SEC issues decision to form Police Judicial Council in Sharjah
The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC).
The Council discussed a number of topics related to monitoring the performance of local departments and authorities, with the aim of ensuring the highest quality of services provided to the community across various sectors.
The Council issued a decision regarding the formation of the Police Judicial Council in the Emirate of Sharjah, chaired by Brigadier General Omar Ahmed Sultan Bu Alzoud, with membership of Brigadier General Faisal Ibrahim Al Sheikh Nassar, Brigadier General Dr. Muqarrab Khalifa Abdullah Al Muqarrab, Brigadier General Amer Amin Mohammed Al Harmoudi, Brigadier General Abdulrahman Mohammed bin Ashour, Brigadier General Humaid Abdullah Al Musharrakh, Lieutenant Colonel Obaid Obaid Al Kindi, and Captain Saeed Obaid Mohammed Al Naqbi.
The Council approved the general organisational structure of the Sharjah Archives, supporting the department's functions and responsibilities in line with its mandate. This step comes as part of the ongoing development of organisational frameworks and governance across various government entities. The Council also directed its General Secretariat to complete the legislative procedures required for implementation.
The Council reviewed the 2024 annual report of the Sharjah Noble Quran and Sunnah Establishment, which highlighted the institution's key achievements and efforts over the past year. The report detailed the main programmes and activities that support the Establishment's strategy and objectives, including its mission to strengthen the role of the mosque and enhance the skills of Quran memorisers across Sharjah.
The report noted that the number of Quran tutors reached 1,179 male and female instructors, with 1,465 Quranic circles serving 32,636 male and female students. Additionally, there are 24 Iqraa circles with 249 participants specialising in granting the connected sanad (chain of narration) to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. The report also showcased joint initiatives with various government, educational, academic, and correctional institutions across the cities and regions of the Emirate.
The Council extended its sincere thanks and appreciation to the Sharjah Noble Quran and Sunnah Establishment for its blessed efforts in serving the Holy Quran and promoting Islamic values. It praised the Establishment's role in embedding the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah within society through its impactful programmes and distinguished initiatives.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed arrives in Moscow for talks with Putin

Sheikh Mohamed was welcomed with full ceremonial honours at Vnukovo Airport, where the national anthems of both nations were played and a military honour guard stood in attendance. The UAE president is accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior officials. He is expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin focusing on bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and other areas of mutual interest. The visit follows a series of diplomatic engagements between the two countries, including a phone call between Sheikh Mohamed and Putin in June that addressed de-escalation efforts in the Middle East. Shortly after, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed met the Russian leader in Minsk on the sidelines of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. According to official data, bilateral trade between Russia and the UAE reached $9.5 billion in 2024, with Russia exporting gold, diamonds, and refined petroleum, while the UAE sends goods such as broadcasting equipment and computers to the Russian market. This marks Sheikh Mohamed's first visit to Russia since October 2024, when he attended the BRICS summit in Kazan and met with Putin.

Syria signs $4bn deal with Qatar-backed consortium to rebuild Damascus Airport as regional aviation hub with 90,000 jobs
The Syrian government has signed a $4bn memorandum of understanding with an international consortium led by Qatar's UCC Holding to redevelop Damascus International Airport into one of the region's most advanced aviation hubs. The agreement, signed under the patronage of President Ahmad Al Sharaa and with the support of the Qatari government, represents one of the largest foreign investments in Syria in decades and a cornerstone of the country's post-conflict reconstruction and economic recovery strategy. The international consortium includes UCC Concessions Investments (Qatar), Assets Investments USA (USA), and Turkish giants Cengiz İnşaat, Kalyon İnşaat, and TAV Tepe Akfen. Qatar-backed consortium to develop Damascus Airport in Syria The deal was signed in Damascus in the presence of senior Syrian officials, diplomats, and US Special Envoy Tom Barrack. The project will be delivered in five Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) phases, aiming to increase the airport's capacity to: 6m passengers in the first year 16m by the second phase 31m annually at full completion The upgraded airport will feature 32 modern gates, advanced air navigation systems, and a world-class duty-free zone with luxury retail and dining. It will adhere to ICAO and IATA standards, positioning it among the most advanced aviation facilities in the Middle East. The project will include: Up to 50km of new access roads $250m financing to acquire 10 Airbus A320 aircraft for Syrian Airlines Creation of more than 90,000 direct and indirect jobs A massive boost to trade, tourism, and local supply chains Mohammad Moataz Al-Khayyat, Chairman of UCC Holding, said the project showcases the strength of international cooperation. He said: 'This project embodies the outcome of a strategic partnership bringing together a select group of leading international companies with a unified goal: rebuilding one of Syria's most vital facilities in a way that reflects its future ambitions'. Mr. Ramez Al-Khayyat, UCC President and Group CEO, added: 'This project is not just about redeveloping Damascus International Airport; it is a strategic bridge carrying Syria toward a future of recovery and prosperity. 'We are investing in a sustainable development vision that enhances trade and tourism, connects Syria to the world at the highest standards, and stimulates economic growth and investment across all sectors. 'Leveraging Syria's strategic location and our extensive local and regional partnerships, Damascus International Airport will become a model for advanced, smart transportation projects in the region.' The consortium's track record includes some of the world's most significant aviation projects, such as: Hamad International Airport (Qatar) Istanbul New Airport (Turkey) – the world's largest Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport (Saudi Arabia) Tripoli Airport (Libya) Cairo International Airport Terminal 3 (Egypt) Sani Şener, Chairman of TAV, highlighted the economic significance: 'We view this project as a strategic investment opportunity that goes beyond infrastructure development.
