Supported by the Victorian Government, the Melbourne Film Festival will run from August 14 to 24. The highly anticipated awards night will take place on August 15.
The winners will be selected by an esteemed jury comprising some of the most respected names in Australian cinema and cultural landscape, including Garth Davis, director of Dev Patel- Nicole Kidman's 'LION', Theatre Director and Film Producer, Nadia Tass.
With projects considered from June 15, 2024, to June 14, 2025, and OTT nominations restricted to platforms available in Australia, this year's lineup spans mainstream superhits, indie revelations, regional gems, and binge-worthy series.
Among the most-nominated films and shows are 'Superboys of Malegaon', 'Maharaj', and 'L2: Empuraan'. On the streaming front, 'Paatal Lok 2', 'CA Topper', and 'Manorathangal' dominate the series categories, as per the press note by IFFM.

Actor Renuka Shahane has weighed in on the ongoing language debate in Maharashtra, urging people to respect local languages and cultures while firmly opposing any form of aggression in the name of linguistic pride. Speaking on the podcast InControversial with Pooja Chaudhri, the actor, who hails from Maharashtra herself, shared her thoughts on the tensions that have emerged between Hindi and Marathi speakers in the state. Renuka Shahane stressed the importance of understanding local culture and avoiding violence. Renuka on respecting the local culture 'If you've been living in a place for a long time, it's a good thing to understand the local language, culture and be more respectful than anything else. It's not about the speaking of it, much more than the intention of wanting to, you know, respect it. I do not like people who do not feel the necessity to be accommodating of the local language and local culture." Renuka said. 'I do not like violence at all, you know; I do not like the fact that people can be rude about it. Going into a place where Marathi is not spoken and just slapping two or three people, it's not going to help the language in any way. We have to find ways to get across the language to people in a way that people would find it convenient and accept it happily. Language is not something that should is forced. That is why I was against the forced addition of Hindi from a very early stage in Maharashtra. I think it should be something of a choice, which I also had growing up." Renuka added. During a recent interaction with ANI, Renuka's husband, actor Ashutosh Rana also addressed the issue. 'Bhasha samwaad ka vishay hoti hai, vivaad ka nahi. Bharat samwaad mein vishwas rakhta hai, vivaad mein nahi (Language is a topic of discussion and not controversy. India believes in talks and not controversy)," Ashutosh said, emphasising that language should be a tool for dialogue, not division. Marathi-Hindi language row Renuka and Ashutosh's comments come amid growing tensions in Maharashtra around language identity. The debate reignited in April 2025, after the state government announced — and then quickly rolled back — a decision to make Hindi a compulsory third language in schools. Since then, several confrontations have been reported where individuals allegedly linked to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have clashed with people for not speaking Marathi in public.

Siddhant Chaturvedi only learned his new film's title, 'Dhadak 2', halfway through shooting when Ishaan Khatter revealed it to him. Starring alongside Triptii Dimri, Siddhant's film, a spiritual successor to Dhadak, releases on August 1, 2025, while Ishaan's Homebound gains acclaim after Cannes 2025. Siddhant Chaturvedi had an interesting experience while shooting his new movie. He didn't know the film's title until someone outside the set told him. Even after filming most of the movie, he only found out it would be called 'Dhadak 2' when Ishaan Khatter , the star of the first 'Dhadak', shared the news with him. He explained that Ishaan had revealed the film's title to him before he was even aware of it himself. Grok users will soon be able to create their own AI companions, Musk claims each one will be totally unique
Just when you thought things couldn't get any more surreal in the world of AI chatbots, Elon Musk's xAI has taken things up a notch, or perhaps a few shades darker. Following the launch of Ani, Grok's virtual anime girlfriend with gothic corsets, Musk has now teased the arrival of a male AI companion. His name? Valentine. Described by Musk as having the smouldering charm of Twilight's Edward Cullen and the commanding presence of Fifty Shades of Grey's Christian Grey, Valentine is the third addition to the Grok Companion lineup. Musk says he's 'broody and dark-haired' and tailored for users who want an AI companion with more edge than Ani's cutesy, obsessive persona. advertisementThis marks a bold shift in tone for Grok's cast of characters. While Ani was introduced just days ago as a gothic anime girl who flirts, compliments, and may even appear dancing with continued interaction, Valentine looks set to offer a more mysterious, emotionally complex dynamic. Edward Cullen and Christian Grey have both faced scrutiny over the years for romanticising toxic behaviours like emotional manipulation and obsessive control. That's sparked fresh concerns over how AI companions model relationships, and what they might be teaching users, especially younger to the drama, Grok itself has been under fire recently. In fact, it's doubling down. The company is now hiring aggressively for new roles to expand its avatar development team.
