Tribal Advisory Council seeks exclusive ST commission
The meeting was chaired by ministers Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka and Adluri Laxman Kumar.
The meeting also decided to urge the government to extend the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) activities to 'plain areas' where tribal population is relatively high.
The council also recommended sanctioning tribal officer posts for 18 districts and 1,085 teacher posts for residential schools. It also suggested that the Ambedkar Foreign Education Scholarship benefits be extended to 500 students instead of just 100.
It also decided to set up a special IAS study circle for the benefit of Adivasis in Hyderabad. The Council recommended the government sanction additional houses under Indiramma Housing Scheme.
During the meeting, Seethakka said the Congress government is rectifying the mistakes committed by the previous BRS government with regard to tribal welfare.
Alleging that the previous regime had diverted ST sub-plan funds for other works, she instructed the officials to utilise those funds only for the development and welfare of STs.

Day after sit-ups in front of lawyers, IAS officer transferred
LUCKNOW/MEERUT The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday transferred IAS officer Rinku Singh Rahi and attached him to the UP Revenue Board in Lucknow, nearly 36 hours after a video purportedly showing him doing sit-ups, holding his ears in front of protesting lawyers in Shahjahanpur, went viral on Tuesday. Rahi, the newly appointed sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Powayan tehsil in Shahjahanpur, has now been relieved of the post. It's a violation of the All India Services Conduct Rules as well as 'unbecoming of an officer'- an inappropriate act that was not in accordance with the post,' said a senior state government officer. The 2022-batch IAS officer had taken charge as SDM at 11pm on July 28. The following day, during an inspection on the tehsil premises, he spotted a clerk (munshi) of an advocate urinating against a wall. In response, the SDM made the clerk perform sit-ups on the spot, a move that instantly drew attention. Following this incident, Rahi interacted with a group of lawyers staging a protest near the tehsil office. The lawyers expressed their grievances about the appalling condition of toilets on the premises, stating that advocates and clerks were often forced to urinate in the open due to the lack of proper sanitation facilities. Acknowledging their concerns, Rahi reportedly stated that as the senior-most officer of the tehsil, he accepted moral responsibility for the poor hygiene. In a dramatic gesture of accountability, Rahi held his ears and performed five sit-ups in front of the lawyers. While some hailed the act as a bold message of leadership and humility, the gesture went viral on social media and drew mixed reactions. The video triggered a response from higher administrative levels, with the state government seeking a detailed report from the DM on the incident. Following the submission of the report, Rahi was relieved of his duties as SDM and transferred to the Revenue Board in Lucknow. Speaking on the matter, Rinku Singh Rahi confirmed his transfer and clarified his stance. 'Maintaining sanitation is not directly the SDM's responsibility. It was only my first day after joining. I wanted to send a message to the society that when something goes wrong, an officer must show accountability. Transfer is part of the system. I will serve with full commitment wherever the government sends me,' he said.

Nandu Ram, who brought ‘lived experience' into mainstream sociology, significantly changed Dalit discourse
In Silencing the Past, Haitian anthropologist Michel Trouillot showed how diverse histories are silenced during the production and reproduction of mainstream history. These undocumented voices shape the folklore and the everyday narratives of the marginalised. In India, the historical silencing of Dalits, Adivasis, and other communities moved sociologist and former JNU professor Nandu Ram. He documented the unarchived histories — he published the five-volume Encyclopaedia of Scheduled Castes in India — and also brought 'lived experience' into mainstream sociology, significantly changing Dalit discourse. Ram, who died on July 13 aged 78, was born to a family of Dalit labourers in Uttar Pradesh. Having grown up in a village where his family was forced to live on the outskirts, he experienced both spatial segregation and inequality. These experiences, coupled with his understanding of ethnographic nuances, led to the publication of The Mobile Scheduled Caste: Rise of a New Middle Class, where he identified the emergence of a 'Dalit middle class' that was the result of affirmative action and Ambedkarite resistance. His edited anthologies, like Beyond Ambedkar: Essays on Dalits in India and Dalits in Contemporary India, showed how Dalit politics could be read both through and beyond Ambedkar. Though his works were sometimes criticised by scholars for failing to delineate Dalit-OBC relations, Nandu Ram was among the first sociologists who brought Ambedkar into mainstream sociological discourse. In his introductory address at the first Dr Ambedkar Memorial Annual Lecture, Ram said, 'Both the left and right-wing historians of modern India… have almost siphoned the Dalit movement(s) in their writings.' He devoted his life to retrieving and restoring the balance.

Ravindra Kumar Mandar takes charge as Ghaziabad DM; lists out priorities
Ghaziabad The newly appointed Ghaziabad district magistrate (DM) Ravindra Kumar Mandar on Wednesday said that handling public grievances, developing the district through innovation, and also making it clean, green, and pollution-free for an all-round development will be among his priorities. The new DM has previously held different postings in Firozabad, Agra, Mathura, Rampur, Jaunpur, and Prayagraj before taking charge as the district magistrate of Ghaziabad. He also met temple chief priest Mahant Narayan Giri. 'It is the priority and prime responsibility of the administration to cater to public grievances. So, public grievances will be taken up on priority. We will also focus on development projects, and the other focus will be on services and facilities that are lacking and need improvement,' Mandar said. 'As Ghaziabad is an industrial hub, we will ensure that more industrial units come here, and the industrialists do not face issues and get proper facilities. We will also focus on ways to bring more industrial units. We will also review the previous MoUs signed here for setting up of industrial projects/units. We will also pay attention to the traders' issues,' he added. He has replaced Deepak Meena, who has been appointed as the DM of Gorakhpur following a bureaucratic reshuffle announced by the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday. The new DM has previously held different postings in Firozabad, Agra, Mathura, Rampur, Jaunpur, and Prayagraj before taking charge as the district magistrate of Ghaziabad. He was also instrumental in making the Maha Kumbh Mela - 2025 successful when he was posted as district magistrate of Prayagraj. During his posting as district magistrate in Rampur, he launched an initiative enabling surgeries for 61 children with disabilities. He also led a large-scale pond restoration initiative under the Amrit Sarovar scheme. 'We will also publicise the schemes run by the government on a large scale. People will be made aware so that eligible persons can get benefits. We will also focus on different missions including those dealing with environment protection, water conservation, tree plantation, and cleanliness,' the DM added.
