The prank came just hours after Attorney General Pam Bondi suggested that additional Epstein-related documents could be released. Given the sensitive nature of the topic, many social media users criticized the GOP-led committee for making light of a serious issue involving high-profile figures and alleged crimes.
Rickrolling is an internet meme that originated in 2007, where users are tricked into clicking a link they believe is relevant, only to be redirected to the Never Gonna Give You Up music video. The meme, which started on 4chan, is a variation of an earlier prank known as 'Duckrolling,' where users were misled into clicking a link leading to an image of a duck on wheels.
Users on X quickly expressed outrage, calling the move 'insensitive' and 'unprofessional.''This isn't funny. It's disgraceful,' one user wrote. 'There are real victims involved.'Another added, 'A Rickroll? On something as serious as this? Delete this immediately.'
Earlier in the day, conservative influencers were seen posing at the White House with binders labeled Epstein Files: Phase 1. However, Trump ally Laura Loomer later claimed that the binders contained no actual files and were merely a photo opportunity.
The incident has fueled concerns over transparency regarding the Epstein case, with critics arguing that any legitimate files should be publicly accessible rather than selectively distributed.

KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has lauded the role of Pakistan's journalist community during the recent Pakistan-India conflict, describing them as a national asset. Addressing a ceremony at the Sindh Chief Minister's House marking the 75th anniversary of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), he commended the organisation's long and distinguished struggle for safeguarding freedom of expression and strengthening democracy during periods of authoritarian rule. He recalled a moment during the ARD-led struggle, saying: 'I remember the time when the then-dictator, in his final days in power, began imposing restrictions—even on television channels—and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto stood firmly with you (journalists), side by side.' While appreciating the role of Pakistani journalists during the recent Pakistan-India conflict, he said, 'I want to thank all of you for the way Pakistan's media and journalists countered India's false and disinformation-driven narrative on the global stage—it is truly commendable.' He added, 'I can proudly say that just as Pakistan's Air Force defeated India with a score of 6-0, our journalist community similarly outclassed the Indian media.' Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that prior to the war with India, there were restrictions on digital media, but the conflict made it clear that these platforms are, in fact, national assets. 'We are thankful that the government lifted those restrictions during the war, and to my knowledge, they have not been re-imposed since,' he said. He paid special tribute to Pakistan's Generation Z for their remarkable performance on the digital front during the war against India. Expressing hope, he said the federal government should take note of the journalist community's vital role and reconsider certain policies in recognition of their efforts. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari instructed Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon to continue arranging visits for journalists from other provinces to Sindh, so that accurate information regarding the development initiatives of the PPP's people-centric government could reach the wider public across the country. He pointed out that the Government of Sindh has introduced revolutionary measures in various public service sectors, including healthcare. He further highlighted that the project for the reconstruction of 2.1 million houses for the 2022 flood-affected population is the largest of its kind in the world. While speaking about Balochistan, he said that the province's issues and challenges are historical in nature and can only be resolved through substantial investment and dedicated efforts. He urged Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif to pay special attention and take concrete steps to accelerate the development process in Balochistan. He also called upon the journalist community to visit Balochistan and witness firsthand the challenges faced by the provincial government. Furthermore, he appreciated the Balochistan government's scholarship program for students under the leadership of Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti. Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugtti, and other dignitaries also addressed the ceremony. Democracy, basic freedoms ‘under siege': opposition APC
ISLAMABAD: In a fiery show of unity, a defiant mix of opposition bigwigs, legal hawks, and press watchdogs tore into the country's shaky 'hybrid regime' on Friday, blasting what they called a full-throttle assault on democracy and basic freedoms. The two-day All Parties Conference (APC), held under the banner of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP), wrapped up with a blistering declaration torching the ruling regime and its powerful 'handlers' for ramping up political crackdowns, targeting dissenters, and gutting the country's constitutional rights. At a no-holds-barred press conference flanked by fellow opposition heavyweights, TTAP's Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar tore into the PML-N-led coalition, accusing it – and its military muscle – of choking political dissent and bulldozing the opposition's constitutional right to peaceful protest. The participants of the moot hailed six Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges who dared to speak out against institutional meddling – branding them 'national heroes' for standing their ground. Rejecting the legitimacy of the 2024 general elections, the APC demanded an empowered, independent Election Commission endowed with the authority to conduct free and fair polls. On regional and human rights issues, the moot affirmed that the natural resources of Balochistan belong to its people and called for the immediate judicial production of all missing persons. It also pressed for civilian oversight over law enforcement agencies and advocated lifting restrictions on pilgrims journeying to Arbaeen by road. Further, the declaration sought the reopening of traditional cross-border trade routes, the reinstatement of Peshawar High Court (PHC) verdict concerning the Action in Aid of Civil Power Regulations, and the withdrawal of a Supreme Court appeal filed by the PTI-led provincial government. Highlighting environmental concerns, the participants urged implementation of the 1993 water distribution accord and voiced alarm over canal projects threatening the fragile Indus Delta ecosystem. Electoral reforms featured prominently, with calls for direct elections to the Senate and the enhancement of senators' legislative powers to parity with National Assembly members. The APC also pressed for granting Gilgit-Baltistan full constitutional provincial status and renewed efforts to foster inter-party cooperation nationwide. Condemning governmental constraints on press freedom, the conference demanded an end to Jirga-backed practices deemed discriminatory against women. The APC's communiqué concluded with a foreign policy stance, vehemently condemning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling for his designation as an international war criminal and prosecution before the International Court of Justice. NA panel probes sugar price, tobacco woes

PHOTO: APP The National Assembly Standing Committee on National Food Security on Friday underscored the importance of investigating the causes behind the sugar price hike and exploring possible measures for market stabilisation and consumer relief. The committee met here with Syed Tariq Hussain in the chair. Committee Member Zulfiqar Ali raised the issue of sugar prices and urged the chair to include it in the next meeting's agenda. He said that the industry reaped Rs300 billion in profits, while consumers suffered losses. "Farmers and consumers have suffered losses. This matter should be included in the upcoming [meeting's] agenda," Ali said. Later, the committee decided to include the sugar price issue on the agenda for its next meeting. The committee discussed the issues facing tobacco growers. The committee was informed that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials had been appointed to 23 tobacco companies to monitor tobacco. The chair underscored the importance of increasing tobacco cultivation. "If we look at the region, the world has gone far ahead at the policy level," Tariq told the committee. "The world has come a long way in the use of drones and other technologies in the farming sector," he said. "We need support at the policy-making level." The committee was informed that general sales tax (GST) was imposed on cigarettes, not on tobacco. It was also informed that approximately Rs949 million allocated for research and development remains unutilised due to the vacant director position at the Pakistan Tobacco Board (PTB). The chair instructed the ministry to expedite the appointment to all vacant posts at the PTB and its related committees so that the pending development and reform initiatives could move forward without any delay. The meeting was updated on key areas, including the current tobacco taxation policy, the framework for collection and utilisation of the cess fund over the past 10 years, the PTB's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and the potential introduction of a crop insurance scheme for tobacco growers. The committee was informed that the PTB had constituted committees to oversee cess regulation, CSR programmes, and development activities. However, the committee raised concerns over the exclusion of tobacco growers from these bodies. In response, the committee directed the ministry to ensure that representatives of tobacco growers are included in all relevant committees, stressing that meaningful reform and facilitation measures could not succeed without their direct involvement. The committee also held a detailed discussion on reports of donkey meat being sold in Islamabad, expressing serious concern over the public health risks and regulatory negligence. The ministry was instructed to take up the issue with the relevant authority and report back in the next meeting. During a presentation by CropLife Pakistan, the committee was informed that the organisation's mission was to support farmers in producing enough food to meet the needs of a growing population through access to innovative agricultural technologies.
