Flood situation still grim in northern Odisha
Hundreds of acres of farmland and several roads were inundated by floodwaters from the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka rivers. Revenue and disaster management minister Suresh Pujari said, "We are keeping a close watch on the flood situation. The rainfall has reduced, leading to receding water levels in the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka rivers. Once the water recedes, the govt will assess the damage, and all who faced loss due to the flood will be compensated.
" The district administration has been asked to focus on post-flood restoration work, he added.
With the Subarnarekha river flowing above the danger mark at Rajghat on Tuesday morning, nearly 30 villages in 15 gram panchayats of Bhograi block and several villages of Baliapal, Jaleswar, and Basta blocks were affected. Though rainfall activity has reduced in northern parts of the state, heavy rain lashed Sambalpur and Sundargarh districts on Tuesday, increasing the water level in the Baitarani River.

However, the situation is under control, official sources said.
"Our paddy fields with saplings sown are submerged. This is our only source of income. We do not know how we will survive," said Sudarshan Sahu, a resident of Madhupura village in Baliapal block. Many farmers also complained about the loss of vegetable crops due to the flood. Residents further complained about limited access to drinking water and expressed concern about waterborne diseases once the water recedes.
Nearly 3,000 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas in Balasore district and provided shelter in 17 places, official sources said. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is likely in Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar districts until July 6. Some westerndistricts are also likely to witness low to moderate rain between July 5 and 6.

Bhopal rains flood underpass; school van trapped in water; cops rescue 10 kids
BHOPAL: A school van got stuck in rising water while attempting to cross the Subhash Nagar Underbridge on Wednesday morning, following heavy rainfall in the area. Water accumulated at the underpass, creating hazardous driving conditions. Despite the water level being visibly high, the van driver tried to drive through. As the vehicle moved forward, water rose above the wheels, causing the engine to stall and the van to become stranded midway. An MP Nagar Dial-100 First Response Vehicle (FRV), patrolling nearby, spotted the van stuck in the water. Acting swiftly, police personnel rescued the children from the vehicle and ensured their safe transportation to school.
