The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday slammed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav for his remarks on the Waqf (Amendment) Act and for accusing the ruling dispensation of disrespecting the constitution framed by BR Ambedkar. 'These parties, RJD, Samajwadi Party (SP), etc, use the garb of socialism, but do not stand up for the rights of the poor and oppressed Muslims. Therefore, the socialism of RJD and SP cannot be called socialism at all. If it is called 'Namazvad', then it will not be an exaggeration,' said BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi.
He slammed Yadav, the leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, for protesting against the Waqf Amendment Act. Trivedi said the law was passed by Parliament, and opposing the same is being done to appease a section of people.
'I want to tell the people of Bihar that there are two options. The INDI[A] alliance, which will try to implement sharia through the back door if it comes to power, and the other is our government, which will remain committed to protecting Baba Saheb's constitution,' Trivedi said. He accused the RJD of pursuing vote bank politics.

A sustained citizens' campaign backed by activists and political leaders has helped save a two-acre prime government plot in Mangalwar Peth from being handed over to a private builder. (HT FILE PHOTO) The plot, owned by the state government, was originally handed over to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) in 1995–96 by the then minister Nitin Gadkari, as MSRDC lacked an office in Pune. However, the land remained unused for decades. In January 2024, a Delhi-based builder put up a board on the plot, revealing that MSRDC has floated a tender and transferred the land without public knowledge. The sudden development triggered opposition with civic activists and leaders from across the political spectrum — including BJP's Ujwal Keskar, Suhas Kulkarni, and Shiv Sena's Prashant Badhe — also joining the public protest, demanding transparency and cancellation of the deal. 'We were shocked to discover that a land valued at over ₹ 300 crore had been allotted for just ₹ 70 crore,' said Keskar. 'MSRDC claimed they needed funds, but why was the land sold below market rate? We didn't get any satisfactory answers.' The opposition mounted at multiple levels, including public campaigns and media coverage. 'Some senior bureaucrats and IPS officers had stakes in this deal,' Keskar alleged, 'and that's how a Delhi-based builder got involved.' Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who was said to be overseeing MSRDC at the time, was reportedly instrumental in pushing the deal — a move that even BJP leaders within the alliance opposed. Sassoon General Hospital had long requested this land for a dedicated cancer hospital. BJP MLA Yogesh Tilekar raised the issue in the Assembly, and the government had then verbally assured that the land would be used for the hospital, though no formal decision had followed. On Friday, Urban development minister of state Madhuri Misal held a review meeting at Sassoon hospital and officially announced that the MSRDC land deal had been scrapped. 'We have now decided to set up a cancer hospital on this land. Sassoon General Hospital has been instructed to submit a proposal at the earliest,' she said. A BJP insider noted, 'Though Shinde is part of the ruling alliance, the BJP was not in favour of the land deal. That's why our own minister made the announcement.' The Republican Party of India had also opposed the builder deal and demanded that the plot be used for a Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial. However, the state has decided to prioritise the cancer hospital, citing urgent public need. Activists welcomed the decision. 'This is a victory for citizens,' said Keskar, Kulkarni, and Badhe in a joint statement. 'Western Maharashtra lacked a dedicated cancer hospital. People from Pune and neighbouring districts will now benefit. At the same time, we urge the government to order an inquiry into how this builder deal was allowed to proceed.'

CM wants Old Delhi railway station to be renamed after Maharaja Agrasen
Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta has written to Union railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting that the Old Delhi Railway Station be renamed in honour of Maharaja Agrasen, a legendary figure revered for his contributions to social justice, according to two senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders familiar with the matter. 'I am writing to respectfully request your kind consideration for renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station in honour of Maharaja Agrasen, a revered historical figure whose legacy has had profound impact on the socio-economic development of India, particularly in Delhi. Maharaja Agrasen is widely regarded as a symbol of social justice, economic foresight, and community welfare. His countless followers and descendants continue to play a pivotal role in shaping Delhi's economic and cultural landscape,' CM Gupta wrote in the letter. One of the BJP leaders cited confirmed that the letter was sent last week, and said that the chief minister has sought the 'personal intervention' of the railways minister for the renaming. Located adjacent to Chandni Chowk, the Old Delhi Railway Station — officially known as Delhi Junction — is one of the city's most prominent landmarks and serves as a key transit hub for trains to and from several major cities in north India. Built in the 19th century during British rule, it is also the oldest major railway station in Delhi and among the busiest in the country. In her letter, Gupta said renaming the station would be a 'fitting tribute' to Maharaja Agrasen's enduring legacy and would resonate deeply with the people of Delhi. 'It would honour a leader who has inspired generations with his vision of equality, economic self-reliance, and collective progress,' she wrote. The renaming of railway stations falls under the jurisdiction of the Union ministry of railways, and such proposals must be formally approved by the ministry before being implemented. State governments and local authorities can recommend name changes, but the final decision lies with the central government. When asked about the letter, officials from the chief minister's office declined to comment on the letter. HT also reached out to Vaishnaw's office but did not get a response till the time of going to press. The proposal to rename Old Delhi Railway Station is not the first such move in the city in recent years. The BJP-led government at the Centre has approved several renamings, including that of the Mughal Garden at Rashtrapati Bhavan to Amrit Udyan, and Rajpath to Kartavya Path.

Divisional commissioner urges action for transgender welfare
Nagpur: Divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari on Monday directed district officials to fast-track welfare measures for the transgender community, implementing the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act and resolving long-pending civic and legal issues affecting third-gender individuals. Chairing a review meeting of the Divisional Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, Bidari instructed authorities to launch special drives for issuing ration cards, Aadhaar IDs and voter identity cards to transgender citizens. She emphasised that govt schemes must actively include the community and proposed housing be provided to them under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana . Stressing their dignity and inclusion, Bidari asked all districts to identify and resolve land disputes related to crematoriums for the transgender population and instructed that separate health facilities be created for them in govt hospitals. She also called for setting up help centres at police stations in areas where transgender individuals reside in large numbers to ensure access to grievance redressal. On broader community inclusion, the commissioner directed education authorities and district administrations to promote awareness of the Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act among youth. So far, 7,079 out of 8,610 cases registered under the Act in the region have been resolved, with Rs68.97 crore disbursed as financial aid. Social Justice Department's regional deputy commissioner Dr Siddharth Gaikwad presented a detailed report on atrocity cases. District collector Dr Vipin Itankar, senior police officers Prashant Sakhare, Dr Abhijit Patil, Dr Ashok Bagul, assistant commissioner Sukeshini Telgote and other committee members were present.
