Egyptian, Ugandan Presidents open business forum to boost trade
The forum was held during Museveni's official visit to Egypt.
'Egypt sees Uganda as a key partner in the southern Nile Basin region, and we seek for Uganda to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of Egyptian mechanisms dedicated to supporting development in Nile Basin countries,' Al-Sisi said in his address to the forum.
'We look forward to raising the level of economic cooperation and increasing the volume of trade exchange, which reached about $133m in 2024, and we aspire to double it to reflect our shared potential,' he added.
Al-Sisi stressed the importance of intensifying the exchange of business delegations and encouraging companies in both countries to increase their exports, particularly in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, building materials, and electrical appliances.
The forum's opening session included speeches by Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El Khatib, and Uganda's Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Mwebesa Francis. A documentary film on the historical bilateral relations between the two countries was also screened.
Al-Sisi described the forum as a practical step to translate strong political relations into tangible projects that benefit both nations.
'We are convinced that the private sector and entrepreneurs in our two countries must be the real engine of our partnership in the fields of economy, trade, and investment, and that the role of governments is to provide the supportive legal and political frameworks for these partnerships to flourish,' the Egyptian president said.
'I reaffirm that Egypt, as it has always been, extends its hand to Uganda as a partner, brother, and friend, in a framework of mutual respect and in a way that achieves common interests,' he concluded.

Taarek Refaat Bilateral trade between Egypt and Uganda recorded a total value of $139.1 million in 2024, according to a new report released by Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). Although this figure marks a modest decline from $150.4 million in 2023, officials suggest the economic relations remains robust, with targeted sectoral growth offsetting some of the shortfalls. Egyptian exports to Uganda reached $112.8 million in 2024, down slightly from $116.7 million in 2023, yet still dominated by key industrial and consumer goods. Leading the export list were: Iron and steel products: $35 million Plastics and plastic goods: $12 million Sugar and confectionery: $8 million Prepared cereals: $7 million Pharmaceutical products: $6 million These figures reflect Egypt's strategic push to expand its industrial footprint in African markets, particularly in East Africa. Ugandan exports to Egypt amounted to $26.3 million in 2024, compared to $33.7 million the previous year. The primary imports from Uganda included: Dairy products: $10 million Coffee, tea, and spices: $10 million Tobacco: $6 million The trade balance remains heavily in Egypt's favor, highlighting the need for more diversified and value-added exports from Uganda. The flow of remittances also saw changes in 2024. Remittances from Egyptians working in Uganda totaled $4.1 million for the fiscal year 2023/24, a slight decrease from $4.8 million in the previous year. Meanwhile, remittances from Ugandans working in Egypt rose to $1 million, up from $706,000. Investment trends were mixed. Ugandan investments in Egypt dropped significantly to $1.9 million in FY 2023/24, compared to $8.4 million the previous year. Conversely, Egyptian investments in Uganda saw a mild uptick, rising to $3.3 million from $2.9 million. According to CAPMAS, Egypt's population reached 107.9 million by August 2025, while Uganda recorded a population of 51.5 million during the same period. These demographics signal potential market expansion and labor mobility opportunities between the two countries. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

UEFA pledges new humanitarian aid for Gaza children: A Salah effect? asks British journalist - Talents Abroad
A prominent British football writer has questioned whether UEFA's announcement of new partnerships with humanitarian organisations to support children in Gaza is a response to Egyptian star Mohamed Salah's post condemning the killing of former Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza as he awaited aid. The UEFA Foundation for Children said on Tuesday it will work with Médecins du Monde, Médecins Sans Frontières and Handicap International to deliver medical care, psychosocial support, food kits and education on the dangers of explosive remnants to children affected by the war. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin said the move was part of a wider mission to help young people in conflict zones, adding: 'Children are innocent… we must do what we can to help those who are trying to make life more tolerable and normal for them.' Henry Winter, a prominent British football writer, asked whether the move was a response to Salah's pointed remarks, writing on X: 'The Salah effect? UEFA establishes partnerships with Médecins du Monde, Médecins Sans Frontières and Handicap International… providing vital humanitarian help for the children of Gaza, who are enduring what UN Secretary General António Guterres has described as 'a humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions'.' The Salah effect? On Sunday, Salah, the Liverpool and Egypt forward, reposted UEFA's brief condolence message on X to his 19.4 million followers, asking: 'Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?' The message was in tribute to Al-Obeid, known as the 'Palestinian Pele,' who, according to the Palestine Football Association (PFA), was killed last week in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza. Al-Obeid, 41, scored more than 100 goals in his career and earned 24 caps for Palestine. The PFA says 421 footballers, including 103 children, have been killed or died from starvation in Gaza since the war began, with 288 sports facilities damaged or destroyed. UEFA said its new Gaza-focused aid will run alongside existing projects in other conflict areas including Ukraine, Sudan, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan.
