'How many Rafale jets shot down by Pak?' asks Revanth Reddy; BJP responds

BJP leaders Amit Malviya and Sambit Patra on Friday came down heavily on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for their remarks on the Rafale fighter jets, accusing them of echoing Pakistan's line and questioning the Indian armed forces.
At a rally in Telangana on Thursday, Reddy had demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi explain how many Rafale fighter jets were shot down by Pakistan during the recent conflict. He also criticised the BJP government for not convening an all-party meeting before ending the conflict and accused the government of failing to deliver on national security promises, including the retrieval of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Rahul Gandhi too had raised questions on X: 'EAM Jaishankar's silence isn't just telling, it's damning. So I'll ask again: How many Indian aircraft did we lose because Pakistan knew? This wasn't a lapse. It was a crime. And the nation deserves the truth.'
'Saboot gang active again', says BJP
Addressing a press conference on Friday, BJP MP Sambit Patra charged that while the Congress claims to support the nation, its leaders repeatedly undermine the military. 'The 'saboot gang' (evidence gang) is at it again,' Patra said, referring to Congress leaders' frequent calls for proof of India's military actions.
'Instead of asking how many Pakistani air bases were destroyed or how many terrorists were killed, Rahul Gandhi is only interested in knowing how many Indian planes were shot down,' Patra said, adding, 'Yeh jo Pakistan ke babbar hain, woh Hindustan ke gabbar hain.'
Patra also accused Congress of sympathising with terrorists. 'Sonia Gandhi cried for slain terrorists. Rahul Gandhi celebrated after 26/11. Now, Revanth Reddy, Rahul Gandhi, and Jairam Ramesh are questioning how many Indian aircraft were lost,' he said.
Patra informed, India destroyed nine terror camps and 11 Pakistani air bases, and satellite images were shown as proof. 'If a Rafale had crashed, there would be wreckage and proof. There is none,' he said, accusing Congress of sowing doubt.
'Pakistan ki Hind yatra' jibe
Criticising the Congress' 'Jai Hind Yatra', Patra said, 'It's beginning to look like 'Pakistan ki Hind Yatra'. There are now two factions in Congress, one that openly supports Pakistan and another that wants to stand with India but is silenced by leaders like Rahul Gandhi. They should stop this yatra and hold a joint press conference with Pakistan instead.'
'Cong sourcing intel from WhatsApp': Amit Malviya
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya shared similar views on social media. In a post on X, he wrote, 'After Rahul Gandhi, now Telangana Chief Minister and Congress leader Revanth Reddy asks - 'How many Rafale jets did Pakistan shoot down?' It is honestly astonishing how out of depth these leaders are when it comes to matters of national security.'

Malviya argued that if Pakistan had actually downed a Rafale, there would have been evidence such as satellite images, wreckage, or confirmations from international agencies — just as India had provided evidence for its own military operations.
'But instead of standing with our armed forces, Congress leaders seem to be sourcing their 'intel' from WhatsApp forwards, social media speculation, or worse — their imagination. They sound more like Pakistan's PR team than India's opposition,' he said.
'It is almost like the questions Pakistan would love to ask are now being asked, conveniently, by the Congress party. Whether by ignorance or design, they're playing right into enemy hands. And they're doing a splendid job at it,' Malviya said.

US Speaker reacts to Indian-American Megha Vemuri's pro-Palestine speech: 'Have your children avoid MIT'

Speaker Mike Johnson reacted to Indian-origin Megha Vemuri's pro-Palestine speech at the commencement ceremony and called it ignorant, hateful and morally bankrupt. Johnson also took MIT to task as he questioned why the institute has not properly responded to it. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Speaker was reacting to a post by MAGA commentator Megyn Kelly who criticized Vemuri's apathy to the Jewish students attending the ceremony. "have your children avoid MIT & the Ivy League at all costs," Johnson wrote. "So this woman hijacks the MIT graduation to make the whole thing about her personal beliefs about Israel, any insult to the Jewish students or others in attendance be damned. Selfish, self-aggrandizing, disrespectful & RUDE," Megyn Kelly wrote on X as Megha Vemuri's speech condemning her alma mater for its Israeli ties drew mixed response -- several of her classmates cheered and also protested Friday as MIT banned Vemuri from attending the rest of the event. MAGA commentators, some Indian commentators and many Jewish students criticized Vemuri and questioned why she needed to do that. Vemuri gave a different speech to the MIT administration which was approved but on the stage, she delivered a different one praising her classmates for protesting against Israel. "Last spring, MIT's undergraduate body and graduate student union voted overwhelmingly to cut ties with the genocidal Israeli military. You called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. And you stood in solidarity with the pro-Palestinian activists on campus. You faced threats, intimidation and suppression coming from all directions, especially your own university officials," Vemuri said. Jewish students walked out of the speech as Vemuri accused MIT of being complicit in the "ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people". What MIT said on Vemuri's speech Vemuri was barred from attending the rest of the event while MIT said they support free expression but they don't stand by what Vemuri did. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "With regard to MIT's Commencement 2025 activities, the speech delivered by a graduating senior at Thursday's OneMIT Commencement Ceremony was not the one that was provided by the speaker in advance. While that individual had a scheduled role at today's Undergraduate Degree Ceremony, she was notified that she would not be permitted at today's events," an MIT spokesperson said Friday. "MIT supports free expression but stands by its decision, which was in response to the individual deliberately and repeatedly misleading Commencement organizers and leading a protest from the stage, disrupting an important Institute ceremony," MIT said.

Bangladeshi tribunal to hear charges against ousted PM Hasina; proceedings to be broadcast live on state TV

Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal is set to formally hear charges against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday allowing state run BTV to broadcast live the event, a first such instance in the country's history. read more Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal will officially begin hearing charges against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday, with state-run BTV set to broadcast the proceedings live—a first in the country's history. Hasina, who was removed from office on August 5 last year following widespread student protests, is facing several cases in Bangladeshi courts that have so far prohibited photography and live telecasts of her trial. However, the decision of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) to allow live streaming is set to break the tradition in the case of Hasina, who could face the death penalty on the charges brought against her. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The three-judge tribunal had earlier ordered on February 18 that the investigation against Hasina be completed by April. 'The prosecution will submit formal charges against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina at the ICT-BD tomorrow in a case filed over crimes against humanity committed during the July-August 2024 mass uprising,' the state-run BSS said. Hasina's Awami League regime was ousted in after mass protests led by a platform called Students against Discrimination (SAD) on August 5, 2024; three days later Muhamad Yunus took charge as Chief Adviser of the interim government. ICT-BD prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim told reporters that the tribunal's proceedings would start at 9.30 am local time and that the official Bangladesh Television (BTV) has been asked to broadcast the proceedings live. 'The entire nation will witness the submission of the first formal charges to the tribunal against influential figures of the ousted Awami League government, including Sheikh Hasina,' Gazi said, adding that the move would 'ensure transparency in the judicial process'. ICT-BD's chief prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said the tribunal would simultaneously hear charges against former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, both in jail to stand trial. This tribunal was originally formed by the past regime to try hardened collaborators of Pakistani troops during the 1971 Liberation War. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Six top leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and one leader of the former prime minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were hanged to death after they were convicted by the court. The ICT-BD earlier issued an arrest warrant against Hasina while the interim government sought her repatriation from India in a diplomatic note. New Delhi has only acknowledged receipt with no further comment. Most senior leaders and officials of Hasina's party and government were arrested to face charges like mass murders to tame the protestors during the July-August violence when hundreds of people, including students and policemen were killed. According to a UN rights office report some 1,400 people were killed between July 15 and August 15 last year as violence continued even after the fall of the past regime. With inputs from agencies

India does not send dossiers any more, we only give a befitting reply, says Nadda

Bharatiya Janata Party national president J.P. Nadda on Saturday (May 31, 2025) said a safe and strong India is marching ahead under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership after the display of the nation's power during Operation Sindoor. 'The operation has only been halted, while the fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism will continue,' Mr. Nadda said. Mr. Nadda was on a day's visit to Jaipur to participate in the celebrations marking the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the former queen of the Malwa kingdom, attend the BJP's 'Tiranga Yatra', and interact with the party workers. He spoke at two functions at the Rajasthan International Centre (RIC) and the Entertainment Paradise Hall, besides addressing the BJP workers at the Sanganer airport. Mr. Nadda said India had made it clear through its surgical strikes [in Pakistan], air strikes and Operation Sindoor that a 'befitting reply' would be given to the attackers by entering their own territory. 'India does not send dossiers [to Pakistan] any more, like the one after the 26/11 attack. Modi ji doesn't complain, he executes what he says,' he said. The new normal The BJP president said the Operation Sindoor, which had demonstrated India's military capability, had handed down a punishment to Pakistan 'beyond its imagination', as promised by Mr. Modi. 'Nine terror hotspots, including the headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammed, were destroyed in 22 minutes. Eleven air bases [in Pakistan] were also destroyed. This is the new normal,' he said. While affirming that Operation Sindoor would continue as long as Pakistan nurtures terrorism, Mr. Nadda called upon the BJP workers to apprise the people of the party's national security policy, and come forward to defend the nation. Disburses aid At the women's empowerment programme at RIC, Mr. Nadda flagged off 150 Kalika patrolling units of the Rajasthan Police and transferred financial assistance to the beneficiaries of Lakhpati Didi Yojana, Lado Protsahan Yojana, SC/ST pre-matric scholarship scheme, and the distance education scheme. He also launched the Swasth Nari Chetana Abhiyan and the Garbh Pathshala Yojana on the occasion. Mr. Nadda, who holds the Health & Family Welfare portfolio as a Minister in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre, said the culture of politics had changed in the country after 2014. 'Instead of blame game, every section of society is being empowered now,' he said. 'Modiji has made accountability and responsibility the new definitions of politics. We are willing to give report cards for our work… The double-engine government in Rajasthan is engaged in public service with its new schemes for all sections of society,' Mr. Nadda said. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Bhagirath Choudhary, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, and BJP State president Madan Rathore were among those who attended functions along with Mr. Nadda. Mr. Nadda also visited the Raj Bhavan to meet Governor Haribhau Bagade.
