They will also share views on issues that affect the region and the world.
One issue on the agenda is the extradition of Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya. These individuals are wanted in India on financial charges and are currently in the UK.Misri said that India is continuing to push for their return and is working with British authorities through legal channels."There are a few questions related to fugitives from Indian law and Indian justice in the UK. These have been a matter of discussion between both sides, and we have continued to make the case for these fugitives to be rendered to India," the Foreign Secretary said."Obviously, there is a legal process that such requests and such issues go through in the other country, and we continue to follow up very closely with our partners in the UK on these," he added.Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya have all been accused of financial fraud in separate cases in India. All had fled to London to escape the charges.Another major topic will be the presence of Khalistani extremist groups in the UK. India has raised this matter with British officials in the past and will continue to do so. Misri said that this issue affects not only India but also social stability in the UK."The issue of the presence of Khalistani extremists and bodies close to these people is, again, something that we have brought to the attention of our partners in the UK. We will continue to do so," Misri said."This is a matter of concern not only to us, but it should be a matter of concern to our partners as well, because this impacts social cohesion and social order in these other countries as well," Misri added.PM Modi is also expected to meet King Charles III and speak with business leaders from both countries. This is Modi's fourth visit to the UK since becoming Prime Minister. After the UK, he will visit the Maldives from July 25 to July 26.- EndsTune InMust Watch

Over 4.7 lakh pirated NCERT textbooks seized since 2024: Education Ministry tells RS

The Union Minister of State for Education, Jayant Chaudhary, shared in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha today that over 4.7 lakh pirated copies of NCERT textbooks have been seized from across the country since 2024. 'Instances of piracy of NCERT textbooks have been received from different parts of the country. During the years 2024 and 2025, approximately 4.71 lakh pirated copies of NCERT textbooks have been seized in various operations across different states. Piracy is driven primarily by commercial motives of unscrupulous elements,' Chaudhary said. 'The main objective of NCERT is to provide quality textbooks at a very affordable price to the last student across the country, on a no-profit and no-loss basis,' he added. The Minister of State (MoS) reported that over the past year, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has conducted raids on a record 29 locations associated with the production and sale of pirated textbooks. These operations targeted manufacturers of illegal NCERT watermarked paper as well. As a result, the NCERT seized stock and equipment valued at over Rs 20 crore. 'NCERT has also taken several proactive measures to hit at the very root of the piracy business, including a 20 per cent price reduction of NCERT textbooks, timely printing of NCERT textbooks, improved quality of paper and printing (using modern machines), and promotion of online sale of textbooks through e-commerce platforms. 'NCERT has also conducted a pilot trial of a technology-based anti-piracy solution on one million copies of a grade 6 textbook. This tech-based solution has been developed and patented by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur,' he said. Meanwhile, the new NCERT Class 8 Social Science textbook skips the mention of Tipu Sultan, Haidar Ali or the Anglo-Mysore wars of 1700s in its chapter on India's colonial era, which has been described as time when 'one of the richest lands of the world had become one of the poorest'. Part 1 of the textbook — 'Exploring Society: Indian and Beyond' — was released this week for use in the ongoing academic session. A second part is expected this year. The chapter on the colonial era covers the period from the late 1400s and the arrival of Vasco da Gama up to the late 1800s, including the 'Great Indian Rebellion of 1857'. It traces the shift of the British from being traders to rulers, refers to the Battle of Plassey — a decisive victory for the East India Company against Nawab of Bengal in 1757 — and the 'drain of India's wealth' during this period. Appointment of IOA CEO to be ratified by EC, announcement likely on Thursday

New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) The long-standing bitter conflict within the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is set to end with the majority of Executive Council members, who have been at loggerheads with president PT Usha, expected to ratify Raghuram Iyer's appointment as CEO. The warring EC members had refused to ratify Iyer's appointment made by Usha in January 2024, the bone of contention being the Rs 20 lakh per month salary for the CEO, along with other perks. A stormy Executive Council meeting in September 2024, which was virtually attended by an official of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), had failed to break the impasse. It has been learnt that a rapprochement is set to take place on the prodding of the sports ministry. 'The EC members have agreed to ratify Iyer's appointment and it's likely to be announced on Thursday," a source privy to the development told PTI. The warring EC members are meeting informally on Wednesday evening. A press meet has been called on Thursday, in which Usha and most of the EC members will be present. 'There will have to be at least a working relationships (between Usha and warring EC members), so a rapprochement process has started," an Executive Council member said. 'We are doing it for the good of Indian sport, especially in view of the fact that we are hoping to host the 2036 Olympics." There has been no Executive Council meeting since September 2024 and no Annual General Body Meeting since March 2023. After PT Usha's election as chief, the IOA took a long time to appoint a CEO mandated under the constitution. The process began only after the IOC's repeated warnings. But when the appointment was made, 12 EC members refused to ratify Iyer for the post. Usha had said that Iyer has been working without pay as his appointment is yet to be ratified by the EC. There have been allegations and counter-allegations from both the sides and the EC members even notified a no confidence motion against Usha last year only to be dropped later. The to-and-fro from the two sides, though, reduced after India submitted a formal expression of interest for hosting the 2036 Olympics towards the end of last year. India is currently in the 'continuous dialogue process" with the Future Host Commission of the IOC, despite a 'pause" on the process announced last month by the world body.
