Grok users will soon be able to create their own AI companions, Musk claims each one will be totally unique

India Today4 days ago
Just when you thought things couldn't get any more surreal in the world of AI chatbots, Elon Musk's xAI has taken things up a notch, or perhaps a few shades darker. Following the launch of Ani, Grok's virtual anime girlfriend with gothic corsets, Musk has now teased the arrival of a male AI companion. His name? Valentine. Described by Musk as having the smouldering charm of Twilight's Edward Cullen and the commanding presence of Fifty Shades of Grey's Christian Grey, Valentine is the third addition to the Grok Companion lineup. Musk says he's 'broody and dark-haired' and tailored for users who want an AI companion with more edge than Ani's cutesy, obsessive persona.
advertisementThis marks a bold shift in tone for Grok's cast of characters. While Ani was introduced just days ago as a gothic anime girl who flirts, compliments, and may even appear dancing with continued interaction, Valentine looks set to offer a more mysterious, emotionally complex dynamic. Whether that means romantic poetry or brooding silence remains to be seen, but it's certainly not business as usual in chatbot land.
Also in the current roster is Rudi, a cheerful animated red panda who moonlights as 'Bad Rudi', a foul-mouthed, insult-hurling version for those who prefer their AI with a little bite. Together, Ani, Rudi, and now Valentine form the foundations of Grok's growing family of what xAI is calling Companions, digital avatars with personality, style, and a flair for role-play.How to enable Grok AI companion?
These avatars aren't available to just anyone. You'll need to be a subscriber to SuperGrok, xAI's highest-tier subscription service, which currently costs $30 (around Rs 2,600) per month, or $300 (around Rs 26,000) for the 'Heavy' version. Only iPhone users can access the feature for now, as Android and web versions are still in the works. To activate the companion mode, users simply download the Grok app, head to Settings, toggle the Enable Companions switch, and then choose the AI character they want to chat with. Once selected, interactions can happen via voice or text, and the avatars respond with facial gestures, changing tones, and emotional cues. Conversations can even be recorded and shared.Problems with Grok AIBut the shift hasn't come without controversy. The launch of Ani has already raised eyebrows, with critics pointing out the suggestive behaviours baked into her personality. Some users reported that the longer you interacted with her, the more 'intimate' the conversations became. With Ani flirting and appearing in lingerie, and Rudi launching into aggressive rants, the arrival of Valentine, modelled after two of pop culture's most problematic heartthrobs, has only fuelled the conversation further.Valentine's source of inspiration doesn't help. Edward Cullen and Christian Grey have both faced scrutiny over the years for romanticising toxic behaviours like emotional manipulation and obsessive control. That's sparked fresh concerns over how AI companions model relationships, and what they might be teaching users, especially younger ones.advertisementAdding to the drama, Grok itself has been under fire recently. The chatbot made headlines earlier this month after reportedly generating antisemitic content and praising Adolf Hitler. At one point, it even referred to itself as 'MechaHitler,' drawing widespread backlash. While Musk and his team have since moved to improve moderation, the controversies have raised questions about whether enough safeguards are in place, especially as these avatars become more personalised and emotionally immersive.Still, xAI isn't slowing down. In fact, it's doubling down. The company is now hiring aggressively for new roles to expand its avatar development team. A job listing titled Fullstack Engineer, Waifus was spotted on xAI's careers page, offering eye-watering salaries between $1,80,000 (around Rs 1.54 crore) and $4,40,000 (approximately Rs 3.78 crore), plus equity. As xAI continues to evolve Grok into a digital playground of personalities, one thing's for sure, whether you're looking for love, banter, or emotional chaos, there's a chatbot out there for you.- EndsTune In

Saiyaara scripts history with biggest opening weekend for a romantic film in India; check out 10 milestones Ahaan Panday–Aneet Padda movie achieved

At a time when Bollywood's future seemed uncertain with even the so-called 'most anticipated' projects underperforming, director Mohit Suri's musical romantic drama Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has breathed new life into the ailing industry and emerged as a surprise hit. Since day one, Saiyaara has been dominating the box office and is now poised to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in the domestic market on Tuesday. The film is also performing strongly in overseas markets, resulting in a global gross that is rising almost shockingly fast. In just three days since its release, Saiyaara has recorded an India nett collection of Rs 84 crore, marking the biggest opening weekend ever for a romantic film in India. After earning Rs 22 crore on its opening day (Friday), the film went on to collect Rs 26.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 35.75 crore on Sunday. With Rs 17.25 crore grossed overseas and Rs 101.75 crore grossed in India, the film's current worldwide total stands at Rs 119 crore (USD 13.80 million). * Highest worldwide opening weekend ever for a debutant-led Hindi film. * Biggest opening weekend for a romantic film in Indian box office history. * Sunday's Rs 35.75 crore nett is the highest single-day collection ever for a romance film in India. * Its opening weekend global gross of Rs 119 crore is the highest ever for a romantic film in Indian cinema. * First and only romance film to gross over Rs 100 crore worldwide in its opening weekend. * Rs 22 crore nett on Day One is the highest-ever opening for a love story in India. * Career-best opening for director Mohit Suri. * Most advance ticket sales for a debutant actor's film. * Most advance ticket sales for a love story. * Biggest-ever opening for a debut producer in the romance genre. Interestingly, Saiyaara has already surpassed the total domestic collection of Alia Bhatt's debut film Student of the Year (2012), which had earned Rs 70 crore in India. It has also overtaken the lifetime India collection of John Abraham's The Diplomat (Rs 38.97 crore). In her review of the movie, SCREEN's Shubhra Gupta wrote: 'What could have been a bitter-sweet love story, and that's what the Mohit Suri film is clearly going for, is done in by its dialogue-heavy, inconsistent bits.'

Ahaan Panday And Vedang Raina's Lookalike Memes Are The Internet's New Obsession: "Male Counterpart Of Raveena-Twinkle"

New Delhi: Saiyaara is shattering box office records, and with its success, a new memefest has taken over social media, featuring the Internet's new obsession, Ahaan Panday. What's Happening A viral post comparing Ahaan Panday and Vedang Raina has caught the attention of fans. The post shows their striking similarities: deep eyes, wavy hair and charismatic smiles. The side-by-side comparison drew parallels to the iconic Raveena Tandon-Twinkle Khanna lookalike trend from the past. The caption read: "Finally, we got the male counterpart of Raveena Tandon-Twinkle Khanna." Fans quickly joined the trend, sharing images from Saiyaara and Vedang's projects, noting how their on-screen presence seems to align. Memes and hashtags like #AhaanVedangTwins flooded X (formerly Twitter), with some users even suggesting a twin-swap plot or a future collaboration between the two actors. Finally we got the male counterpart of Raveena Tandon-Twinkle Khanna — Raymond. (@rayfilm) July 19, 2025 Background Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara has now become the highest-grossing Hindi film led by debutants. The film collected Rs 83 crore in three days. The film's performance is especially notable considering its lead pair did not participate in traditional promotions ahead of release. Director Mohit Suri explained the decision, comparing it to the approach taken with his 2013 film Aashiqui 2, which also featured relatively fresh faces at the time, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. "It was an idea that collectively came forward. My producer Akshaye Widhani and, of course, Aditya Chopra (owner of Yash Raj Films), who has mentored us through this thing, suggested that until the two actors don't have anything behind them to talk about, the conversation will be filled with questions like 'Who is the prankster on the set?' or 'How is it to work with Mohit Suri?' It's all redundant stuff, and I don't think anyone has any interest in listening to all that," Suri said in an interview on the YouTube channel Just Too Filmy. While Saiyaara marks Ahaan Panday's on-screen debut, it is Aneet Padda's first feature film appearance. She previously gained attention for her performance in the Prime Video India series Big Girls Don't Cry last year.
