Amanah Saham Sarawak declares 3.0 sen final dividend, total payout hits RM28.76m

Malay Mail16-07-2025
KUCHING, July 16 — Amanah Saham Sarawak (Assar) today announced a final dividend of 3.0 sen per unit for the financial year 2025.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the second distribution after the interim distribution in January would involve a payment of RM14.52 million to 57,870 investors, calculated based on the remaining unit holdings as of June 30, 2025.
'Assar's total dividend for the financial year ending June 30, 2025 is 6.0 sen per unit, comprising an interim dividend of 3.0 sen per unit plus a final dividend of 3.0 sen per unit, with a total distribution of RM28.76 million,' he said when announcing the dividend distribution here.
Abang Johari said that to ensure Assar remains relevant and close to the hearts of the community, Assar needs to take the initiative to reach out to investors, especially those in the rural areas.
He said the launch of Assar's mobile office today was also important in its efforts to reach out to investors.
'With the launch of this mobile office, I am confident that more people will have easy access to investment information and services related to Assar funds without having to come to the Assar office in Kuching.
'I hope initiatives like this will continue and expand. We want to see more innovations in the way services are delivered in this state, especially in rural areas - so that it is more inclusive, people-friendly and efficient,' he said.
Assar was launched on August 25, 1993 to provide opportunities for the bumiputera in Sarawak to participate in the country's economic development through a collective investment scheme in the capital market. — Bernama

Demonstrations tarnish country's image, threaten VM2026, tour operator group says

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Tourism Agency Association (Mata) has expressed concern over the impact of street demonstrations, particularly in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), saying they threaten public security and tarnish the country's reputation as a safe tourism destination. It stressed that such continued large-scale public demonstrations could hinder efforts to promote VM2026 and attract millions of potential international visitors. "A tarnished national image can directly affect tourist arrivals and foreign investments. "Demonstrations can affect business operations and employment opportunities, and increase the overall cost of living for the people. The people's peace and safety are priorities that cannot be compromised," said its president Datuk Sri Dr Mohd Khalid Harun in a statement on Monday (July 28). Mata also warned that mobilising the people to take to the streets posed a security risk, including potential provocation, conflicts and disorders that could threaten public order. Mata also said that Malaysia, known as a destination for Islamic and nature-based tourism, would face huge challenges if street demonstrations continue and receive negative media exposure globally. Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid also reminded that Malaysia is currently in a strong post-pandemic economic recovery phase. "Stability and peace are the foundation of progress in the tourism industry. Without safety guarantees, tourists will choose other destinations, which are more stable and safer," he said. He emphasised that Mata recognises the people's right to voice their opinions, but stressed that every action must be carried out responsibly without compromising national harmony. "We must work together to maintain stability to ensure VM2026 is successful and the people's economy continues to grow," he said. - Bernama

Malaysia's producer price index declined 4.2% in June 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures price changes at the producer level, went down further by 4.2 per cent in June 2025, after a 3.6 per cent decline in the previous month, said the Department of Statistics (DoSM) today. Its chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said all sectors registered year-on-year declines in June 2025, with mining and manufacturing sectors emerging as the primary contributors to the overall negative trend of the index. The mining sector declined by 8.0 per cent compared to -15 per cent in May 2025, affected by the declines in extraction of natural gas (-12.0 per cent) and extraction of crude petroleum (-6.7 per cent) indices. At the same time, the manufacturing sector went down by -4.3 per cent against 3.0 per cent in May 2025, contributed by significant downturns in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-17.7 per cent) and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (-7.8 per cent) indices. - Bernama Trading ideas: TNB, Ekovest, Sapura Energy, Globetronics, Jentayu, Rhone Ma, Ecobuilt, Salcon, ETA, Polymer, CTOS

BNM revises Malaysia's 2025 GDP growth projection to 4.0-4.8 pct

BNM)has revised Malaysia's 2025 GDP growth projection to between 4.0 per cent and 4.8 per cent from 4.5 per cent – 5.5 per cent previously.– Photo from KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has revised Malaysia's 2025 gross domestic product (GDP) growth projection to between 4.0 per cent and 4.8 per cent from 4.5 per cent – 5.5 per cent previously. The projection takes into account various tariff scenarios, ranging from continued elevation of tariffs to more favourable trade negotiation outcomes. In a statement today, the central bank said the forecast remains subject to uncertainties surrounding the global economy, both on the downside and the upside. 'Favourable trade negotiation outcomes, pro-growth policies in major economies, continued demand for electrical and electronic goods, and robust tourism activity could raise Malaysia's export and growth prospects,' it said. Meanwhile, BNM Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour said the Malaysian economy remains resilient despite global uncertainties, supported by the outcome of structural reforms undertaken over the years. 'The sustained strength in economic activity and moderate inflation provides a supportive environment to pursue structural reforms for a more resilient and competitive Malaysia in the future,' he said. According to the central bank, headline inflation is projected to remain moderate, averaging between 1.5 and 2.3 per cent in 2025, reflecting the more moderate cost and demand outlook since March 2025. 'Inflationary pressure from global commodity prices is expected to remain limited, contributing to moderate domestic cost conditions. In this environment, the impact of domestic policy measures is expected to remain contained,' it said. BNM noted that the global economic landscape has undergone considerable changes since the announcement of Malaysia's 2025 GDP growth forecast in Bank Negara Malaysia's Economic and Monetary Review in March 2025. It said the global growth outlook is affected by shifting trade policies and uncertainties surrounding tariff developments, as well as geopolitical tensions. 'As a small open economy, Malaysia's growth prospects will be shaped by these developments. It is to Malaysia's advantage that our economy is facing these external headwinds from a position of strength. 'The latest indicators, including advanced estimates for the second quarter growth, continue to point towards sustained strength in economic activity. Domestic demand has been resilient and will continue to support growth going forward,' it said. Favourable labour market conditions — particularly in domestic-oriented sectors — and policy measures will continue to underpin private consumption. Meanwhile, BNM said expansion in investment activity will be sustained by progress in multi-year infrastructure projects, continued high realisation of approved investments and catalytic initiatives under the national development plans. — BERNAMA TAGS: BNM, GDP, revised, tariff, global economy ZER ZER NII Monday , 28 July 2025 2025 Bank Negara Malaysia GDP projection
