Shikhar Dhawan set to host ‘Beyond the Boundaries' at Lord's

Hans India7 days ago
New Delhi: Veteran India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan is set to make a memorable return to Lord's — not with bat in hand, but as the driving force behind a landmark event titled 'Beyond the Boundaries', scheduled for July 23.
The evening promises to be a unique convergence of sport, purpose, and storytelling at one of cricket's most iconic venues.
Announced via a video on Dhawan's official social media handles, the event is being framed as more than just a celebration — it's a movement. In the video, Dhawan speaks directly to his fans:
'Aur ab meri baari hai ki main woh pyaar aur support return kar paaun.'
The accompanying caption reads: 'Some celebrations aren't about the spotlight, they're about lighting the way for something greater. Beyond The Boundary at Lord's is exactly that, where purpose meets passion, and real stories spark real change. July 23rd. A night to remember why we began. Let's come together for something bigger. Let's go beyond the boundary.'
The initiative is being led by Da One Group, the social impact and sports development venture founded by Dhawan. Over the years, the organization has championed grassroots sports, youth empowerment, and community development, both in India and internationally. This event at Lord's is set to spotlight those efforts and share the real-life stories that continue to inspire their mission.
While the guest list remains under wraps, sources suggest that a number of Dhawan's current and former teammates — along with global cricketing icons — are likely to be in attendance.
Shikhar's career includes several significant achievements, such as being the Player of the Tournament in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and amassing over 6,793 runs in ODIs at an impressive average of 44.1. He scored 1759 runs in T20I for India at a strike rate of 91.35.
His contributions to the Indian cricket team and the Indian Premier League (IPL) have solidified his status as a cricketing icon. In his career spanning over a decade, he played 269 matches scoring 10,867 runs at an average of 40.

Centre to table Sports Bill today; BCCI to come under govt purview

The government is set to introduce the much-anticipated National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The bill aims to establish a legal framework that promotes accountability, transparency, and fairness in the operation of National Sports Federations (NSFs). It also aims to protect the interests of athletes by setting up robust grievance redressal and safe sport mechanisms. Ensuring better governance and dispute resolution The primary objectives of the bill include enhancing the welfare of sportspersons, enforcing ethical standards, and laying down clear governance norms for NSFs. It proposes administrative reforms and a system to resolve disputes through institutional processes rather than ad hoc interventions. A key feature of the legislation is the inclusion of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under its jurisdiction. Once the bill is enacted, the BCCI will need to apply for annual recognition just like any other NSF. Additionally, all ongoing and future disputes involving the cricket board will be handled by the soon-to-be-established National Sports Tribunal. After completing its elections in September, the BCCI will have to seek approval from the proposed National Sports Board to continue operating. Even though the cricket body doesn't receive government funding, it will still have to comply with the norms set under the law. Central tribunal to handle all federation disputes The BCCI, like other federations, will be bound by the eligibility requirements outlined in the Act. Despite its autonomy, the board will no longer be able to approach regular courts for litigation. Instead, all disputes — from team selection issues to code of conduct violations — will be handled by a central tribunal, which is expected to improve transparency and streamline governance in Indian sports. Separating facts from misconceptions The bill has also been designed to clear up misconceptions about excessive government control. A ministry representative clarified that while the government will not interfere in the day-to-day functioning of federations, the law will enforce minimum governance standards to ensure accountability. Age and tenure rules with built-in flexibility Recognising existing leadership structures, the bill allows some flexibility in terms of age and tenure. For instance, any office-bearer who is elected before turning 70 can complete their full term, even if they cross the age threshold during that period. However, the bill introduces a mandatory cooling-off period between two consecutive terms for key positions such as president, secretary, and treasurer. Each term cannot exceed four years, with a maximum of three terms allowed. The legislation targets ten major problems that have plagued Indian sports governance: Frequent internal conflicts Absence of a unified code of ethics No independent dispute resolution mechanism Inadequate protection for athletes Gender imbalance in leadership roles Poor representation within federations Limited accountability of office-bearers No fixed age or term limits Under-representation of women No legal framework for sportswomen to complete registration processes To align Indian standards with global practices, the bill draws on provisions from the IOC, FIFA, and other international federations. In cricket, the Justice Lodha Committee's recommendations — including the 70-year age cap for BCCI office-bearers — have been adopted. As a result, current BCCI president Roger Binny, who recently turned 70, will no longer be eligible to seek another term. In addition to the sports governance bill, the government will also introduce the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The goal is to update the 2022 legislation to meet the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards and ensure the independence of both the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP) and the Appeals Panel (ADAP).

Always a gun fielder during his playing career, the South African helped his team also pull off a stunning catch of Yusuf Pathan to break India's back. With the team reeling on 44/4, India needed Yusuf Pathan to stitch a solid partnership with Stuart Binny, who scored 37 not out off 39. IND vs ENG 4th Test Preview, Head-To-Head At Old Trafford, Stats, Playing XIs & Key Battles

The battle lines are drawn, the stakes couldn't be higher, and the ghosts of Manchester loom large. As India take on England in the fourth Test of the five-match series at Old Trafford on Wednesday, the equation is simple — win or watch the series slip away. Trailing 1-2, India not only need to break their long-standing winless streak at Old Trafford but also overcome a growing injury crisis that has thinned their pace bowling reserves. With Akash Deep ruled out and Arshdeep Singh nursing a hand injury, uncapped pacer Anshul Kamboj might be handed a dream debut. Captain Shubman Gill, speaking on the eve of the match, emphasized confidence in the bench strength, stating, 'We have enough quality to get 20 wickets.' Old Trafford: A Graveyard for Indian Test Hopes The numbers don't lie. India have played nine Tests at Old Trafford — lost four, drawn five, and never won. The last time India played here in 2014, they suffered an innings defeat under MS Dhoni's leadership. The only Indian century at this ground? That came from the bat of a young Sachin Tendulkar in 1990. England, on the other hand, have made Old Trafford a fortress. Of the 84 Tests they've played here, they've won 33 — including 14 out of 20 since 2000. Chris Woakes and Joe Root have enjoyed personal success at the venue, with Woakes averaging under 18 with the ball and Root scoring nearly 1,000 runs. Standout Performers: Series Heroes So Far Shubman Gill – India's Run Machine Leading from the front, Gill has been nothing short of spectacular. With 607 runs in six innings at an eye-watering average of 101.16, his double hundred at Edgbaston has already become the stuff of legend. Now, 105 runs away from becoming India's highest run-getter in a Test series against England, Gill carries the hopes of a billion fans on his shoulders. Rishabh Pant – The Grit Factor Despite a painful finger blow, Pant has amassed 425 runs at 70.83, showing trademark flair and resilience. His ability to counterattack under pressure could be India's X-factor in Manchester. Jamie Smith – England's Breakout Star England's wicketkeeper Jamie Smith has taken the series by storm, scoring 415 runs at 103.75. His 272-run masterclass in the third Test tilted the balance of the series. India must find a way to neutralize him. The Bowling Duel: Siraj, Bumrah vs Stokes, Woakes Mohammed Siraj leads the wicket charts with 13 scalps, including a fiery 6/70 spell at Edgbaston. Jasprit Bumrah, back in form, has claimed 12 wickets in just two Tests — including a fifer at Lord's that nearly turned the tide. For England, Ben Stokes has led from the front — 11 wickets and endless spells of relentless pressure. Chris Woakes has thrived in home conditions and could be England's trump card again. Historic Milestones on the Horizon Shubman Gill: Needs 66 runs to surpass Virat Kohli as India's highest-scoring Test captain vs England. Yashasvi Jaiswal: 55 runs shy of 1,000 Test runs vs England. Rishabh Pant: 127 runs away from reaching 3,500 Test runs. Ben Stokes: 109 runs short of the 7,000-run milestone in Tests. Key Head-to-Head Stats: England vs India in Tests Overall Tests: 139 | England 53 wins | India 36 wins | Draws 50 At Old Trafford: 9 Tests | England 4 wins | India 0 | Draws 5 In England: 67 Tests | England 36 wins | India 9 wins Probable XIs: Who Takes the Field? England: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Liam Dawson, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer. India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Anshul Kamboj. What's at Stake: Legacy, Redemption, and a Series Decider For Shubman Gill's India, this Test is more than just a match — it's a battle against history, pressure, and adversity. For England, it's a golden chance to seal the series and underline their dominance at home. With a potential series decider on the cards, expect drama, brilliance, and maybe a twist or two. Can India end the Old Trafford hoodoo and script history? Or will England extend their reign at their happy hunting ground? All eyes on Manchester.
