Gaya roll revision reveals 1.5 L ineligible voters

Time of India2 days ago
Gaya: The ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Gaya district has revealed that there are 1,50,005 ineligible voters, which include 62,803 dead, 60,578 permanently transferred and 26,824 having double entry.
The data, based on the report received from the booth level officers (BLOs), was presented by district magistrate-cum-district election officer Shashank Shubhankar at a meeting with representatives of political parties at the collectorate on Friday.
The DM said, "A total of 30,95,428 enumeration forms were distributed through the BLOs out of which 28,17,758 have been received from the electors. The work of uploading 27,10,100 forms through the App has also been completed."
He added: "Total number of polling stations previously approved by the Election Commission in Gaya district is 3,262. Due to more than 1,200 voters at some places, the newly proposed polling stations are 604. After rationalisation, the number of proposed polling stations is 3,866 in 10 assembly segments in the district," he added.
The DM appealed to the representatives to activate the booth-level agents so that they can coordinate with BLOs in providing the forms to the electors, who are left out. He also received feedback and suggestions regarding the ongoing revision exercise.

Iran agrees to talks with UK, France & Germany

Synopsis The three European countries, or E3, are parties to the original nuclear agreement, formally called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which US President Donald Trump abandoned in 2018. On Friday, Axios reported that Iran and the E3 were expected to meet in Europe next week to discuss a potential agreement. Iran has reached an agreement in principle to hold talks with the UK, France and Germany over its nuclear program, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported. ADVERTISEMENT Discussions are ongoing to finalize the location, with the talks possibly taking place "next week," the report said Sunday, citing an unidentified source. On Friday, Axios reported that Iran and the E3 were expected to meet in Europe next week to discuss a potential agreement. Diplomatic efforts to revive Iran's nuclear deal have stalled since June 13, when Israel launched an attack on the country days before a planned sixth round of Oman-mediated talks between Tehran and Washington. That derailed negotiations that had begun in April. Iran was also engaged in limited parallel talks with the E3 and the European and the US have remained deadlocked over restarting their own nuclear negotiations. Iranian officials have demanded assurances against further attacks, including by the US, which joined Israel in bombing Iran's nuclear sites last month. 11,000 'not traceables' electors revealed by Bihar's SIR could be illegal immigrants

Photo: Generative AI NEW DELHI: While the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral roll in Bihar is well on track with merely 32 lakh electors left to be covered, what has caught attention is the mention of 11,000 'not traceable' electors in the latest update put out by Election Commission on Saturday. Sources told TOI that electors 'not traceable' during SIR are possibly illegal immigrants living outside Bihar but who were enrolled in the state with a possible intent to create scope for bogus votes. An EC functionary explained that 'not traceable' electors were not just not found at their recorded addresses by the booth level officers (BLOs) but never known to have lived there even by immediate neighbours. In some cases, no house or dwelling was found at these addresses. 'It is possible that they are illegal immigrants — possibly Bangladeshis or Rohingyas — who may be living in neighbouring states but somehow managed to get themselves electoral photo identity cards from Bihar, possibly due to lack of requisite checks during summary revisions or even corrupt means,' an official said, adding that this poses a risk of bogus votes being cast during elections. Nearly 41.6 lakh electors in Bihar, comprising 5.3% of its total electorate, were not found at their addresses despite three mandatory visits by BLOs; these include 14.3 lakh (1.8%) probably deceased electors, 19.7 lakh or 2.5% probably permanently shifted electors, 7.5 lakh or 0.9% electors enrolled at multiple places; and 11,000 'not traceable' electors. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cat Keeps Hugging its Friend - Then the Owner Notices Something is Wrong Tips and Tricks Undo The figure of possibly deceased electors is also intriguing, considering that their names had figured in Bihar rolls as on June 24, 2025. 'The deceased voters were never removed from the list, which creates a leeway for bogus votes. Over 41 lakh missing electors, when split across constituencies, may be larger than the victory margin in some,' said an officer, justifying the need for intensive revision of rolls to detect and correct such anomalies. Accounting for 5.3% voters not found at their addresses thus far, almost 96% of Bihar's 7.9 crore electors have turned in their enrolment forms. Nearly 88.2% of the 90.6% electors forms received so far, have been digitised.

Eknath Shinde invokes Nero to target Uddhav

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Thane, July 20 (PTI) Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday invoked Roman emperor Nero and the popular legend associated with him to target Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray. He also questioned the 'selective" criticism of the Election Commission when the opposition loses polls. 'It is strange that some individuals are celebrating when people leave their party (Shiv Sena-UBT). We haven't seen this kind of behaviour before. 'While Rome was burning, Nero was playing the fiddle'," Shinde, who heads Shiv Sena, said without naming Uddhav. He said instead of introspection, some leaders are only indulging in blame games and cursing others. 'When they got desired results in the Lok Sabha elections, they consider the Election Commission good, but when things do not go their way, they blame the system," Shinde said while addressing an event to felicitate medical entrepreneurs in Thane. He highlighted the Mahayuti government's achievements, particularly schemes for women. 'We've created historic schemes for 2.5 crore sisters. Many tried to consolidate power and booked five-star hotels and ministries in advance. But the people, especially our sisters, shattered those dreams and brought Mahayuti back to power (in 2024 elections)," he said, adding that he identifies himself as a party worker who is available 24 hours a day. Shinde also lauded the role of doctors in society, particularly during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Alluding to attacks on doctors, Shinde said the medical fraternity is the pillar of society and deserves deep respect. 'At times, unfortunate incidents occur, and despite the doctors' best efforts, lives cannot be saved. In such moments, society must act responsibly instead of targeting medical professionals", he added. Shinde recalled the struggle to arrange for Remdesivir from various places, including from abroad.
