Netizens grill Pakistan's defence minister Khawaja Asif over claim of ‘hacking floodlights' during IPL match
Pakistan's defence minister, Khawaja Asif, has made yet another bizarre claim, this time, he has said that Islamabad's "cyber warriors" switched off floodlights at a cricket stadium in India during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
Asif, while speaking in the Pakistani assembly, claimed, "India does not understand that all of this is entirely Pakistan's indigenous technology. Our cyber warriors shut off the lights in India and got an IPL match suspended, opened dam waters...all these cyber attacks were done by our kids only."
Asif was likely referring to the May 8 IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala. The match was called off during the 11th over of the first innings as three floodlight towers went off, causing a blackout in the stadium.
The "significant technical failure" caused the match to be cancelled, and the stadium to be evacuated as a safety protocol.
Netizens on social media trolled the Pakistani defence minister, grilling him with comments and posts on X.
One of the user wrote, "Just so you know -- IPL floodlights don't run on WiFi, they run on secure electrical systems. You can't hack them like a home router."
"I didn't know Cyber has different concepts and syllabus in Pakistan!" another quipped.
An X user wrote sarcastically, "If switching off lights is a cyber triumph, then my 3 year old nephew is a global threat he once unplugged the Wi-Fi during a Zoom meeting."
"First pay your due electricity bill online," another said.
Earlier as well, Asif had gotten himself trolled with his remarks related to Operation Sindoor.
During a TV interview, Asif had claimed that Pakistan shot down five Indian fighter planes. But when the anchor asked him to provide proof for the claim, Asif responded, "It's all over social media."
The anchor, surprised by Asif's response, said, "The reason to talk to you today, sir, is not to talk about content all over social media. I'm asking you very specifically for the evidence, for the detail."
However, Asif failed to substantially back his claim.

The first Indian Prime Minister to visit Cyprus in 23 years, Modi said a 'resolution through dialogue and restoration of stability is the call of humanity'. Acknowledging emerging challenges within the international security environment, the joint statement on the visit said that the leaders stressed the importance of enhancing strategic autonomy, defence readiness and defence capabilities. 'They agreed to deepen their defence and security cooperation, including through collaboration between their respective defence industries, with a special focus on cybersecurity and emerging technologies,' the joint statement said. Cyprus is a regional rival of Turkey and is also going to chair the EU Council in 2026. Given India's recent acrimony with Turkey over its military support to Pakistan, Delhi's Cyprus outreach is a significant move. 'We both expressed concern over the conflicts going on in West Asia and Europe. Their negative impact is not just limited to those regions. We both consider that this is not an era of war. Resolution through dialogue and restoration of stability is the call of humanity,' Modi said. 'We are thankful for Cyprus's support to India's fight against cross-border terrorism,' he said. This is his first foreign visit after India conducted Operation Sindoor in May during which it targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. President Christodoulides said, 'We have a historic friendship, and there is trust in ties.' He recalled the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and said Cyprus stands in 'full solidarity' with India. Cyprus 'stands with India in its fight against terrorism' in all forms and manifestations, he said. The joint statement said, 'Cyprus and India unequivocally condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including international and cross-border terrorism, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to countering hybrid threats that undermine peace and stability.' It said Cyprus expressed solidarity and unwavering support to India in its fight against cross-border terrorism. 'The two leaders strongly condemned the gruesome killing of civilians in the recent heinous terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, India. They reiterated their zero-tolerance approach to terrorism, rejecting any justification for such acts, under any circumstances. They emphasised that those responsible for the attacks should be held accountable,' it said. 'The leaders urged all States to respect the sovereignty of other nations and condemned cross-border terrorism in all its forms. They called for the disruption of terrorism financing networks, elimination of safe havens, dismantling of terrorist infrastructure, and bringing perpetrators of terrorism to justice swiftly. Emphasising the need for a comprehensive, coordinated, and sustained approach to combating terrorism across borders, they underscored the importance of working collaboratively, bilaterally and with the multilateral system,' it said. Both leaders, the statement said, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening multilateral efforts to combat terrorism and called for the expeditious finalisation and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism within the UN framework. They urged for concerted actions against all UN-designated and EU-designated terrorists and terrorist entities, associated proxy groups, facilitators, and sponsors, including terrorists under 1267 UNSC Sanctions Committee. They reiterated their strong commitment to continue taking active measures to disrupt terrorist financing channels including through the UN and Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Christodoulides also referred to the June 12 Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad and said the people of Cyprus are with India in this time of grief. Modi said his visit was a 'golden opportunity' to write a new chapter in India-Cyprus bilateral ties. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome on his arrival at the Presidential Palace on Monday. During the joint press conference, Christodoulides said, 'We also discussed the Cyprus issue with the Prime Minister,' adding Cyprus wants to end the 'illegal occupation' by Turkey, referring to the disputed northern region. 'We extend the gratitude of the Republic of Cyprus to India and its people for their support. The support for the territorial integrity of Cyprus, our reunification,' he said. In his remarks, the Prime Minister asserted that mutual trust in democracy and the rule of law form a 'strong foundation of our ties'. 'Our ties are neither made by circumstances nor limited. We respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity,' he said. Underlining the shared values of the two countries and the future trajectory of bilateral ties, Modi said, 'Together, we will shape the future.' He said Cyprus is also a choice tourist destination for Indians, and efforts will be made for direct air connectivity between the two sides. 'We also discussed how to deepen cultural linkages. Yoga and Ayurveda are gaining popularity in Cyprus, which is gladdening to see. Tourism is another area where there is rich potential. We also deliberated on how to improve connectivity,' he said. The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) and India-EU ties also figured in their talks. He invited the Cyprus President to visit India. Modi was also conferred the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III of Cyprus, the country's highest civilian honour. 'Humbled to receive the 'Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III' of Cyprus. I dedicate it to the friendship between our nations,' Modi said after receiving the award. The Order of Makarios III is the senior order of knighthood awarded by the country named after the first President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III. Dedicating the award to the 1.4 billion people of India, Modi said it was an award to the trusted India-Cyprus friendship. 'I am confident that in the time to come, our active partnership will touch new heights. Together, we will not only strengthen the progress of our two nations but also contribute towards building a peaceful and secure world,' he said. The Cyprus award brings the total tally of international honours conferred upon the Prime Minister to 23. India has more nukes than Pakistan, China far ahead: SIPRI report
India has more nuclear warheads than Pakistan, even as China has over three times more warheads than what India has, the latest Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) yearbook released Monday stated. As per the SIPRI yearbook 2025, India has 180 nuclear stored warheads as of January 2025, while Pakistan has an estimated 170. China has 600 nuclear warheads as of January 2025, of which 24 are deployed warheads or those placed on missiles or located on bases with operational forces. The report said that India is believed to have once again slightly expanded its nuclear arsenal in 2024 and continued to develop new types of nuclear delivery systems. It said India's new 'canisterised' missiles, which can be transported with mated warheads, may be capable of carrying nuclear warheads during peacetime, and possibly even multiple warheads on each missile, once they become operational. It added that Pakistan also continued to develop new delivery systems and accumulate fissile material in 2024, suggesting that its nuclear arsenal might expand over the coming decade. It also briefly referred to India's launch of Operation Sindoor. 'The combination of strikes on nuclear-related military infrastructure and third-party disinformation risked turning a conventional conflict into a nuclear crisis,' said Matt Korda, Associate Senior Researcher with SIPRI's Weapons of Mass Destruction Programme. The SIPRI report also said Russia and the US have the largest military stockpile of the nine nuclear forces at 5,459 and 5,177, respectively, including retired warheads. It said Russia, China, India, Pakistan and North Korea deploy dual-capable missiles and all are believed to be modernising these capabilities. 'Up until the mid 2000s, only France, Russia, the UK and the USA deployed missiles with multiple warheads. Since then, China has developed two missiles to carry multiple warheads, while India, Pakistan and North Korea are all currently pursuing this capability,' it said. Talking about India's growing stockpile of nuclear weapons, it said these weapons were assigned to a maturing nuclear triad of aircraft, land-based missiles and SSBNs. 'It has long been assumed that India stores its nuclear warheads separate from its deployed launchers during peacetime; however, the country's recent moves towards placing missiles in canisters and conducting sea-based deterrence patrols suggest that India could be shifting in the direction of mating some of its warheads with their launchers in peacetime,' the report said. It added that although Pakistan remains the focus of India's nuclear deterrent, India appears to be placing growing emphasis on longer-range weapons capable of reaching targets throughout China. It also said that 162 states were recipients of major arms in 2020-24 and the five largest arms recipients were Ukraine, India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, which together accounted for 35 per cent of total arms imports.

Probing fake passport & visa racket, ED finds ‘Bangladeshi' held in Bengal is actually Pakistani
The federal probe agency has made these submissions in the prosecution complaint filed on 13 June before a special court in Kolkata. Azad was arrested on 15 April by the agency as it was originally probing his stay in India without valid documents. Investigating a fake passport racket, the ED found that Azad was allegedly involved in procuring passports and visas for Bangladeshi nationals seeking to travel to foreign countries including Dubai, Cambodia, and Malaysia via India. New Delhi: A Pakistani national, he took on the identity of a Bangladeshi national to enter India and procured multiple Indian identification cards to stay illegally in India. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) suspects Ahammed Hossain Azad alias Azad Hossain or Ajad Mallik was 'actively involved' in facilitating passports and visas for Bangladeshi nationals. The ED's case stems from an FIR filed by West Bengal police under Section 14 and 14A of Foreigners Act, 1946 against Azad and others. The agency carried out searches at seven premises linked to him, including his residence at M.A. Sarani in North 24 Parganas district. 'Through document forgery and illegal means, it is suspected that he along with his accomplices have made 100s of fake passports and facilitated movement of Bangladeshi nationals to foreign countries through India,' an ED official said. In the document, he was referred to as Ahammed Hossain Azad, son of Mumtaz-Ul-Haque, a permanent resident of Pakistan. On the other hand, his current documents claim his father's name to be Mona Mallik, a Bangladeshi national. Azad used his forged Bangladeshi identity to hide his Pakistani identity and live among the Bangla-speaking population in West Bengal, sources in the agency told ThePrint. 'In order to conceal his true identity, Azad Hussain adopted the alias 'Ajad Mallik' and procured multiple Indian identity documents—including Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving licence, voter ID, and passport—by submitting forged and fabricated documents,' an agency spokesperson said Monday in a statement. Azad makes regular visits to Bangladesh to meet 'his wife and son' to keep his fake identity alive, say agency officials. The agency has also found that Azad operated a cross-border hawala network to facilitate transfer of illegal money between India and Bangladesh. For this, the agency has alleged, Azad and his accomplices used to take cash from people, deposit in into bank accounts and then transfer it to Bangladesh through platforms such as bKash. ED officials said that the investigation conducted so far found deposits amounting to more than Rs 60 crore in one of the firms managed by Azad and a conduit, who is currently absconding. 'The money has been found to be deposited in the bank accounts but further investigation is underway to identify and establish proceeds of crime in this entire module,' another official said. 'Further, Azad Hossain played a significant role in the fraudulent activities carried out at certain forex changers (FFMC) based in Kolkata, in which huge cash deposits were falsely represented as proceeds from legitimate foreign currency sales to customers but were Proceeds of Crime (POC) actually linked to unlawful practices, including the creation of fake Indian identities for Bangladeshi individuals to obtain passports,' said the ED spokesperson.
