Packers RB Josh Jacobs produced one of the top YAC plays of 2024 season

USA Today14-02-2025
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs produced one of 'Incredible YAC' plays of the 2024 season. Next Gen Stats generates 'Incredible YAC' plays by calculating expected yards after the catch (YAC) and the YAC over expectation to produce the top individual performances.
The idea is simple: Gaining 10 yards after the catch when you make a catch in wide open space isn't that difficult for an NFL player. But if that player has to break a bunch of tackles to gain yards after the catch? That's beating expectation.
Jacobs' impressive 49-yard catch during the fourth quarter of the Packers' Thanksgiving Night win over the Miami Dolphins just barely cracked the top 20 'Incredible YAC' plays of the regular season.
Here's the catch-and-run from Jacobs, who got away from a trailing defender and then made one hellacious juke move on a linebacker in space to create an explosive play on a checkdown from Jordan Love:
With a defender within a yard of him at the catch and another closing in from the middle of the field, Next Gen Stats estimated only five yards after the catch on Jacobs' catch. Instead, he gained almost 47, giving him 42 yards after the catch over the expectation — ranking 20th among all players during the 2024 season.
The Pro Bowl running back was one of the hardest players in football to tackle in 2024.
Jacobs also produced one of the 'Remarkable Rushes' of the postseason. In the second half against the Eagles, Jacobs turned what looked to be a short gain into an explosive 31-yard run that set up the Packers' first and only touchdown. Per Next Gen Stats, Jacobs gained 26 yards over the expectation on the run.
You can find that run at roughly the 1:00 mark of the video below:

Another analyst steps up to defend Jalen Hurts after Cam Newton's harsh critique

Another established voice come to Jalen Hurts defense after cam Newton's verbal assault. No one loved beef like the late, great 'Drama King,' D.J. Kay Slay. If things were quiet and there wasn't any, he'd create some. If he were here, he'd be having a field day with the Jalen Hurts narratives if he hadn't passed on after a COVID-19 contraction in 2022. This seemed like a mere opinion a couple of years ago. Still, it's hard to think of a starting quarterback who is marginalized and disrespected more often than the Philadelphia Eagles starter. All he does is win. All people do is complain. If you only read the narratives, you'd think he was Trevor Lawrence or Justin Herbert... But, that probably doesn't make the point we're trying to communicate because people keep telling us those two are better players. Recently, Cam Newton joined the Jalen Hurts onslaught. That was surprising. If anyone joined Hurt's side, we would have assumed it would have been him, but no dice. Hurts found some support as Newton was criticized for his statements. The 2015 NFL MVP didn't waver. He doubled down. Most thought training camp would shift the focus away from this, but an established voice joined the discussion. And, he's backing Hurts. Chase Senior is an analyst and content creator over at Chat Sports. He hosts Eagles Now and the 49ers Report. He joined in on the Newton vs. Hurts discussion and did Philadelphia sports fans proud. We tried to play devil's advocate and offer a varying opinion just for kicks after that one, but we can't. Senior hit the nail on the head there. That sound you hear is Newton's jaw hitting the floor. Well done, Mr. Senior. There's seemingly nothing left to add after that level of excellence. That being said, we get back to the Eagles training camp news.

There aren't many players the New York Giants can hang their hats on these days. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, linebacker Brian Burns, and left tackle Andrew Thomas, the team's three highest players, are among the best at their positions in the league, but there's not a lot to pick from after that -- yet. Enter second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers, who set an NFL record for receptions by a rookie wideout last season. Nabers is one of the league's biggest rising stars and was recently named to NFL Network's Top 100 Players of 2025 list. No. 67 - Malik Nabers, WR, New York Giants 15 games | 109 rec | 1,204 rec yds | 11.0 ypr | 7 rec TDs | 2 rush yds | 1 rush TD An emerging star in New York, Nabers was a highlight reel every week for the Giants. Regardless of who was under center for the Giants, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 draft filled the stat sheet. Nabers was a bright spot in New York's underwhelming season with his receptions tally briefly holding the rookie record, and finishes his debut campaign with a Top 100 accolade to his résumé. NFL Pro Insight for : Malik Nabers was targeted on 36.5% of his routes run when facing single-high safety coverage last season, second-highest in the NFL among wide receivers with at least 150 such routes run. Nabers earned 103 targets against single-high coverages last season, nine more than any other receiver. However, he gained just 649 yards on those targets, ranking 13th overall. The Giants feel they have several other possible rising stars, such as safety Tyler Nubin, tight end Theo Johnson, running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., and linebacker Abdul Carter.
