Earlier, the Haryana government on Tuesday ordered the suspension of mobile internet, bulk SMS and dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours (from 11 am on Tuesday) amid public outrage over the death of the teacher.
Manisha's body was found in a field in Bhiwani on August 13. She had gone missing on August 11, after leaving the school, purportedly to enquire about admission at a nursing college.
On Monday, police claimed that the investigations pointed to the teenager dying by suicide by ingesting poison.
However, her father, Sanjay, on Tuesday rejected the finding and refused to cremate the body, demanding "justice." He said, "The administration is saying that my daughter committed suicide. But I can say that she can never commit suicide. I want justice." While protests over the teacher's death raged on, and politicians waded into the matter, alleging breakdown of law and order, the emergence of a "suicide note" in the death case on Monday turned the investigation on its head.
Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar said the purported note was found near Manisha's body in a bag, which also had her Aadhaar card and other documents. He also said that there was proof of Manisha buying insecticide.
"In the viscera sample, the presence of insecticide has been confirmed in the body. So, there is self-purchase, there is a suicide note, there is poison in the body," he said.
Police also said that the post-mortem reports have ruled out the possibility of any sexual assault.
The villagers had also questioned the latest findings and continued to block a key road in Bhiwani in protest. They had said Manisha's cremation would not take place till "justice" is done.
The death caused massive outrage, with people blocking key roads in the district and the opposition parties, including the Congress, demanding a CBI probe.
The opposition parties flayed the BJP-led state government, claiming that the alleged murder was proof of a "breakdown of law and order" under the saffron party.
Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the role of the state government and the police had been "negligent and irresponsible", and an "unfortunate attempt is being made to prove the whole case as a suicide."

Two from Maharashtra arrested in Rs 77-lakh digital arrest scam

The Cyber Crime Police of Chandigarh has arrested two persons from Maharashtra for allegedly duping a city woman of over Rs 77 lakh in a 'digital arrest' scam. The accused have been identified as Sajid Ahmed A Patel (30), and Shayeed Rafiq Mullah (37), who have been booked in a FIR registered on July 15, at the police station in Cyber Crime, Chandigarh. According to the complaint, the victim received a call on July 10 from a fraudster posing as a crime branch official, who alleged her Aadhaar Card had been misused in a money laundering case linked to Jet Airways CEO Naresh Goyal. The caller, along with accomplices posing as police officers, intimidated her with fake arrest warrants and forged Supreme Court orders over WhatsApp calls. Fearing arrest and threats to her family, she transferred Rs 77,42,420, via four RTGS transactions from her accounts in Canara Bank, PNB, SBI, and HDFC. The police traced the trail through bank KYC and telecom data, identifying Patel's role. On August 14, a police team raided locations in Maharashtra, arresting Patel and recovering a Vivo mobile phone with SIMs, a PAN card, and an SBI ATM card. Based on his disclosure, police arrested Shayeed Mullah and recovered two Samsung Fold 5 phones, an Oppo phone, Aadhaar and PAN cards, a Federal Bank ATM card, and a driving licence. Police have secured a lien amount of Rs 20,16,300 in the accused bank accounts. Custody has been sought for forensic analysis of recovered devices to trace the larger nexus.

CBI court sentences Head Constable to seven-year imprisonment in graft case

A special CBI court of Chandigarh Wednesday sentenced a Chandigarh Police Head Constable to seven-year imprisonment in a graft case. The convict, Ram Kumar, a Head Constable, was held guilty under Section 7 as well as Section 13(1) (d) (ii) punishable under Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict. A detailed judgment was yet to be released in the matter. As per the prosecution, the case dates back to 2017 when Ram Kumar, who had been posted as a head constable at Sarangpur police station, was booked by the CBI. Kumar was held in May 2017 by the sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman, who was named in an FIR of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. The policeman was caught from a residential area in Sarangpur. The accused was taking the bribe for not taking any action against the woman, whose husband Shiv Nath had already been arrested in the case. The complainant and her husband were booked for assaulting their relative Guru Narayan on March 3. The FIR was registered at the Sarangpur police station and the investigation was being conducted by Kumar. Following all this, Kumar had demanded Rs 18,000 from the complainant but later the deal was struck for Rs 10,000. When Kumar went to take the bribe amount, the CBI sleuths reached the spot and caught the cop and recovered the bribe money from him. During the trial in court, the defence counsel argued that Kumar had been falsely implicated in the case and had no involvement in the matter. The court, however, after hearing the arguments held the accused guilty.

Thackeray alliance gets zero in Mumbai BEST Credit Society election, BJP leader's panel wins seven of 21 seats

The Mumbai BEST Credit society elections, perceived to be politically significant on the background of the upcoming local body elections, saw the victory of Shashank Rao panel which won 14 of the 21 seats. Significantly, the Thackeray cousins, who had fought the election together as a single panel, could not secure a single seat. Another panel, led by BJP leaders Prasad Lad and Pravin Darekar, secured seven seats. The ruling alliance claimed that the Thackerays has failed the litmus test before the upcoming elections. The elections to the Mumbai BEST Credit Society, which has a membership of over 17,000, was held after a period of nine years. It was controlled by the Shiv Sena (UBT) till before the elections. 'It was the Thackerays who had made this political. We were looking at it as a credit society's election. Now, it seems like the people have rejected the Thackeray brand,' Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said. 'Those who raise doubts about EVMs have received a befitting answer. The people of Maharashtra have decided that those who work should be given the opportunity to work, and those who sit at home should be made to sit at home,' Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde taunted the Thackerays after the result on Wednesday (August 20, 2025). The Thackeray cousins had contested under 'Utkarsh' panel, which had fielded 21 candidates. The 'Sahakar Samruddhi' panel was fielded by BJP leaders Prasad Lad and Praveen Darekar. Shashank Rao, a union leader, had fielded his candidates under the Shashank Rao panel. 'It is wrong to consider this a litmus test. This cannot be compared to the BMC elections,' Sandeep Deshpande, MNS leaders, said. He had earlier claimed that money was distributed during the campaign. Shiv Sena UBT leader Suhas Samant too claimed that his party could not stand against the money power. Shashank Rao, after winning the election, slammed Uddhav Thackeray and claimed that the result was a reply by the BEST workers against the Shiv Sena UBT's policy of privatisation, against playing with the future of the employees and diverting the gratuity funds to fill the coffers of the favourite contractors. 'It is not just about this election. Basically, the whole focus is always on what you do. Credit society was not the issue. This time, we got into the campaign very late. But the workers were really agitated with the condition which was created. The recruitments were pending for years, employees had not received the benefits of the Seventh Pay Commission. Several retired employees had not received their gratuity for three years,' he told The Hindu. He said that of the 17,000 members, 15,093 employees were enrolled as voters. 'Each winning panelist got more than 4000 votes,' he said.
