Father's Day golf deals — get the golf gadgets dad wants on sale

Tom's Guide21-05-2025

I don't want to scare you, but Father's Day is rapidly approaching! We're getting to the point where you need to place those online orders to get the stuff you want delivered on time.
Thankfully, if your dad is a golfer, you can get him some slick gadgets that'll help improve his game at large discounts right now. Whether you think your dad would like a GPS golf watch, a Bluetooth speaker, a rangefinder or even a launch monitor, there are deals available that'll make Father's Day memorable (while keeping some extra cash in your pocket).
If your dad is the type of golfer who likes listening to some music on the course, the Wingman Mini GPS Speaker is a good option, as it's small enough to throw in the golf bag and bring for a round but still offers enough sound for outdoor listening. Just tell him to keep the volume to a reasonable level — we know those dads can be party animals.
Some players don't like rangefinders. Sometimes, those players don't like wearing watches on the course. That's where a handheld like this one from Blue Tees comes into play. It gives you the front, center and back distances while fitting nicely in your pocket.
I have to admit that I've never used a Nikon rangefinder, but I've used Nikon cameras, and they feature some of the best lenses in the game. It would only stand to reason that the same tech would apply to rangefinders. Based on the 4.7 user rating, I assume this one is solid, especially at this heavily discounted price.
A golf watch is an excellent investment for the golfer who doesn't mind wearing something on their wrist during the round. This one is more affordable than most of the popular Garmin models on the market, and it still has all the distances your dad will need.
The Mobile Launch Monitor from Rapsodo doesn't have all the same features as a more expensive model, but for this price, it's the perfect device to help your dad dial in his club distances and make more effective use of his time on the driving range.
Bushnell makes some of the best rangefinders on the market, and the Tour V5 Shift brings some of the best features to a more budget-friendly model. It has the visual jolt that lets you know you've locked into the pin and the accuracy for which the company is known.
If your dad needs a more precise rangefinder and only the best will do, the Tour V6 Shift from Bushnell is perfect. It's the most weather-resistant (IPX6) Tour series laser Bushnell has ever offered, which is a nice bonus for dads who like hitting the course in the rain.
We reviewed the Garmin Approach Z30 rangefinder and loved it. We said it's "the most advanced rangefinder we've ever used," and your dad could also have the super advanced tech this Father's Day with $50 off.
In my Garmin Approach R10 Launch Monitor review, I loved the value it offered. It can handle basics like providing distances and other key metrics, but you can also use it to play full simulated golf rounds. At this price, this might be the best Father's Day Deal around for the golfer dad.

Fix the Nintendo Switch 2's biggest design flaw with less than $100 worth of audio gear

I love my new Nintendo Switch 2. The Joy-Cons are more comfortable than the last pair, the 4K TV mode looks amazing on my Samsung S95D, and the top-mounted USB-C charging port allows me to keep my console juiced up while I play in bed with the Switch planted in a pillow. My chosen playing position raises a new issue, however. The speakers are mounted on the bottom, leaving me with muffled audio. The speakers are 'just ok' at the best of times, but now they were next-to-impossible to hear. Enter, then, some of my favorite ways to make my Nintendo Switch 2 sound excellent in handheld mode — and they can all be had for under $100. Nintendo's implementation of Bluetooth might be one of the best of the current crop of consoles. Unlike the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the Switch 2 can connect to any pair of Bluetooth headphones and play game audio wirelessly. This, in my mind at least, is a game changer. You can buy some of the best wireless headphones for under $100, and that means you won't have a dongle awkwardly dangling from the USB-C or headphone port. Even if your preferred headphones don't natively support spatial audio, there's a virtual 360-degree audio option in the Switch 2's settings menu. I found it worked very well as I fought monsters in Rune Factory and raced Peach in Mario Kart World. There are a couple of restrictions. You can't seem to use the mic in your headphones as a headset mic, and if you're a little further away from the switch while wearing your headphones, the connection can get spotty. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. But given the Switch 2's built-in mic is actually really, really good and you're rarely going to be that far from your Switch, these aren't going to cause you any massive issues. Here's how to connect a pair of Bluetooth headphones to your Nintendo Switch 2. The Moondrop Edge are a cheaper pair of headphones, but they feature some great sound quality and decent ANC. They are really comfortable as well, and their style matches the Switch. You can find them for under $100, and they easily connect to your Switch 2 over Bluetooth. Of course, sometimes you don't want to wear a pair of headphones while gaming, and thankfully it's just as easy to pair a Bluetooth speaker as it is to pair some headphones. Using the same connection method as Bluetooth headphones, you can hook up one of the best Bluetooth speakers for a massive jump in sound quality over the Switch's standard speakers. There are some audio-based caveats here, though. The only downsides here are that you'll miss out on the Switch 2's virtual surround sound, and you might find it weird that the game sound comes from somewhere that's not your Switch 2. I found I got over the latter point fairly quickly, though, and the virtual surround was never good enough for me to miss it when it was gone. It's easy to get connected, and it's a great way to get some better sound if you just don't like the thin sound of the Switch 2's internal speakers. This $90 Bluetooth speaker is a great, relatively inexpensive way to make your Switch sound even better. You can even connect two together with a handy button on the speaker for stereo sound while playing. It connects to the switch super easily over Bluetooth. Circumventing the speakers with a pair of headphones or a Bluetooth speaker will definitely result in better sound. But a DAC will be the ultimate upgrade. The DAC I used is actually the Chord Mojo 2, which sets you back more than the system itself. It connects to the USB-C port of the Switch, and then amplifies and improves the audio signal that it then sends to a pair of wired headphones. You don't have to spend the $650 to get the Chord Mojo 2, although you do have to be careful with compatibility. We're still in the early days of Switch 2, and extensive DAC testing hasn't yet taken place. Neither has Nintendo given us a definitive list of DACs that connect to the Switch. I found this Reddit thread helpful when finding out what DACs to use with the Switch 2. The list is small at the moment, although there are likely plenty out there that currently work with the Switch 2. Using the Mojo 2 was completely straightforward — the Switch 2 even recognized it, named it, and then relinquished volume control. I turned off virtual headphone surround for greater compatibility, and then enjoyed excellent sound over my favorite wired headphones; models that wouldn't have sounded anywhere near as good if I just used the system's standard headphone output. Is this for everyone? No, but you can get fairly cheap DACs that will improve the sound of any headphones you plug in. This is a great, cheap dongle DAC that will upgrade the sound of your Switch when you want to use some wired headphones. It connects over either USB-C port on the Switch, so you can still use it if you've got the Switch buried into a pillow (like me), or if it's sitting on its folding stand.

Law to prohibit use of cell phones while driving sent to Governor's desk

BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—House Bill 519 has been sent to Governor Jeff Landry's desk. It would prohibit the use of a cell phone or telecommunication device while operating a vehicle. Currently, texting while driving is against the law. However, HB519, introduced by State Representative Brian Glorioso, will extend the law to prohibit more cell phone-related activities. DWI Checkpoint scheduled for drivers in Shreveport HB519 states that it would be illegal to: Engage in a call, whether talking or listening Write, send, or read a text message, email, or any other message Access, read, or post to a social networking site Access, view, post, edit, or create a video or photograph Access, read, view, compose, or browse any data from an application or other media Hold or physically support a device in either or both hands Darron Kerry, a Patrolman First Class with the Bossier Police Traffic Division, says the proposed law will help deter distracted driving and taking one's eyes off the road to look at a cell phone. 'Let's say you're doing 45 miles an hour. 45 miles an hour is not a high speed, but in that two or three second, doing 45 miles an hour, you have covered anywhere from 150 to 200 feet on the road. And you can imagine what that distance is if you're doing interstate speeds and stuff like that,' said Kerry. He adds that many crashes and accidents that the Bossier Police Department sees involve cell phone use. 'Looking at the phone, watching TV, depending on what type of vehicle they're driving you know a lot of these vehicles they'll stay in the lane for them so they really don't even, don't have to pay attention the way they look at it, is they don't have to pay attention to the road, and it's a big big safety issue,' said Kerry. Exceptions to the proposed law include use of a cell phone or telecommunication device if a vehicle is autonomous, if the vehicle is lawfully stationary or stopped, and if the device is used hands-free with Bluetooth or an attachment. You're considered a 'distracted driver' if you do this Kerry clarifies that being at a stop sign or a red light does not qualify as being lawfully stationary. 'You're sitting at a red light, you say Oh, I got time to check my phone. Well, the light turns green, you stay sitting at the light, the person behind you is looking at their phone, and they run into the back of you. As long as you are physically in control of that vehicle, you cannot have your cell phone in your hand,' said Kerry. Motorists would be allowed to use a cell phone when dialing 9-1-1 to report a traffic collision, medical emergency, or serious road hazard, or to report a situation in which they believe an individual is in jeopardy of serious injury or death. 'The consequences can all be the same whether you're a drunk driver or you're a distracted driver. People get killed by drunk drivers and people get killed by using a cell phone,' said Kerry.
