ESPN's Jay Harris battling prostate cancer in somber reveal
ESPN 'SportsCenter' anchor Jay Harris revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis during an appearance on 'Good Morning America' on Thursday.
'I'm having surgery on Tuesday,' Harris told 'GMA' co-anchor Michael Strahan. 'And I'll be away from 'SportsCenter' for about a month to recover. And then I'm coming back better than ever.'
Harris said his doctor is 'quite optimistic' about his prognosis.

'Per my last scan nothing has spread, so once we take out the prostate, hopefully that will be it,' Harris said. 'That's the goal.'
Harris, who said his dad had prostate cancer, explained that he wants to inspire men to openly discuss ailments and family history among themselves.
'By not talking, we sentence ourselves to death,' he added.
Harris joined ESPN in February 2003 as an 'ESPNEWS' anchor.
That May, he anchored his first 'SportsCenter' show and has been at the desk since.

In Cincy, the team broke the piggy back to keep happy their star wide receiver tandem of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, resulting in a cost of over $275 million between the two contract extensions. But left in the dust - so far, anyway - is one more star And if the Bengals can't figure out how to also keep happy their biggest defensive star, defensive end Trey Hendrickson? Maybe that's that's where the Commanders can swoop in. Hendrickson has asked for a contract extension since the start of the offseason. He is currently slated for an over $18 million cap hit in the final year of his deal. ... and there is market-based logic now that makes it clear he can ask for $30 mil per year or maybe even more.
