Gethin Jones issues work update as he says he's 'pretty excited'
The Cardiff presenter has had some time away from the TV and social media, but he's updated fans when he'll be back

TV presenter Gethin Jones is due to return to our TV screens on a (mostly) daily basis this week after an extended break from Morning Live. The morning show has been off air for a prolonged Easter break since April 11 and but is due to air live once again from tomorrow, May 6.
Gethin shared a short video to his Instagram which showed him and co-host, Michelle Ackerley jigging around to the opening bars of Marvin Gaye's Heard it Through the Grapevine in anticipation of the show's return. He wrote alongside it: "Me and @michelle_ackerley pretty excited to be back with you on @bbcmorninglive tmrw!!" Before detailing what was on the cards for the opener of what will be the seventh series of the morning magazine.

Since the show has been off air Gethin has been enjoying time away from screens big and small and jetting off to the USA where he visited Chicago.
In a post documenting his trip to Illinois he noted it was the 44th state he'd visited and joked he was "One step closer to 'completing' America."

We hope he sampled some deep dish pizza and a Chicago hot dog while he was in the Windy City - but he did tick one massive cultural box with a visit to a blues bar. Nice.
Also during his time off Gethin took the opportunity to get on two wheels, this time of the road bike kind, to cycle alongside pal Sir Chris Hoy.
Hoy showed off his impressive cycling skills as he blew away Gethin and his friends during an "epic day" in Wales.
The 49-year-old was back on his bike but swapped the velodrome for a muddy trail as he joined a group of friends for a day of mountain biking at One Planet Adventure in Llandegla, Denbighshire.
As well as the Morning Live host Jones, Hoy was joined by presenter OJ Borg, former Olympic cyclists Philip Hindes and Rob Hayles.
The six-time Olympic champion, who was first diagnosed with cancer in September 2023, revealed in October last year that his condition was terminal.

A scan found primary cancer in his prostate which had metastasised to his bones including his shoulder, pelvis, ribs and spine, with doctors giving him between two and four years left to live.

Buckingham Palace has been lauded for the "best response ever" to Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo's controversial video in which they seem to mock Meghan Markle. Sophie, who is pregnant, appears to twerk in the clip Jamie posted on Instagram to mixed reaction yesterday. Many on social media suggested the couple, who got married in April 2023, were trying to recreate Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's incredible "twerking" video shot moments before the Duchess of Sussex gave birth in hospital. Within minutes of Jamie uploading his footage, purportedly shot inside Buckingham Palace, the official Instagram account "theroyalfamily" replied: "We see you" with a pair of eyes and a wink emojis. The King's Trust also entered the conversation in the spirit of the occasion, saying: 'All of our attendees are very well behaved' with the same look and a laughing emoji. Responding to theroyalfamily's post, one Jamie fan wrote: "best response ever! This really made me laugh." Another said: "Brilliant," tagging the account to their reply. However, some Instagram users aimed fire at Jamie, who now hosts a show on BBC Radio One, calling the dig "disrespectful". The 36-year-old star, who was in Made in Chelsea from 2011 to 2020, is seen dancing alongside Sophie in what appears to be Buckingham Palace. His moves appear to replicate those briefly seen by Prince Harry in Meghan's clip, which became public earlier this month. The words "The Royal Baby has arrived" are written overlay to the clip, liked by more than 50,000 people on Instagram. Yet one viewer on there replied: "Disrespectful," to which she got seven likes. Another Instagram user shared: "Diabolical behaviour." A third critic posted: "Quite disappointing. I like you guys normally." Other celebs posted replies too. Kerry Villers, who is a social media influencer, said: "I feel like you can see Jamie's excitement to become a dad in his face and it's pure joy." TV presenter and former member of The Saturdays, Rochelle Humes, shared her own experience trying to sneak a photo in Buckingham Palace. The mum of three wrote: "The speed that this happened is genuinely impressive. I just about got mine in focus for a sneaky pic." Sophie, who was in Made in Chelsea from 2017 to 2022, smiles playfully in the clip as she dances alongside her husband. The pair, stood on the red-carpeted gliding staircase, are flanked by portraits of members of the royal family in the video. Royal aides seemingly found the funny side, although it would have breached protocol. Proof that no offence was taken, a palace aide told the Daily Mail: "I'm sure it was done in a spirit of fun, and of course aligned to Jamie's wonderful support for The King's Trust Awards - even if it's not something we would greatly encourage every guest to attempt." Jamie had attended a reception at Buckingham Palace yesterday alongside the likes of George and Amal Clooney to highlight The King's Trust's annual awards for some of the charity's greatest success stories.

Television people famously worry about working with children and animals. But that's nothing compared with the dangers of a presenter's mum loose in front of the camera. Minutes into Amol Rajan Goes To The Ganges (BBC1), his mother was gleefully recalling: 'You were very chubby, Amol. Pleasantly plump, I would say.' Thanks, Mum. As a child, Amol's role models were all white: people like cricketer Shane Warne and philosopher Bertrand Russell. (Oh come on, which teenager doesn't have a picture of Bertrand on their bedroom wall?) The only Indian who inspired him was his father, a bank official who died three years ago. Since then, the Radio 4 Today presenter and University Challenge host hasn't been quite the same: 'I've been in a bit of a funk.' In part to heal his grief, but mainly because the BBC suggested it, Amol flew to India to attend the Hindu festival of Kumbh Mela, a huge gathering of pilgrims on the banks of the Ganges. And I mean huge. During one day, around 70 million people — roughly the population of the UK — squeezed into just 15 square miles. They included what is surely the world's largest collection of thin, old men with very long beards. Not to mention sacred warriors, naked apart from a coating of ash, and lots of people dressed in orange, which represents fire. As Amol pushed his way through crowds, he was greeted with shouts of 'Praise be to the Lord Ram!' and 'Victory to Lord Shiva'. It was like watching a good-natured football crowd heading for the world's biggest cup final. The idea was that Amol would join pilgrims in bathing in the sacred river. He would connect with his religious heritage, even though he describes himself as an atheist, and somehow heal his grief. Unfortunately, events got in the way. He and his party were stopped before they could reach the holiest point of the river, the confluence of the Ganges and the Yamuna river. There had been a stampede, just 800m away. Ninety people were injured, and 30 were killed. So Amol had to improvise. This might sound odd if you're not a Hindu, but he took part in a ceremony in which oatmeal balls represented the souls of his ancestors. He mixed the balls into a mash, and took this to the river. 'I am now going to release the sacred oatmeal into the water,' he said solemnly. In the river, he ritually released his father's soul before immersing himself in the water. 'I'm as high as a kite,' he admitted. 'I can feel the cosmic energy flowing through me right now.' It was rather moving, but I couldn't help thinking that if anybody had told tough-talking interviewer Amol that they were full of cosmic energy, he would have rolled his eyes to camera.

Known as the notorious 'Strictly Super Spoiler', he has ruining the family favourite BBC dance show for over a decade by revealing the outcome of the dreaded 'dance-off' before Sunday night's results show. Despite calls to stop spoiling the fun for Strictly's loyal fanbase, 45-year-old David Thorp remains undeterred and is set to continue sabotaging the 2025 series, which starts in September. But now MailOnline can reveal exactly why the software engineer student, who lives in a £70,000 semi-detached home in Preston, Lancs, won't stop sharing the results on his website anytime soon - and it's all down to money. Thorp is earning an astonishing £5,000 per month leaking results from the BBC1 show - which is more than some of the celebrity contestants are being paid to take part in the TV juggernaut. Sources close to Thorp have told Mailonline he has a mole within the Strictly camp who secretly informs him of the outcome of the results show, which is filmed after the live main show on Saturday evening, but airs 24 hours later. Cast, crew and audience members are sworn to secrecy not to reveal the result before the show airs, but Thorp's insider continues to tell him which celebrity and dance partner is going home. The insider also revealed Thorp's money-making scheme looks set to continue as Strictly have not made any moves to shut his websites down - or threaten any sort of retribution for spoiling the show. A friend told Mailonline: 'The money Thorp is making from giving away the Strictly results is ridiculous. Thorp is earning an astonishing £5,000 per month leaking results from the BBC1 show - which is more than some of the celebrity contestants are being paid to take part in the TV juggernaut. The source continued: 'He has someone involved on the show leaking him the results and Strictly have no clue who it is. 'They used to think it was audience members but Thorp still found out which celebrities had been voted out during the lockdown series, which was filmed at Elstree Studios without an audience.' 'But bosses don't seem too concerned as they haven't tried to stop him. 'He's had no legal threats or even just a polite request to stop spoiling the result. 'So I imagine he'll just keep on going.' The BBC declined to comment when asked by MailOnline if they have attempted to stop him from leaking the result. But a show insider admitted the weekly spoiler is incredibly infuriating for all those concerned with the show. The insider said: 'It just ruins it for everyone. 'It's obviously a huge part of Strictly, the actual competition aspect, and viewers love the jeopardy of whether or not their favourite dancers will remain on the show. 'And the BBC appreciate it also affects the viewing figures, as some fans won't tune it if they already know who's leaving. 'But they seem powerless in stopping the Strictly super spoiler - and clearly have no idea who the leak is. 'So this is going to run and run unfortunately.' The insider added: 'Changing the format to just one big show would end the result being ruined but there's not a change that will be happening. 'Strictly is so huge it would leave a gapping hole in Sunday's schedule if they didn't have a dedicated results episode. 'That's why bosses insist on having a big music act performing to ensure so the Sunday show remains a big spectacle - hoping those who know the outcome may still tune it.' MailOnline revealed in 2022 the identity of the 'Strictly super spoiler', who has been publishing the identity of the axed pairings on his website Strictly Spoiler every Saturday evening since 2012. Thorp, who's married to wife Angie, 31, insists he's not taking the fun out of the show, saying there's 'appetite' for viewers to know the result as soon as it's available. And he also blames the BBC for not doing two live shows, to prevent leaks from happening. Thorp told MailOnline: 'I'm just providing a service and am not spoiling anyone's enjoyment. 'I don't put the results for everyone to see and they have to search for my site to find out the results. 'There is an appetite from people who want to know the results before Sunday. 'It could be argued that the BBC is to blame for recording something which is of massive interest the day before.' Thorp claims he doesn't have one ''source' and he learns the result each week from various audience members, despite what insiders say. He explains: 'I find out the result by audience members there on the night contacting me or from the other strictly spoiler sites around.' Thorp has also garnered over 50,000 followers on X and over 7,000 on Instagram. His website is now being used for advertisement, which is how he pulls in the money, and fans that interact with him about the show have a chance of winning a £20 Amazon voucher. He said: 'People would contact me, and I would direct message them the results but so many people began asking I had to put it on a website I was operating. 'It just got bigger and bigger, and I have around 400,000 people viewing the website each week. 'I send out a link on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and people have to actively click on the link.
