2024 Maharashtra Assembly polls data: Congress to hold ‘torch march', demand probe into LoP Rahul's allegations on EC
This development comes a week after Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, in his article in The Indian Express alleged electoral malpractices in the state assembly elections. Replying to Gandhi, the Election Commission of India denied any wrongdoing or malpractice in the conduct of the election.
Congress state president Harshvardhan Sapkal will participate in the protest in Gadchiroli. All Congress leaders, MPs and legislators have been asked to participate in protests across the state.
'The BJP coalition government has come to power in the state by stealing votes in the assembly elections. Votes have been stolen with the help of the Election Commission and this vote theft is not being investigated. The credibility of the Election Commission is at stake and the democratic system is being attacked,' said Sapkal.
He said that the state Congress will take out torch marches across the state on Thursday, to create awareness and demand an investigation into the scam in the assembly elections.
Sapkal alleged that there is doubt about the voting percentage announced by the Election Commission. 'After the voting ended, the voters who declared 58 percent showed 66.5 percent the next day, an increase of 7.83 percent. This is a big scam. It is the duty of the Election Commission to conduct fair and transparent elections, but if there are clouds of suspicion on them, it is dangerous for democracy,' he said.

‘Voter Adhikar yatra': Will not let ‘conspiracy' to ‘steal' Bihar polls through SIR succeed, says Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday (August 17, 2025) said the whole country now knows that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is "stealing" elections in collusion with the BJP and asserted that the INDIA bloc will not let them succeed in their "conspiracy" to steal Bihar Assembly polls by voter additions and deletions through the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Addressing the gathering in Sasaram at the launch event of his 1,300 km 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' covering over 20 districts in Bihar, Mr. Gandhi said while he was asked to submit an affidavit after his press conference exposing "vote chori", no such demand was made from BJP leaders who made claims in their presser. Rahul Gandhi's 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' LIVE "In the whole country, Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are being stolen and their last conspiracy is to delete and add voters through SIR to steal the elections in Bihar," Mr. Gandhi charged. "We will not let them steal the election in Bihar. People of Bihar will not let them steal elections. Poor only have the power of vote and will not let them steal polls," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said. He said the whole country now knows what the ECI is doing and how it is carrying out this "theft". Mr. Gandhi said his press conference a few days back had exposed how "vote chori" is being carried out. He asserted that it is a fight to save the Constitution. Mr. Gandhi alleged that in the whole of India, the RSS and BJP are trying to "destroy" the Constitution. "In every election BJP wins. In Maharashtra all opinion polls said the INDIA bloc will win. In the Lok Sabha, our alliance had won but after four months in same Maharashtra, BJP alliance swept the polls as one crore voters were added and wherever such additions happened BJP won," Mr. Gandhi said. He said the Congress had showed that over one lakh votes were stolen in one assembly segment and the BJP won that Lok Sabha seat. The Yatra launch event here was attended by the likes of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, Vikassheel Insaan Party's Mukesh Sahani, CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI(M)'s Subhashini Ali and CPI's P Sandosh Kumar. With the Assembly polls barely three months away, Gandhi, along with RJD's Tejashwi Yadav and other Mahagathbandhan leaders, launched the 1300 km yatra from BIADA Ground, Sasaram, and after 16 days, the yatra will conclude with a rally in Patna on September 1.

Speaking at the launch of his 1,300-km Voter Adhikar Yatra from Sasaram, which will cover more than 20 districts in Bihar, Gandhi said, 'In the whole country, Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are being stolen and their last conspiracy is to delete and add voters through SIR to steal the elections in Bihar." He alleged differential treatment by authorities, pointing out that he was asked to submit an affidavit after holding a press conference on 'vote chori", while no such demand was made from BJP leaders after their media interactions. 'We will not let them steal the election in Bihar. People of Bihar will not let them steal elections. Recalling recent poll outcomes, Gandhi said, 'In every election BJP wins. In Maharashtra all opinion polls said the INDIA bloc will win. In the Lok Sabha, our alliance had won but after four months in same Maharashtra, BJP alliance swept the polls as one crore voters were added and wherever such additions happened BJP won." Cong-RJD Bihar yatra failed political gimmick, says BJP's Shahnawaz Hussain
Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Shahnawaz Hussain on Sunday dismissed the joint yatra of Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Bihar as a 'failed exercise', claiming it would have no impact on the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking to IANS in Patna, Hussain alleged that the two opposition parties were 'fooling the people of Bihar' by staging such programmes. 'The Congress and RJD are creating confusion in the minds of Bihari voters, but 'inke baaton me koi nahi aayega (no one will fall for their words)'. This yatra will fail,' he said. Hussain asserted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would contest the elections with 'full strength' and secure a clear victory. 'The Mahagathbandhan will face a huge defeat in Bihar. When they lose, they will blame it on the Election Commission. That is why they are already building a narrative against the ECI,' he added. The BJP leader further said that wherever the opposition's yatra would travel, the NDA would 'also go and expose their lies before the people.' He accused the Congress and RJD of lacking vision for Bihar's development and relying only on rhetoric. 'Bihar's people are politically aware. They will not be swayed by these gimmicks,' Hussain remarked. 'The NDA will reach every voter and seek their blessings for continued development. The opposition's yatra will make no difference,' he added. It is pertinent to note here that the Congress and RJD are scheduled to begin their joint yatra in Bihar on Sunday, seen as a show of unity and an attempt to consolidate opposition ranks ahead of the high-stakes Bihar Assembly elections. However, the BJP has sought to counter the initiative by projecting it as a desperate move by parties that have 'lost ground' in the state.
