Twisted Edinburgh man caught spying on woman while she used toilet at McDonald's
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A pervert pensioner has been caught spying on a woman while she used a toilet at a McDonald's takeaway - just four months after he was sentenced for a similar offence. David Levenson was spotted peering over the cubicle and watching the victim urinating at the fast food outlet at Cameron Toll Shopping Centre in Edinburgh in August last year. The disgusted woman was said to have looked up and seen 'a flash of white hair' as the sleazy 73-year-old attempted to conceal himself within the cubicle. Levenson, from the city's Broughton area, fled the area but was quickly identified by cops after he was caught on the restaurant's CCTV system. The OAP has now been warned he faces a jail sentence after pleading guilty to concealing himself within the McDonald's toilets and watching the woman urinate when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday. Prosecutor Gillian Koren told the court the victim attended the McDonald's outlet at the capital's Cameron Toll Shopping Centre with her children at around 12.30pm on August 11 last year. Ms Koren said while waiting on her family's food order to be prepared the woman used the toilet facilities. The fiscal said: 'When [the woman] was using the toilet she became aware of shadows on the floor coming from above her and she saw the accused's head shoot down and saw a flash of white hair. 'She was shaken and appalled by the incident and she immediately left the cubicle area. The accused was seen, after being discovered by [the woman], to quickly leave the toilet area. The witness spoke to staff and the police were contacted immediately.' Officers attended at the restaurant and soon identified Levenson after viewing CCTV footage of him fleeing the scene. Solicitor Kirsty Harper asked the court to grant her client bail due to him being the carer for his 'frail' long term partner and remanding him in custody would be 'a punitive measure on her'. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages Sheriff John Cook said: 'This is a particularly serious matter having regard to the fact you have an analogous previous conviction for it. A custodial sentence is very much at the forefront of the court's mind in light of that.' Sheriff Cook noted Levenson was already subject to the requirements of the sex offenders register and said his name would again be added for this conviction. Sentence was deferred to next month. Levenson gave the middle finger sign and swore at the waiting press as he left the court building following his guilty plea. The OAP was caught carrying out a similar act at a McDonald's in the capital's city centre in August 2023 and handed himself into police following a public appeal. He admitted the offence when he appeared in court last March and was sentenced four weeks later - just four months before carrying out his latest offence. On that occasion Levenson was placed on the sex offenders register for 12 months and ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid work.

Scots mum furious as stranger approaches daughter on bus with sinister question
Stacey Waddell is raising awareness after the disturbing incident on a bus this week. A Scots mum is hoping to raise awareness after claiming a man asked her teen daughter if she wanted a 'draw of his vape'. The alleged incident happened at around 11.30am on Tuesday, June 10, while the 13-year-old was travelling home from school on the X28 bus service from Deans in Livingston. Mum-of-three Stacey Waddell, 35, says she was worried there was spice in the vape - a nickname for a lab-made drug - synthetic cannabinoid, reports Edinburgh Live. After the worrying interaction, the mum reported the incident to police and suitable advice was given to the family. Stacey said: "This all happened on Tuesday. She was sent home from school because she wasn't feeling well. "A male approached her who looked around 18 or 19-years-old. He said 'this sounds a bit strange but I have been asking a lot of people - do you want a draw of my vape?' "She said no and he watched her get off the bus. When she got home she told me everything and I had to explain to her that I had heard so many stories of people using vapes laced with spice. I mean this incident could have been innocent but I am glad she told me and didn't take anything." Stacey is hoping to warn other parents and also spread awareness around the dangers of vaping and drug misuse due to the fear of what's inside them. She added: "A lot of people get the X28 and X27 to school and I just want to warn people about what could be happening to children. "You just don't know what could be in these vapes. I have a dealt with a lot in the past. "I am always on high alert because I have a 16-year-old so I have to be aware of the dangers of drugs. It's a scary world out there, especially for bringing teenagers up. "Children might think what they are doing is innocent but they can't see what it's doing to their insides or what it could do to their mental health as well. "My daughter is only 13 so it's worrying we are having these conversations. I never had this when I was younger - children aren't getting to be kids anymore." A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 2.20pm on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025, we received a report of a man having approached a girl on a bus in the area of Knightsridge West Road, Livingston. 'Enquiries were carried out and no criminality was established. Suitable advice was given.'

'There are multi-layered causes' behind increase in shoplifting in East Lothian
A police chief has said part of the reason for a rise in shoplifting in East Lothian is people 'not being taught how to behave' in stores. Chief Inspector Ben Leathes, divisional commander, acknowledged the crime remains a cause of concern for communities in the county. And he told a meeting of East Lothian Council's police, fire and community safety board, part of the problem was a lack of education. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad His comments come as CCTV footage of one alleged shoplifter was shared on social media by a local shop owner sparking claims the same offender had been on a spree in several other stores. The Day Today, in Tranent, appealed for anyone who could identify the man, who was caught on camera appearing to take a box of detergent off a shelf and put it into a carrier bag yesterday, to contact them. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Police Scotland said it had not received a report of shoplifting at the store adding: 'Anyone wishing to report a crime should contact us via 101.' Speaking at the meeting of the board yesterday morning, Chief Inspector Leathes said that while reports of shoplifting had fallen slightly over the last year they remained 'prolific'. The number of incidents reported was nearly 63% higher than the five year average with nearly 3,500 complaints. The chief inspector said: 'Shoplifting is on the increase and there are multi layered causes behind that, which we can tackle. 'We can look at why individuals are shoplifting, Whether it is down to their own addiction, whether it is down to simply not being able to put food on the table or whether it is down to just not being taught how to behave in a shop. The police chief said a specialist unit had been established to tackle retail crime nationally with £3m funding from the Scottish Government working with a number of agencies.
