‘Their Words Reminded Me…' Akash Deep Credits Virat Kohli And MS Dhoni For Career-Best England Performance
India's rising fast-bowling star Akash Deep has revealed how simple but impactful advice from cricket icons Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni helped shape his impressive performances during the recent Test series in England. Edgbaston Hero The 28-year-old pacer emerged as one of the standout players of the tour, finishing with 13 wickets, including a memorable 10-wicket haul at Edgbaston, and a gritty 66 as a nightwatchman at The Oval. Reflecting on his success, Akash Deep said the words of his senior teammates gave him the mental clarity and confidence to perform under pressure. Advice From Virat Kohli According to the Bengal cricketer, Virat Kohli encouraged him to put in relentless effort at practice. 'Practice makes a man perfect. If you have doubts about something, practice it so much that the doubts vanish completely,' Kohli told him during their discussions. Dhoni's Advice MS Dhoni, known for his calm approach to the game, reinforced a similar sentiment. 'Cricket is a game of confidence, and that confidence comes with practice,' Dhoni advised. Akash Deep explained that both messages resonated deeply with him, especially in the challenging conditions of England, where discipline, patience, and skill were tested in every session. 'Their words reminded me that the best preparation is not just physical but also mental. I went into every game believing I had done the work,' he said. Deep opens up on the dramatic Day 5 of the Oval Test 'Big legends with so much experience were in the dressing room. Since the ball was moving a lot and it was an old ball, scoring wasn't easy because the ball didn't race off the bat. We planned to try and take wickets using that movement. If that didn't work, we would have gone for the new ball,' he mentioned. The young seamer's performances not only contributed significantly to India's competitive showing in the series but also marked him as one of the promising prospects for the national team's future pace attack.

After IPL 2025 Disaster, CSK To Release Senior Stars And Invest In Young Talent: Report
IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are preparing for a major squad rebuild following their worst-ever IPL season, finishing at the bottom of the 2025 table. Reports suggest a strategy shift toward younger match-winners, with several senior players set to be released. Dhoni, Gaikwad and Owners Discuss Future Plans A meeting in Chennai between MS Dhoni, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, and team owners reportedly focused on plugging loopholes from the mega auction squad. Despite the addition of young players like Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel, and Dewald Brevis mid-season, CSK couldn't salvage their campaign. Senior Stars on the Chopping Block Veteran off-spinner R Ashwin, bought for ₹9.75 crore, is likely to be released. Other players with uncertain futures include Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, Gurjapneet Singh, Nathan Ellis, Deepak Hooda, Jamie Overton, and Vijay Shankar. Offloading them could free up ₹34.45 crore, and with an additional purse, CSK might enter the mini-auction with ₹40 crore. Big Targets: Cameron Green and Ben Duckett CSK are reportedly eyeing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green and attacking English opener Ben Duckett to add much-needed firepower. The franchise's primary focus will be on strengthening the top order, securing a reliable middle-order Indian batter, and adding a quality pacer. Sanju Samson in CSK's Radar The franchise has shown interest in Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, who might exit RR following a fallout with the owners. However, acquiring him before the auction appears challenging, as CSK are unwilling to trade core players like Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, and Shivam Dube. A cash-only deal seems the only route, but it would require significant negotiation. Dhoni's Future Still Unclear MS Dhoni, 45, who captained the side after Gaikwad's injury last season, has not confirmed retirement plans. The management believes he could play one more season, but Dhoni has said he will decide after assessing his fitness in the coming months.

‘Not always will you win': Akash Deep reveals what he told Ben Duckett in Oval Test send-off
On day two of a pulsating fifth Test at the Oval in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, India pacer Akash Deep's dismissal of England's Ben Duckett broke a strong opening partnership. However, it was his subsequent actions that drew a lot of attention. After getting Duckett out caught behind on 43 off 38 balls in the first innings, Deep celebrated by punching the air before putting his arm around Duckett's shoulder and walking with him, seemingly exchanging a few words. KL Rahul eventually pulled Deep away, and umpire Ahsan Raza spoke with the Indian bowler. The incident, which happened at the end of an over, was followed by a chat between Deep and Shardul Thakur at the boundary. Commentators Mike Atherton and Dinesh Karthik both disapproved of Deep's behavior, with the former calling his send-off to Duckett 'unnecessary.' Reflecting on the eyeball-grabbing passage of play, the Bengal pacer revealed how he got back on track despite the England opener's fancy shots threatened to take him off his conventional lengths and lines. 'I have a good record against Duckett and have got him out a few times. I have always fancied my chances against the left-handers and he is no different. On that day, he was trying to throw me off my line and length and had played a number of unconventional shots. That's when he said to me that it was his day and I will not be able to get him out,' Deep told Revsportz on the Oval dismissal. The wicket was Deep's solitary in the first innings. In an otherwise forgettable match, Deep only registered one more wicket during India's emphatic six-run win. 'The truth is, if a batter moves around the pitch and plays these shots, your line and length does get impacted, for you don't really know what he will do next. That's what was happening. Also, England were off to a quick start and we needed a wicket.' 'We were defending a modest score and wickets were critical. When I got him out (smiles), I said to him: 'You miss, I hit. Not always will you win. This time, I win'. It was a continuation of what he was saying to me, and it was all done in good spirit,' remarked Deep. The 27-year-old received criticism from several corner for his send-off gesture. 'There is no need to walk him off in that fashion. Your job is done at that point. I don't think I've ever seen a bowler do that after getting someone out. It was strange really,' said England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick was quoted by Sky Sports.
