Soccer-Brazil storm past Uruguay 5-1 to reach Women's Copa America final
QUITO (Reuters) -Brazil advanced to the Women's Copa America final with a 5-1 semi-final victory over Uruguay on Tuesday, with Amanda Gutierres scoring twice for the defending champions.
Brazil will face Colombia in Saturday's final in a rematch of the 2022 title decider, which Brazil won to claim their eighth title.
The Brazilians have also secured qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
"We are very happy, it is my first final. It is the result of the work we have been doing with the coach," the 24-year-old Gutierres said.
"Colombia are a very tough opponent, but we are working very hard to win that trophy."
Gutierres opened the scoring after 11 minutes by heading home a pinpoint cross from Marta, and Brazil doubled their advantage just two minutes later when Gio Garbelini pounced on a loose ball to score from close range.
Uruguay almost pulled one back when Belen Aquino's effort struck the crossbar but Brazil went 3-0 up in the 27th minute through a penalty from Marta, her first goal of the tournament.
Uruguay reduced the deficit in the 51st minute through an own goal by Isa Haas but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Gutierres restored Brazil's three-goal lead with a brilliant free kick in the 65th minute.
Substitute Dudinha capped the rout four minutes from time.

The second set brought its own twist, when technical issues halted play at 2-2, leaving the stadium unable to register calls. Once play resumed and after Shelton complained, Khachanov surged to a 4-3 lead. However, the resilient Shelton broke again to edge ahead 5-4 and saved four break points to clinch the second set, forcing a decider, which was decided by a tie-break. Shuttlers not going to Aire-sur-la-Lys this time
KUALA LUMPUR: The national doubles squad will not go early to train at the Aire-sur-la-Lys centre in France for the Paris World Championships. They will continue their final tune-up at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara instead. Last year, the doubles shuttlers had a 10-day camp in the northern French town before the Paris Olympics. National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky said the ABM is ideal for preparation this time before they depart for Paris on Aug 21. "We have a bigger doubles squad this time, and it is better for us to remain here to finetune our preparations. "We have many good men's doubles pairs at home to help our four pairs (for the world meet) have quality training and sparring sessions. "The same goes for the women's doubles and mixed doubles, where we want to focus on the final touches." Malaysia's men's pairs in Paris are Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, Wan Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani. The women's pairs are Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing and mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin.

The 18-year-old staged a remarkable comeback after losing the opening set to the Japanese former world number one, who had established a 3-0 lead as Mboko struggled with costly service errors. However,the home favourite found her rhythm in the second set, breaking serve to establish a 5-2 lead. Osaka struggled to catch up, and her poor returns allowed Mboko to level the match and force a decider. The decisive moment came in the third set, when Mboko took a 3-1 lead after saving four break points in a pivotal fourth game that gave her a firm grip on the match as she went on to claim the title after two hours and four minutes of play.
