Coronation Street fans beg for soap tribute to late Frank Grimes after sudden death
Coronation Street fans have put out their hopes for a soap tribute following the death of actor Frank Grimes. The TV star died aged 78 following a short illness, with tributes pouring in from fans.
Frank appeared on the ITV soap as Barrington "Barry" Connor between 2008 to 2015. He played the father of Paul Connor, Liam Connor and Michelle Connor.
The actor returned to the soap as Barry in 2015 to attend Michelle's wedding to Steve McDonald. Frank appeared in over 50 episodes and was a key character in the Connor family. It comes after reports that the Coronation Street actor died after a short illness.
It has left many fans now calling for ITV to pay a tribute to Frank on the show. Reacting to the sad news, one fan shared: "Hopefully Corrie will make reference to Liam and Ryan's grandad passing away at some stage.
"I always enjoyed his scenes when he did appear, ironically only watched some the other day! May he rest in peace." Another fan reacted on Reddit as they commented: "Aw, that's sad to hear.
"I also enjoyed seeing him and Helen whenever they were around." Other fans shared their support for a Coronation Street tribute as they liked the post.
The Irish Cultural Centre are among those who have paid tribute to Frank. In a statement, they said: "Frank was undoubtedly one of Ireland's greatest actors, he was a dearly loved friend of the ICC's and over the past three decades, he trod the ICC's stage on so many occasions.
"Anyone who saw Frank perform his riveting self-penned production 'the he and the she of it…' A Portrait of James Joyce', will know what a thrilling, powerful, unforgettable performance it was!
"Frank performed this superb tribute to his hero James Joyce, on whom he was an expert, three times at the ICC, and each time, every night he received standing ovations!
"Frank was a spell-binding actor who had the most beautiful mesmerising voice and he often appeared on the radio show 'Bright Side Of The Road.'"
They added: "Frank was so warm hearted, full of Dublin wit and charm in abundance and he had a beautiful sparkle in his eyes.
"We know that Ireland has lost one of it's truly great actors, the vintage of which is so rare and may never ever be matched again.
"We are so sad to have to say goodbye to Frank, but we are also so blessed to have known him, to have worked with him and seen him perform.
"We send our sincere condolences to his wife Ginnette, his daughter Tilly, his son Andrew, his seven grandchildren and to all his extended family. We also send our condolences to all of Frank's friends and loved ones - May Frank sleep easy now."
Frank had an illustrious TV career, having also starred in Mrs Brown's Boys, A Bridge Too Far, Tulips of Harlem, The Outsider and Blind Justice. He also had guest roles in the likes of Doctors and Casualty as well as Holby City.

Katie Price accused of 'last act of desperation' hours before Princess Andre's show
Katie Price has been accused of trying to steal the limelight back from daughter Princess Andre, as the teen launches her reality TV show tonight Katie Price has been accused of one last act of 'desperation' as she posted a raunchy glamour model shot just hours before her daughter Princess makes her reality TV debut. The star's oldest daughter follows in her mum's footsteps with her own documentary style ITV series The Princess Diaries, but crucially omitted Katie from appearing. After admitting bursting into tears when she found out she'd been 'blacklisted' from a show all about her teen daughter's life, Katie insisted she would not be watching and would not be promoting the show. However, hours before the show's release, fans accused Katie of making a last ditch attempt to steal focus as she posed in an ultra revealing cut-out body suit. It comes after Katie Price worries fans with appearance in family photo after explaining weight loss. In her latest snap, the 47-year-old was seen grabbing her hair back in the seductive shot which appeared to be a throwback to her 'Jordan' modelling heyday. The shot, which was signed off with nothing but a black love heart, sent an immediate frenzy in the comment section. "Why publish this the night before your daughters series due to start smacks of desperation," one fan complained. "Please just stop... it's your daughter's time to shine, embarrassing her again!" eyerolled another. However, other fans insisted Katie was still at the top of her game and wasn't trying to outdo anybody. "She's not suddenly trying to make herself famous," fumed one. Other fans accused Katie of posting an old photo for attention, as they accused her of digging through the archives to post something shocking ahead of Princess' big day. While others were thrilled with the display of Katie's modelling prowess. "There's only one Pricey," insisted one. "I think you look incredible. Late 40s and still got it," agreed another. While a third told her: "You look beautiful Katie... ignore the haters." It comes after the Mirror exclusively unveiled a series of fresh claims about Katie's 'feud' with Princess. Insiders accused Katie of swerving a meet-up with Princess on her 18th birthday so she could carry on partying abroad instead. The mum-of-five had insisted she was banned from her daughter's 18th birthday party and that her former management team – who look after ex-husband Peter Andre and Princess – did not want her on the show as they considered her 'trash'. Speaking on her podcast, Katie claimed: 'Princess was like 'I'm having a party'. And I wasn't invited because it was for 'filming'.' She added: 'The fact is there's stuff my daughter is doing and I'm not allowed to be seen at any of it.' But insiders claimed her version of events was far from the truth. They said the 18-year-old had arranged to see her mum on the morning of her birthday in June in London – but Katie failed to appear. A source said: 'It was all in the diary but then Katie claimed she couldn't make it as she was abroad. It was disappointing. 'For Katie to then say she was banned from the afternoon's filmed party when she was the no-show in the morning is just beyond belief.' The former Celebrity Big Brother winner was later pictured partying in Ibiza, and then Dubai. She also reportedly accidentally shared a happy birthday Instagram message to Princess – 36 hours before her daughter's big day. Insiders are perplexed by Katie's attempts to 'repeatedly insert herself into her daughter's career'. The model herself claimed: 'I have not been allowed to go on any photoshoots, signings or Superdrug openings or anything like that. I'm not welcome.' But the source said: 'Why is she making this all about her? What sort of person on the eve of her daughter's show, starts throwing all these grenades and believes she knows what's best, and should be given equal billing? It's Princess's life, her career.'
