13 medicos of AIIMS-Mangalagiri suspended on charges of ragging
Based on the inquiry report submitted by the Anti-Ragging Committee and a team of officers who conducted an inquiry into a ragging incident on Saturday, the institute's management debarred all the 13 students from hostel till completion of their course.
'Three medicos were suspended from classes for one-and-a-half-year, six students for a year and four students for six months. Besides, a penalty of ₹25,000 has been imposed on each one of them. They have been directed to submit apology letters and behavioural change certificates after their suspension period,' said institute spokesperson K. Vamsi Krishna Reddy.
It was alleged that the accused harassed a junior medico and resorted to ragging in the hostel room a few days ago. 'We received a complaint through mail, and we constituted a committee comprising of AIIMS officials, police and the NGO representatives, who inquired and confirmed ragging,' Mr. Vamsi Krishna Reddy said.
'The complainant alleged that 15 students resorted to ragging. During inquiry, the committee found the involvement of only 13 students in the incident, against whom action has been taken. The management is taking measures to prevent ragging as per Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009,' an official of AIIMS said on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the Mangalagiri police began an investigation into the alleged ragging in AIIMS.

She said that Leeroy suffered critical head injuries and he is under constant medical observation. Ruling out the hate crime amg;e, the SSP said that the attack followed an argument between Leeroy and the university security guard, Dilpreet Singh. 'During checking at the university gate on August 12, a baseball bat was found in Leeroy's car and he had an argument with Dilpreet. A day later, Dilpreet and his accomplices followed Leeroy and attacked him with baseball bats, sticks and sharp-edged weapons. Leeroy is in a critical condition,' the SSP said. A case was registered at Talwandi Sabo under Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 126 (2) wrongful restraint, 115 (2) voluntarily causing hurt; 190 (unlawful assembly for offences committed in prosecution of their common object) and 191 (3) rioting involving deadly weapons of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The first information report (FIR) was lodged on the complaint of assistant sub-inspector Des Raj, as the doctors attending to Leeroy pronounced the patient unfit to give a police statement. A BSc second-year student under the faculty of health and allied sciences of Guru Kashi University, was found in an unconscious condition near the campus on Wednesday and was rushed to the hospital by the police. Investigators said that after attacking the foreign national, the attackers rammed their car into a tree and left it behind. The vehicle was impounded by the police.

A Zimbabwean student, Ziweya Leeroy, 22, suffered multiple injuries after being attacked by a group of car-borne unidentified persons at Talwandi Sabo town of Bathinda on Wednesday evening. Ziweya Leeroy, 22, suffered multiple injuries after being attacked Police authorities rushed the foreign national, who was found in an unconscious condition, to a local hospital, after which he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda. Leeroy is a BSc second-year student under the faculty of health and allied sciences of Guru Kashi University, a private institute at Talwandi Sabo. Despite repeated attempts, vice-chancellor Rameshwar Singh couldn't be contacted for comments. University dean, students' welfare, Des Raj, expressed ignorance about the medical condition of the injured student, or whether he was a hosteller or staying outside the university campus. 'The incident took place outside of the university premises and the matter is being probed by the police,' the dean said. Talwandi deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rajesh Snehi Batta said that one suspect has been detained for questioning. 'Preliminary investigations reveal that Leeroy had a scuffle with the security personnel of the university on Tuesday. It is premature to say anything, and police are trying to confirm if an attack on the student was a fallout of yesterday's incident,' he said. DSP said Leeroy was with 3-4 other persons when he was thrashed. 'After the crime, the assailants rammed their car into a tree and left it behind. We have impounded the vehicle, and efforts are being made to identify the culprits,' the DSP added. No case had been registered at the time of filing of this report.

Student from Zimbawe attacked at Bathinda university, admitted to AIIMS with head injuries
1 2 Bathinda: A student from Zimbawe, studying at Guru Kashi University in Talwandi Sabo town of Bathinda, was admitted to AIIMS, Bathinda, on Wednesday with head injuries, after he was attacked in the afternoon. The condition of Ziweya Leeroy (22) is stated to be serioues. He is pursuing a BSc in radiology and imaging technology (RIT) and had joined the university in 2023. It is learnt he had an altercation with a guard of the university on Tuesday, but it is not clear if the guard is behind the attack. Police have rounded up a suspect and an investigation is being carried out. Leeroy was initially taken to Talwandi Sabo civil hospital, but he was later referred to AIIMS due to the serious nature of his injuries. Bathinda senior superintendent of police Amneet Kondal said police came to know of the attack at 4pm. She confirmed the detention of a suspect and the altercation which took place with the guard on Tuesday. She added doctors were going to carry out an MRI scan of the student's head to understand the nature of the injury.
