'We've matured. Things are different now': Bhuvneshwar Kumar on how Virat Kohli has changed over the years
NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and India pacer
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
has seen plenty of change in
Virat Kohli
— both as a cricketer and as a person. Fresh from playing a pivotal role in RCB's historic
IPL
2025 triumph, the 35-year-old opened up on how his conversations with the star batter have shifted from playful banter to family matters.

Poll
Do you believe that personal relationships affect team performance?
Yes, they enhance performance
No, they do not matter
It depends on the individuals
'Things are different now. When we meet these days, we talk more about family or off-the-ground matters because everyone has a family now. We talk about how we are doing in life other than cricket. Earlier, when we weren't married and were younger, it was more about the usual fun and jokes boys have.
So that's where the change has come,' Bhuvneshwar said.
On the field, however, he insisted professionalism remains the driving force. 'We never really need that bond to perform well. If RCB has picked me, Virat, or any other player, they want us to perform regardless of friendship. Everyone knows what they have to do on the ground. But off the ground, of course, things have changed. We've matured, we've grown older, so now the conversations are different,' he added.
Bhuvneshwar enjoyed a strong season, taking 17 wickets in 14 matches, while Kohli amassed 657 runs in 15 innings. The pacer also lauded
Rajat Patidar
's leadership during RCB's title-winning run.
'The best part was that since it was such an experienced team, Rajat didn't have to do much. Where leadership was needed, he took decisions without hesitation. That's a quality — knowing when to step in and when to let things be,' Bhuvneshwar said.
He credited RCB's balanced contributions for breaking their 18-year title drought. 'This time, the biggest difference was that all players in the XI won matches at different times, in different situations. You can't win a big tournament relying on just one or two players. Bowlers stepped up in some games, batters in others. In every stage, a new player emerged to win it for us,' he concluded.

Steven Nelson doubts Jalen Ramsey's 2025 performance; predicts WRs will dominate Steelers' star cornerback
Steven Nelson doubts Jalen Ramsey's 2025 performance (Image via: Getty Images) Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson isn't buying into Jalen Ramsey's hype for the 2025 NFL season. Nelson, who played for the Steelers from 2019-2020, took to Instagram to openly predict that Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowler, will struggle in coverage this year. His bold claim is that wide receivers matched against Ramsey will have standout performances. Former Steelers CB Steven Nelson questions Jalen Ramsey's 2025 NFL performance Nelson's prediction comes shortly after Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated that Ramsey would cover the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' top receiver, Mike Evans, during a joint practice. Tomlin's remarks seemed to position Ramsey as the Steelers' CB1 over veterans Darius Slay and Joey Porter Jr. 'Jalen's going to get it. Some people may hate it, and I love that competitive spirit… but I think it's already been decided,' Tomlin said, confirming Ramsey's top role. Despite Tomlin's endorsement, Nelson wasn't impressed. 'Easy money,' Nelson wrote on Instagram, urging fans to 'take the over' on the wide receivers Ramsey guards. Nelson's comments reflect skepticism about Ramsey's ability to consistently shut down elite receivers, especially after reports from Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times highlighted that Evans 'won most of his battles with Steelers CB Jalen Ramsey' during practice. Steelers' 2025 cornerback strategy: How Jalen Ramsey's role could impact performance The Steelers' cornerback deployment remains a topic of speculation. Ramsey has experience playing in the slot, but with Tomlin's suggestion that he will follow the opposing team's No. 1 receiver, Ramsey could be asked to cover a variety of targets all over the field. How this strategy will impact his 2025 performance remains uncertain, especially given the high expectations surrounding him. Steven Nelson calls out Ramsey for 2025 Also Read: Matt Breida says no to Dolphins interest, ignites retirement talk at just 30 Nelson, who retired in 2024 after stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans, isn't the only one questioning Jalen Ramsey's consistency. With the 2025 NFL season approaching, all eyes will be on how Ramsey adapts to the Steelers' cornerback strategy and whether he can live up to his Pro Bowl reputation. His ability to cover top receivers across the field will be a key factor in Pittsburgh's defensive success. How Ramsey performs in this versatile role could shape the Steelers' pass defense for the entire season. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

Virat Kohli deserved support at first, not if slump lasts for 5 years: Irfan Pathan
Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan believes Virat Kohli deserved support during his first slump in form, given his past contributions, but says continued backing in a later career dip came at the cost of the dominated Test cricket between 2016 and 2019, scoring 4,208 runs in 43 matches at an average of 66.79, including 16 centuries and 10 fifties. During this period, he established himself as one of the best batters in the world while also leading India as his form began to decline in the years that followed. Between 2020 and 2022, Kohli went three years without a Test century — a stark contrast to his peak years. Pathan said Kohli merited support when the slump began but argued that patience should not have stretched over several years. "Virat Kohli had a slump in 2019-2020. You can see my social media of that time — I backed Kohli a lot," Pathan told Lallantop. "I feel that when a big player faces his first slump, he should be backed. He deserves it too, because he won many matches for the team. But if this slump lasts for five years, then it is not right. In the end, the team is the most important."Pathan also highlighted Kohli's repeated dismissals outside the off-stump as a technical flaw that should have been addressed more thoroughly."When a player gets out in the same way, the opposing team will get you out with Plan A itself. They will not need to go to Plan B. It is the job of a champion player to take you from Plan A to Plan B," he explained."The problem with Virat Kohli in Test cricket was that he was getting out in the same manner continuously. This does not mean that he is a bad player. He is a great player. But what is happening is also true. We have to tell what is happening, with details."Kohli had even displayed technical concerns when playing spin as seen during the 2024 home Test series against New Zealand. He was even asked to go back and play Ranji Trophy cricket but failed to make much of an impact in the one-off appearance he had for Delhi. Kohli recently retired from Test cricket after India's tour of Australia. His international appearances are now limited to one-day cricket, and it remains uncertain whether he will continue in the format for long or opt to end his career entirely in the near future.- EndsTune InMust Watch
