'Beyond Paper Plane' travelling exhibition project presents contemporary Czech illustrators and artists with a particular focus on children's books, organized by Czech Centres in Egypt and the Czech Embassy in Egypt. The curatorial selection features books that combine a three-dimensional object with an independent work of art. This allows the books to offer a much greater sense of space and haptics and promotes the authenticity of the material.
Contemporary children's books have the potential for further interactive and educational use, whether it is the analogue manual finishing of the illustrations or their transfer into virtual reality, allowing children to immerse themselves in the game. The illustrations experiment with unusual materials, such as sheet metal, textiles, optical foils, photographs or found objects, pushing the boundaries of the conventional book format and the traditionally associated media such as watercolour, drawing, printmaking or painting (27 July- 9 August).

Rather than a retrospective, this exhibition offers an open, evolving archive formed by memory, conversations, and the relationships that continue to grow around the gallery

'Sayyida Zeinab: The Tale of a Mosque and Legendary Sites Around It' exhibition is organised by the Sheikh Hassan Abbas Sharbatly Department of Arab and Islamic Civilizations, on the Cairene neighbourhood of Sayyida Zeinab. Unearthing a treasure trove of historic photographs, maps, postcards, newspapers, magazines, etc., the exhibition explores the urban evolution and politics of Sayyida Zainab, from the 9th century until the present day. It features more than 50 monuments in an attempt to reimagine their past and envision their future (closing 31 July).

Beyond Paper Plane: When Children's Books Become Art, Objects, and Adventures
SeeNews PRESS RELEASE Presented by the Czech Centres and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo, the new Beyond Paper Plane exhibition presents a carefully curated selection of contemporary Czech illustrated books that challenge and expand the traditional concept of the children's book. Divided into eight thematic sections, Beyond Paper Plane highlights the intersection of literature, fine art, and design — featuring works that incorporate three dimensional objects, textile techniques, paper collage, pop-up architecture, and interactive elements. Emphasizing tactile engagement and visual experimentation, the exhibition invites audiences of all ages to experience books not only as reading material but as multisensory, imaginative spaces. After being showcased in Prague, the Beyond Paper Plane exhibition has already travelled to Tokyo, Seoul, and Paris. On July 27, it will open in Cairo in exclusive partnership with Bibliothek Egypt (branch Arkan Plaza, Sheikh Zayed City). 'Beyond Paper Plane invites us to see the book not only as something we read, but as something we experience with all our senses. It brings together Czech artists who challenge the boundaries of children's illustration — through texture, space, and play. We are delighted to bring this unique Czech project to Cairo and share it with new audiences,' adds Tereza Svášková, Exhibition Coordinator. The exhibition is hosted at Bibliothek Egypt, Arkan Plaza, Sheikh Zayed City (Unit SY- 203, Building F3, 2nd floor), and will be open to the public daily from 11 AM to 10 PM, from July 28 until August 9. The opening night will take place on July 27 at 7 PM. Entry is free of charge, and visitors are encouraged to interact with selected works on site. 'Bibliothek was established in 2021 by Amr Barakat as a cultural hub, bringing together a bookstore, gallery, and café under one roof. The concept was introduced to Egypt for the first time, offering the community a space that highlights the role of intellect and art in society. That's why we're especially keen to host the Beyond Paper Plane exhibition, which aligns perfectly with our mission of celebrating creativity and cultural dialogue,' say the Founders of Bibliothek.
