Five arrested for CPI leader Chandu Rathod's murder in Hyderabad
According to South East Zone DCP S Chaitanya Kumar, the prime accused, Donthi Rajesh, felt betrayed by the victim over sharing of money amounting to Rs 50 lakh they made through various settlement of land disputes and feared a threat to his life, leading to plot to murder his partner.
Explaining the motive, police said that in January 2022, Rajesh, with the victim's support, erected 1,300 huts for his followers on 100 acres of land in Kuntloor village, Hayathnagar mandal, by collecting `1,000 from each. Later, the victim collected `13 lakh from Rajesh and others but accused Rajesh before the party of not handing over the money to him.
In another instance, the victim allegedly collected `12 lakh from one Bal Reddy to mediate a monetary dispute between Reddy and Rathod's brother-in-law, in which Rajesh was involved. He also suspected that the victim had an extramarital affair with his wife.
On July 15, Rajesh and Kumba Yedukondalu provided four coconut-cutting knives, chilli powder, and firearms to the other accused and arranged a rental car for the crime.

Six more Maoists from Chhattisgarh surrender before Telangana police in Kothagudem
As many as six members of the banned CPI (Maoist) from Chhattisgarh's strife-torn south Bastar region surrendered before police in Telangana's Kothagudem town on Thursday. According to the police, six Maoists including three each from Bijapur and Sukma districts turned themselves in before Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B. Rohit Raju, taking the total number of surrendered Maoists in the district to 306 so far this year. The surrendered Maoists include Madakam Lakme, Platoon Party Committee Member, Sodi Bheme and Sodi Raje, party members, 4th Platoon, Konta Area Committee, Madivi Sona, Militia Deputy Commander, Madivi Bheem and Madakam Bheemaiah, Militia Members of Palagudem Revolutionary People's Committee. They have parted ways with the banned organisation and returned to the mainstream to lead a peaceful life by availing of the financial support under the Telangana government's rehabilitation policy, police said.

Punjab police bust Rs 92 crore 'digital arrest' scam (Image credits: ANI) NEW DELHI: Punjab Police have busted a nationwide Rs 92-crore 'digital arrest' racket, exposing two organised gangs running elaborate cyber-enabled financial frauds. The breakthrough came after coordinated raids across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Gujarat, which led to the identification of ten suspects. Six have been arrested, two are already in jail and will be brought on production warrants, while two remain on the run. In a press release, police said the gangs posed as senior police officers, CBI officials, or other law-enforcement authorities over the phone. Victims were falsely accused in fabricated criminal cases and threatened with a so-called 'digital arrest' unless they transferred large sums of money. The scam spanned several states, including a Rs 3-crore fraud targeting residents of SAS Nagar. The case stems from two FIRs lodged at the SAS Nagar Cyber Crime Police Station, Phase-7. Investigators have frozen or closed 310 bank accounts linked to the racket and connected the suspects to a Rs 12.5-crore fraud case registered in Bengaluru under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS, and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act. Over the past four months, SAS Nagar Cyber Crime Police have dismantled six illegal call centres, arrested 41 people- including seven foreign nationals- and seized laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, ATM cards, and multiple bank accounts. They have also cracked a honey-trap case, arrested the mastermind of a fake Railway job racket that duped 25 people, refunded Rs 4.12 crore to victims, and blocked scams worth Rs 2 crore through timely alerts to banks. SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said the operation was more than just making arrests — it showcased Punjab Police's strong commitment to protecting citizens from cybercrime. He added that their efforts will continue to target such networks, recover stolen money, and ensure every offender is brought to justice.
