in 2014.
Ryan, 52, has just announced his engagement to psychologist Claire Kambamettu, 41; while Aoibheann has three children with husband Carlos Diaz.

RTÉ bosses nervous that Late Late presenter's split with wife might endanger deal

RTÉ bosses are hopeful that 'homebird' Patrick Kielty will renew his Late Late Show contract when it expires next year. The news comes as the popular host and his wife Cat Deeley announced their separation this week, after 13 years of marriage. Kielty has become a viewers' favourite as well as highly popular figure in RTÉ since taking over from Ryan Tubridy two years ago. The Dundrum, Co. Down man will be back on our screens for a new Late Late season next month. The Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty. Pic: Andres Poveda He has not given any indication if he will extend his three-year contract when it expires next year. Dublin-to-Belfast train commuters can often spot Kielty on a Wednesday or Thursday evening going home to the house he bought 25 years ago in Dundrum. An RTÉ source told this week: 'Usually he's [in Dublin] three nights. He goes back up home – I think people were surprised by that initially but that's what suits him. 'He's a homebird.' He is still deeply rooted in his community and regularly drops into his local, the Dundrum Inn. Patrick Kielty and Cat Deeley. Pic: Stuart C. Wilson/Getty Images His two boys play GAA with the local team during the summer and were visitors to their granny Mary all year round, according to locals. Mary Kielty died in March of this year, but Deeley and the couple's children did not attend the funeral, raising eyebrows. The couple, their children and Deeley's parents spent last Christmas in his Dundrum house. Asked if it was hoped Kielty would renew his contract, a senior source in RTÉ told the broadcaster does not 'comment on individual contracts', but noted that staff are 'very much looking forward to him returning for The Late Late in September'. 'What happens in his personal life is his personal business,' the source added. RTÉ could not comment on whether or not it believed Kielty would be renewing his contract when it expires next year. A station source said: 'I'm sure people would be hoping he would stay on,' but they stressed: 'Who knows what his plans are? It's a good bit off.' Another RTÉ source described the presenter as 'a gent'. 'He's really easy company. He has a nice vibe about him. He's very relaxed. It's infectious in a good way. It sets a nice tone, I think.' Kielty's contract earns him €250,000 a year. The Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty. Pic: Andres Poveda This is dwarfed by the reported £600,000 (€688,645) per year Deeley is paid to host the hit ITV show, This Morning. Her current contract will keep her on the show's sofa until Spring 2026. But Deeley's side venture with her long-time friend Amanda Grossman, has been less lucrative and has recorded significant losses in the past two years. She co-owns a perfume company called Canyon International Limited, a vehicle for their brand E11even. The brand's website describes it as 'a luxury unisex fragrance oil that has a completely unique effect on the wearer and those around them'. The company was £62,605 (€71,844) in the red as of the end of March 2024, according to records. That was down on the previous year's deficit of £76,487 (€87,7656). Kielty's company Boxed Productions Limited, based in Co. Down, had healthy shareholder funds of £1,375,544 (€1,578,773) as of the end of March last year. He is the sole director of Boxed – listed as a 'performing arts' company – which is also the 100% shareholder of his Irish-registered company Pamanco Ireland Limited, of which Kielty is listed as co-director along with Co. Mayo businessman Pat Walsh. Pamanco, set up two days after Kielty was confirmed as Late Late host in May 2023, had net assets of €151,714 as of the end of July 2024, against a turnover of €286,656. Kielty and Deeley spent around €5.7m on their London home in 2023, and they have reportedly spent around the same figure renovating it. Their combined net worth has been variously estimated at between €13m and €26m. In a joint statement released earlier this week, the couple said they 'have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated'. 'There is no other party involved. 'We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected.'

Patrick Kielty in line for new Late Late contract following Cat Deeley split

Late Late Show star Patrick Kielty wants to host the smash hit chat show long-term despite the break-up of his marriage to Cat Deeley. RTE executives are fully supportive of him and prepared to offer the chatterbox comedian a lucrative new deal when his current €250,000 a year contract expires next May, we can reveal. Friends of the couple are adamant that Kielty, 54, working in Ireland had nothing to do with the marriage split and Paddy and Cat, 48, had effectively been living apart in the same house for over a year. One source said: 'He was spending on average two nights a week in Ireland. He would usually fly in on Thursday and do the show live on Friday nights, 30 times a year. 'He would then drive up north and do his BBC Five Live radio show on Saturday mornings from the Belfast studios and fly back to London afterwards. 'He still saw plenty of his wife and the two sons. Patrick Kielty and Cat Deeley (Image: Getty Images) 'The problem was the personal relationship between them just seemed to break down for whatever reasons. They are both strong personalities who speak their mind. Neither was seeing anyone else, there was definitely no third party involved.' Paddy has now done two seasons of the Late Late Show since the departure of Ryan Tubridy. RTE said he has been a roaring success and has completely stabilized and grown the ratings, which fluctuate between 400,000 to 500,000 a week now between the live audience and the RTE Player. But crucially for the national broadcaster, advertisers and sponsors have come running back to its flagship No 1 show. One RTE insider said: 'Paddy Kielty has been like a breath of fresh air here. 'He has come in with his own ideas and transformed and improved the Late Late Show, making it relevant again. 'He has also improved the calibre of guests and he has no problem getting on the phone and persuading some top stars to come to Dublin. 'Absolutely no-one on the show knew he was having marital difficulties because he kept it to himself. Kielty took over hosting the Late Late Show from Ryan Tubridy in September 2023 (Image: PA) 'When he comes to Dublin he is strictly business, extremely professional and doesn't talk about his personal life. 'He hardly ever mentioned his wife during his two years here and she never came to Ireland to watch his show which is in itself very strange. 'All the Late Late team have great time for him because he is a very humble down to earth fella. 'Everyone is devastated that his marriage is over but in the high-stakes, highly-pressurised showbiz world, these things happen.' Kielty has made it clear he really enjoys being back in Ireland and presenting The Late Late Show. He has told friends he would like to renew his contract at the end of his three-year term and keep presenting the show – and top executives in RTE let him know privately they want to keep him. RTE sources said any talks on a new deal haven't started yet but they expect it to get sorted over the coming year. Kielty and Cat would have been married 13 years this September. Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty in happier times (Image: hoto by) They lived in a mansion in Beverly Hills for several years after they tied the knot in Rome in 2012 while she presented the popular American show So You Think You Can Dance. They and their two sons Milo, 9, and James, 7, returned to London in 2020. Cat resurrected her TV career in the UK when she took over as co- presenter on the This Morning daytime show on ITV and Virgin Media along with Ben Shephard in March last year following the controversial departure of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. The €600,000 a year job meant she was up at 5am and into the studio from Monday to Thursday every week. No one suspected their marriage was on the rocks. However, when Paddy's mother Mary died in March, eyebrows were raised when Cat and the children didn't show up for the funeral in his home village of Dundrum, Co Down. His sons adored their Irish granny and spent their summers with her, with the elder lad playing Gaelic football. Benett) The Late Late broadcaster is a very committed father and family man and will continue to live in London to be near his kids. The RTE source added: 'He will be back here in September when we go back on air and he will fly in and out from London doing his thing. 'Knowing Paddy he will give the show 110% and he won't let this personal setback hamper his career. 'You can expect the new season of the Late Late to be bigger and better than ever.'
