Antrim beaten by Wexford in Leinster SHC opener
Wexford avenged their Leinster Championship defeat by Antrim last year as they beat the Saffrons 2-24 to 0-19 in the provincial series opener at Wexford Park.
Antrim started impressively as they led 0-6 to 0-2 after nine minutes but Lee Chin's nine points helped the home side fight back to lead 0-14 to 0-10 at half-time, despite having Jack O'Connor sent off on 21 minutes.

Chin went on to finish with 0-16 for Wexford although the key goals which effectively ended Antrim's hopes were scored by Kevin Foley and Cian Byrne in the 53rd and 60th minutes.
Antrim's early lead could have been even bigger with Nigel Elliott going close to notching a goal in the opening seconds and Gerard Walsh then firing a penalty over the crossbar for the opening score.
Walsh lined out despite the death of his younger sister Fionnuala last week and he went on to tally 0-4 for the Saffrons.
However after trailing 0-6 to 0-2, Wexford responded with six unanswered scores as Chin hit four straight points before two more Rory O'Connor efforts.

Jack O'Connor's sending off for an apparent strike looked to be a major boost for Davy Fitzgerald's side on his return to Wexford Park after being in charge of the county between 2016 and 2021.
But with Chin continuing to fire over points from frees and play and Conor Hearne also notching two scores, Wexford led 0-14 to 0-10 at the interval.
Two superb James McNaughton scores helped reduce Wexford's lead to 0-15 to 0-13 but the home side regained control with four straight scores, with included two more frees from home skipper Chin.
Keelan Molloy then had a goal chance for the Saffrons but Wexford keeper Mark Fanning made a brilliant save to divert the sliotar over the crossbar for a point.

The Saffrons were still in touch at 0-20 to 0-16 down but Foley's goal after he won the ball from a puckout and ran straight through the middle to fire past Ryan Elliott put Wexford in control.
Any remote hopes of a late Antrim fightback were ended by Cian Byrne's goal which was set up by Cian Molloy seconds after the Saffrons had been reduced to 14 men themselves following Conor Boyd's second yellow card.
After his side had appeared to be the victims of several harsh refereeing calls, Antrim boss Fitzgerald was yellow carded for protests in the closing stages.

Samuel Chin, a Timothy Christian transfer, earns pitching start for St. Laurence. And trust. ‘That meant a lot.'
After transferring to St. Laurence from Timothy Christian, Samuel Chin wasn't eligible to play last season on the varsity. He spent a year pitching for the junior varsity and getting ready. Receiving his first crack at playing varsity this spring, the junior left-hander didn't imagine he would be in the position to start a game with a trip to state on the line. 'Coming in, I didn't know what kind of role I was going to be in, if I was going to be a starter or a reliever,' Chin said. 'I've been kind of finding my way, and it was obviously great to get to pitch in a game like this.' Chin was ready for the moment Monday night, throwing four no-hit innings as the Vikings pulled out a 2-1 victory over Simeon in the Class 3A Crestwood Supersectional at Ozinga Field. Daniel Coyle produced the game-winning RBI single in the fifth inning for St. Laurence (35-5). Enrique Villanueva added an RBI, while Mickey Lotus singled and scored. Louisville recruit Cory Les earned the pitching win in relief, throwing three shutout innings. The Vikings clinched the fifth state trophy in program history and will make their first state appearance since 2021, taking on Troy Triad (33-6) at 10 a.m. Friday in a semifinal at Duly Health and Care Field in Joliet. 'It's surreal,' Les said. 'It's something we've been talking about since last year every single day. There was one goal to get here, and now we're two games away.' Chin felt the pressure early, walking the first two hitters of the game in facing Simeon (20-13-1). One came around to score. But he settled in from there, allowing just one more walk and no hits in four innings. He struck out three. Chin said he was honored that pitching coach Adam Lotus had faith in him to make such a big start. 'Coach Adam gave me the ball and trusted me,' Chin said. 'I've never been in this position before, but he trusted me with it and that meant a lot. 'Even though the first inning was a little rough and I didn't have my best stuff, I battled and got through four innings.' After some early season struggles, Chin (4-2) said he gained confidence when he recorded the wins in back-to-back starts against Hanover Central on April 26 and Loyola on May 3, throwing six shutout innings in both. He certainly has made a believer out of head coach Pete Lotus. 'He pitched great,' Lotus said of Chin. 'He didn't give up a hit. He's been doing it all year. Going through the Catholic League Blue, he did a really good job pitching against some really good teams. 'Obviously, in a game like this, it's a different environment, but aside from a couple walks at the start, he did great.' It was Chin's ability to shake off the shaky start that most impressed Les. 'It's definitely his poise,' Les said. 'You can see it out there. He doesn't really get fazed by anything. He walked the first two guys and he didn't panic. He's not aiming out there — he's just letting it go. He's confident. 'I trust him like a brother out there and I know he's going to execute.' With the Vikings down 1-0 in the fourth inning, they loaded the bases with no outs. Villanueva put the ball in play to drive in Les on a fielder's choice to tie the game. That was all St. Laurence got that inning, but Coyle delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth. 'It obviously wasn't our best game, but that's something we're going to do,' Villanueva said. 'We're going to outexecute any opponent.'

Five-goal Wexford knock Antrim out of Tailteann Cup
Antrim's season ended in dismal fashion as they crashed out of the Tailteann Cup with a 5-23 to 2-21 defeat by Wexford in the preliminary quarter-finals. Having narrowly earned a spot in the prelims as the third best of the third-placed teams in the round-robin stage, Andy McEntee's side hoped to stage another stirring run through the knockout rounds after back-to-back semi-final appearances in 2023 and 2024. Advertisement But they were well beaten in Wexford Park as they were put to the sword by the Model County's full-forward line of Sean Nolan (2-3), Ben Brosnan (1-2) and Jack Higgins (0-3). Goals from Nolan and Brosnan, and a couple of Darragh Brooks two-pointers, helped Wexford establish a commanding 2-14 to 0-7 lead at the break. And John Hegarty's side pulled clear after the restart and led by 22 points at 4-21 to 0-11 with 12 minutes left after Nolan and Mark Rossiter added to their goal tally. To Antrim's credit, they refused to give up as quickfire goals by Patrick Finnegan and Dominic McEnhill and three two-pointers helped them reduce the deficit to eight points. Advertisement However, substitute Robbie Brooks added a fifth goal for Wexford to bring the curtain down on a disappointing year for Antrim, who were also relegated from Division Three. Fermanagh, who qualified for the quarter-finals by topping their group, are the sole Ulster representation left in this year's Tailteann Cup.
