Rhoden obtains ICE partnership with Highway Patrol
SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol will now assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with their operations, a news release from the governor's office said.
Both the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Highway Patrol applied for a U.S. Immgration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) program called 287(g), which trains and certifies certain officers with specified immigration duties, with limitations and oversight depending on the agreement's terms.

KELOLAND's Maddie Paul broke down the program's provisions after Rhoden announced his intention to obtain immigration authority for law enforcement last week.
'This Memorandum of Agreement will allow our Highway Patrol to assist ICE in the identification and apprehension of illegal aliens who may pose a risk to public safety in South Dakota,' Rhoden said in a news release.
ICE activity increased in South Dakota, after agents arrested eight people in Madison at Manitou Equipment and Global Polymer Industries in May.

Three dozen Chinese and Taiwanese nationals were arrested following a raid on a southern California "underground nightclub." Video of the arrests by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Los Angeles early Friday morning was shared by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agencies on X. "Early this morning, HSI Los Angeles w/ @EROLosAngeles & partners from the El Camino Real Financial Crimes Task Force conducted an enforcement operation in an underground nightclub," the post reads. "36 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals were arrested for being illegally present in the U.S." The video shows agents on the scene at night before it cuts to daytime footage of a large group of alleged illegal immigrants sitting on a sidewalk prior to being loaded into white vans. No additional details were given by the ICE agencies, and a request by Fox News Digital was not immediately answered. The name and location of the nightclub has not been disclosed. On Thursday, ICE announced a "leadership realignment" during increased "enforcement efforts." ICE's Acting Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations Ken Genalo will be retiring after 33 years of service to the agency. "Genalo has served in this acting capacity to help meet the mandate set forth by the American people — his contributions were integral in the successes we're seeing today," ICE Acting Director Todd M. Lyons said in a statement. "He's now going to serve as a special government employee working with field office directors within ICE. I can't thank him enough."

Milford Schools Superintendent: Student detained by ICE
MILFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — The superintendent of Milford, Mass. schools said an 18-year-old student had been detained by ICE agents. 'An 18 year old Milford High School student was detained by ICE agents off campus this weekend. We have also had a number of parents who have been detained by ICE in recent weeks. We are all distraught by this news,' Superintendent Kevin McIntyre said in a statement. WBZ in Boston spoke with a friend of the student who was detained, saying they were headed to volleyball practice when they were pulled over by three undercover vehicles. 'An ICE officer had stepped out of his vehicle, walked over to us, and knocked on the window. And they asked him what his documentation was,' the friend, who did not want to be identified, said. 'I didn't see him run a red light or do anything illegal, we were just on our way.' The friend said he's afraid everything he's built up in his life to be a good community member, may now be in jeopardy. 'I've known this to be a system that kicks out undocumented people for committing crimes, and now it's a system that will just kick you out based on your status.' 'The Milford Public Schools play no part in immigration enforcement and support all of our students and families, including those who are immigrants to the United States,' McIntyre continued in the statement. 'They are members of the community, students in our classrooms, athletes that compete representing Milford, musicians, artists, friends, and neighbors. We will do everything in our power to support our students and families during these difficult times.' Yet again, local officials and law enforcement have been left in the dark with no heads up and no answers to their questions," Healey said in a statement. My heart goes out to the Milford community on what was supposed to be a celebratory graduation day. A student who was in the car said he and three other students were on their way to volleyball practice when three unmarked vehicles pulled them over. The agents interrogated the students about their documentation and took the 18-year-old driver into custody. The student who described the event did not want his name released. He said he is also undocumented and was not taken into ICE custody because he is underage. The student witness said that the 18-year-old driver did not commit any moving violations and there was no reason for ICE to stop the car. Town responds to ICE arrest Milford Public Schools said ICE had detained several parents of students in recent weeks. "We are all distraught by this news," Superintendent of Milford Public Schools Kevin McIntyre said in a statement. "The Milford Public Schools play no part in immigration enforcement and support all of our students and families, including those who are immigrants to the United States. They are members of the community, students in our classrooms, athletes that compete representing Milford, musicians, artists, friends, and neighbors."
