Mother, daughter among three killed in house collapses in Kaushambi district
In Bahadurpur village of Manjhanpur tehsil, a kutcha house collapsed on Sunday, killing a woman and her daughter, while a second daughter remains in critical condition. In a separate incident in Mujahidpur, Chail tehsil, an elderly woman died after her kutcha house caved in.
According to reports, Maharajdin Raidas, a resident of Bahadurpur and a daily wage labourer, lived with his family in a kutcha house. On Sunday morning, while he was away for work, the house collapsed due to heavy rain. His wife, Prema Devi (55), and daughters, Sadhna (19) and Aradhana (17), were buried under the debris and sustained injuries.
Upon receiving information, tehsil officials arrived at the scene and cleared the debris using a JCB to rescue the trapped victims. All three were rushed to the district hospital, where Prema Devi and her daughter Sadhna succumbed to their injuries. Aradhana remains in critical condition. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
In another incident, 60-year-old Lakshmi Devi, wife of Laxman Kumar from Mujahidpur village in Chail tehsil, was buried under debris when her house collapsed on Sunday morning. She died on the spot, and her family cremated the body without informing the police or conducting a post-mortem.
The family members of the mother and daughter from Bahadurpur who died after being buried under the debris will be given four lakh rupees each from the Natural Disaster Fund. Manjhanpur SDM MP Verma said that the process of providing financial help will be started as soon as the PM report comes. At the same time, the post-mortem of the old woman from Mujahidpur had not been done. Hence her family would not get compensation.
The family of the mother and daughter who died in Bahadurpur will receive ₹4 lakh each from the Natural Disaster Fund. Manjhanpur SDM MP Verma said the process for financial assistance will begin once the post-mortem report is received. However, since no post-mortem was conducted for the elderly woman from Mujahidpur, her family will not be eligible for compensation, he added.
Kaushambi district magistrate Madhusudan Hulgi confirmed that the families of those who died in kutcha house collapses will receive ₹4 lakh each from the Natural Disaster Fund, but a post-mortem is required. Instructions have been issued to officials accordingly.

A 24-year-old engineer from Mumbai was killed late on Monday night after his car was crushed between two trucks near Hero Honda Chowk, police said on Tuesday. The mangled remains of the car. Police said Verma was driving his Wagon-R towards home when the accident took place in front of the Hero MotoCorp factory in Sector 33 between 11.30pm and 11.45pm. The deceased was originally from Back Bay Reclamation in Marine Lines, Mumbai. Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer of Gurugram police, said a truck was moving ahead of Verma's vehicle, while a dumper loaded with soil was at least 100–150 metres behind. 'The truck in front suddenly applied brakes, forcing Verma to slow down. However, the speeding dumper trailing the Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R failed to stop and rammed the car, crushing it between both the heavy vehicles. Verma was killed instantly at the spot,' he said. Kumar said the impact was so severe that it took more than one and half hours to cut through the mangled remains of the car to extricate the mutilated body. 'The drivers of the dumper and the truck had fled the spot, abandoning the vehicles. They will be traced and arrested soon. All vehicles were seized and taken to the Gurugram Sadar police station,' he added. Police said commuters informed the control room immediately after the crash, and emergency response vehicles reached the spot, but rescuers were delayed by the wreckage's condition. On the complaint of Verma's father, police registered an FIR against the unidentified dumper and truck drivers under sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage to the amount of ₹20,000 and more but less than ₹1 lakh) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Gurugram Sadar police station on Tuesday. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy.

Rs 15 crore bank heist: Hunt for robbers enters second day
Jabalpur: A day after a Rs 15 crore daylight robbery at a private bank in Khitola, police teams are yet to track down the culprits. Over 20 teams have been deployed across the region, but the gang remains at large. Jabalpur range IG Pramod Verma visited the ESAF Small Finance Bank branch on Tuesday to review the investigation. The robbery took place around 8.50 am on Monday, when three helmeted men entered the branch under Khitola police station limits. Only four employees were inside. Two robbers threatened staff at gunpoint, while the third went straight to the locker room. Within 20 minutes, they had seized about 15 kg of gold and Rs 5 lakh in cash. Two accomplices waited outside on motorcycles, and the group split up to escape in different directions. IG Verma said CCTV footage from the bank and along the escape routes was being analysed. "Over 20 teams are working on the case. All district borders have been sealed. The modus operandi appears similar to the Nov 26, 2022, robbery at a Manappuram Gold Loan branch in Katni, which was later traced to an interstate gang," he said. Jabalpur DIG Atul Singh said the suspects headed via highway routes towards Majholi–Indrana, where they changed clothes before vanishing from camera range. "We have key leads from CCTV and will nab them soon," Singh told TOI. Sources said the case has triggered speculation that an organised gang from outside the state may be involved, given the precision, speed, and similarity to past high-profile gold loan robberies in the region. The branch had no security guard, making it a soft target. A source say the timing and execution — hitting a branch without guards, right after holidays when roads are relatively empty — mirror the 2022 Katni robbery. In that case, masked gunmen stormed the Manappuram Gold Loan branch in Bargawan, and looted 16 kg of gold and Rs 3 lakh in minutes. Police bust gang stealing mobiles, laptops in Jaipur
Jaipur: City's Mansarovar police have busted a gang involved in stealing mobiles and laptops, recovering stolen property worth about Rs 25 lakh, DCP (south) Rajarshi Raj Varma said Monday. Varma said the action followed reports of a rise in early morning thefts targeting houses that were open. A special team was formed under additional DCP Lalit Sharma and Mansarovar SHO Lakhan Singh Khatana, with officers keeping close surveillance on suspects with prior criminal records. On Aug 9, Sunil Bhardwaj had lodged a complaint that two youths entered his house while the family was asleep and stole two mobile phones, a laptop, and Rs 25,000 in cash. SHO Kharana said CCTV footage was examined and informants were deployed to identify the culprits. On the night of Aug 10, during patrol, police detained a man named Premveer with four stolen mobiles. The next day, a patrol team recovered a suspicious CD Deluxe motorcycle. Acting on a tip-off later that day, police raided a location in Hussain Colony near Power House in Sadar police station area and seized two mobiles and a laptop. Further searches yielded 10 laptops, three tablets, 29 mobiles, and various accessories. Khatana identified the arrested men as Paramveer and Mahendra Bairwa. He said the duo was invovled in nearly 100 cases of theft.
