Delhi: ED raids against fake call centres duping US citizens
New Delhi, Aug 1 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate has conducted searches in Delhi as part of a money laundering probe against a 'fake" call centre which allegedly duped US citizens by pitching sale of 'pirated" software, official sources said Friday. Three premises in Khanpur were raided around 10:30 pm on Thursday and the searches are still going on, they said. The action is being undertaken as per the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Preliminary investigation suggests, the sources said, that a call centre was being operated by some persons who misled citizens in countries like the US by pitching 'fictitious or pirated" software under the name of original software like Microsoft Windows. The agency suspects that funds worth Rs 100 crore have been received as foreign remittances over the past few years (2016-17 to 2024-25). According to Rekha, she was beaten, her mobile phone was taken away, and she was pressured to end things with Kanhaiyalal. Family Backlash And Police Involvement Upon discovering the marriage, Rekha's family caused an uproar. Despite the opposition, Rekha and Kanhaiyalal have maintained that their decision was made entirely of their own free will, without any external coercion. Rekha, however, remains fearful of her parents and has expressed her reluctance to meet them. She left home with only her essential documents. Seeking Protection And A Peaceful Life Now married, the couple seeks to live a peaceful life free from further disputes. Both families are tense and worried following the unexpected love marriage. British Sikh Man Stabbed To Death In London, 5 Arrested

A 30-year-old British Sikh man was fatally stabbed in east London in an attack involving individuals known to each other, according to the UK police. Gurmuk Singh, also known as Gary, died last week on Felbrigge Road, Ilford, East London, and was officially identified by the Metropolitan Police on Thursday. The police stated that officers had arrested Amardeep Singh, 27, on suspicion of the murder that occurred on July 23. He has been charged with one count of murder and remains in custody pending his next court appearance at London's Old Bailey for trial on January 5, 2026. 'Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to reports of an altercation at a residential address," a PTI report quoted Met Police's statement. 'Officers attended as Gary was treated for stab wounds. Despite the best efforts of the paramedics, he sadly died at the scene," it said. Detectives also arrested a 29-year-old man and three women aged 29, 30 and 54 in connection with the brutal killing. They have all since been released on bail until October while the police investigation continues. A post-mortem examination has indicated the cause of death as a stab wound to the left thigh, with an inquest opened and adjourned while the police investigation into the attack is ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke from the Met's Specialist Crime North unit said at the time of the attack that detectives believed it was an 'isolated incident". 'An incident of this nature sends shockwaves throughout the local area and we understand the direct impact on the community.
