Eknath Shinde invokes Nero to target Uddhav

Thane, July 20 (PTI) Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday invoked Roman emperor Nero and the popular legend associated with him to target Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray.
He also questioned the 'selective" criticism of the Election Commission when the opposition loses polls.
'It is strange that some individuals are celebrating when people leave their party (Shiv Sena-UBT). We haven't seen this kind of behaviour before. 'While Rome was burning, Nero was playing the fiddle'," Shinde, who heads Shiv Sena, said without naming Uddhav.
He said instead of introspection, some leaders are only indulging in blame games and cursing others.
'When they got desired results in the Lok Sabha elections, they consider the Election Commission good, but when things do not go their way, they blame the system," Shinde said while addressing an event to felicitate medical entrepreneurs in Thane.
He highlighted the Mahayuti government's achievements, particularly schemes for women.
'We've created historic schemes for 2.5 crore sisters. Many tried to consolidate power and booked five-star hotels and ministries in advance. But the people, especially our sisters, shattered those dreams and brought Mahayuti back to power (in 2024 elections)," he said, adding that he identifies himself as a party worker who is available 24 hours a day.
Shinde also lauded the role of doctors in society, particularly during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alluding to attacks on doctors, Shinde said the medical fraternity is the pillar of society and deserves deep respect.
'At times, unfortunate incidents occur, and despite the doctors' best efforts, lives cannot be saved. In such moments, society must act responsibly instead of targeting medical professionals", he added.
Shinde recalled the struggle to arrange for Remdesivir from various places, including from abroad. PTI COR NSK

Those in glass houses do not pelt stones at others' homes: Shinde slams Raut over ‘ambulance scam'
Mumbai, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday hit back at Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut for linking him and his son Shrikant Shinde to an 'ambulance scam', saying those living in glass houses do not pelt stones at others' homes. Those in glass houses do not pelt stones at others' homes: Shinde slams Raut over 'ambulance scam' Talking to reporters here, Shinde targeted the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena and said those stuck in the 'Mithi river silt scam', the ones who indulged in 'corruption' while building roads and the people involved in 'khichdi scam' were lecturing him. The alleged scams referred to by Shinde concern works carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation , which the undivided Shiv Sena had controlled for over two decades before it split in 2022. 'Those who reside in glass houses do not throw stones at others' homes. We are clean. People of Mumbai have seen them and they have looted Mumbai for 25 years. It is unfortunate that they are levelling charges against us,' he said. Raut on Friday accused the Maharashtra government of committing an 'ambulance scam' of ₹800 crore, claiming that the money involved was diverted to a foundation run by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde. The contract to procure ambulances worth ₹800 crore was awarded to Sumeet Facilities Limited. Its actual cost was ₹100 crore, but the amount was inflated, Raut had claimed. 'This is the biggest scam in medical history. Amit Salunke of Summit Facilities is the financial backbone of the Shrikant Shinde Foundation. The money was diverted to the foundation. A team of Jharkhand came to Maharashtra and arrested Amit Salunke on Thursday in a liquor scam there. He is a very close aide of Eknath Shinde and Shrikant Shinde," Raut had claimed. Whatever happened in Jharkhand will be probed by that government, Shinde said on Saturday. Summit Salunke, vice chairman of Sumeet Group Enterprises, termed Raut's allegations baseless. He said neither Amit Salunke, his family, nor Sumeet Facilities Limited has any political links. 'The PIL against the '108' Ambulance project was rightly dismissed by the Bombay High Court, which upheld the fairness of the tender process,' Summit claimed. TRF Echoes Pakistan Foreign Minister's Protest Of US Ban On Terror Outfit
Last Updated: This clearly exposes the synergy between Pakistan's diplomatic machinery and its terror proxies, said sources Hours after Pakistan's foreign minister and deputy PM Ishaq Dar expressed disagreement with the United States' ban on the TRF, the terror outfit issued a statement opposing the decision. The Resistance Front justifies its armed resistance in Jammu and Kashmir as a lawful and necessary response to what it describes as the 'unlawful Indian occupation". The TRF claims that its designation as a terrorist organisation by the United States is unjust and influenced by Indian pressure on American institutions. The group maintains it is a legitimate, local freedom movement fighting against the so-called 'Indian occupation" of Jammu and Kashmir, rejecting the terrorist label. It asserts that the US and other powers label Kashmiri groups as terrorists out of frustration. TRF's statement rejects the US decision, framing its struggle as a rightful liberation from an oppressive Indian regime. Top intelligence sources reveal that the TRF is not an indigenous movement but a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba. 'The timing of the TRF statement, issued just hours after Ishaq Dar criticised the US designation, clearly exposes the synergy between Pakistan's diplomatic machinery and its terror proxies, confirming state-sponsored narrative warfare," said a source. The TRF has been involved in targeted killings of civilians, migrant workers, and minority communities in Kashmir. This is evidenced by confessions, forensic recovery of weapons, and intercepted communications with handlers in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, said sources. Financial trails tracked via hawala and crypto channels link TRF operations to Pakistan-based facilitators, confirming that the group is part of a hybrid warfare doctrine combining terror and propaganda, they added. view comments First Published: July 26, 2025, 22:31 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Operation Sindoor to feature in NCERT lessons for Classes 3 to 12
NCERT is preparing two 'modules' on Operation Sindoor – separate publications that will not be part of the textbooks – one for classes 3 to 8, and another for classes 9 to 12, sources in the Education Ministry said. The achievements of India and the armed forces will be described in the eight to 10-page module. The aim is to make students aware of India's military power and Pakistan's defeat, sources said. The NCERT has a set of modules – short publications on specific topics – including some that were launched in May this year. The modules for classes 1 to 12 are available on the NCERT's website. Separate modules have been prepared for COVID-19 and its impact on public health and social life, 'India's digital success and power', the Chandrayaan-3 mission, the G20 summit that was held in India in 2023, and 'Swachhata'. Each module contains stories, activities, and examples that illustrate the topic, and serves as additional material, beyond the textbook, that schools can use. Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces in May, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It was launched weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. In the ongoing monsoon session, Parliament is set to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor next week.
