Tripura Government Directs NHIDCL To Finish National Highway Repairs Before Durga Puja
Senior officials, including Public Works Department (PWD) Secretary Kiran Gitte and representatives from state PWD and NHIDCL, recently inspected the affected areas to assess the situation firsthand. Gitte emphasized the urgent need to restore the highway, confirming that NHIDCL has been instructed to finish all pending repair work before the festival to prevent public inconvenience.
Additionally, Chief Minister Manik Saha had earlier reviewed the condition of roads across the state and called for urgent repairs, particularly on national highways under NHIDCL's purview. The state authorities highlighted that roads managed by the state PWD are generally in better condition compared to those executed by NHIDCL through subcontractors.
Efforts are underway to secure the involvement of high-level officials from NHIDCL and the central government in overseeing quality and ensuring long-term solutions, including the construction of resilient RCC roads to withstand heavy rainfall in the future.

Rain triggers multiple landslides, road closure on NH-10
1 2 Darjeeling: Heavy rain over 24 hours triggered multiple landslides along NH-10 on Monday and Tuesday, causing the Teesta river to swell and prompting authorities to temporarily divert traffic towards Kalimpong and Sikkim. No casualties were reported and traffic movement along the Darjeeling–Kalimpong stretch of NH-10 resumed on Tuesday evening. The relentless downpour led to mudslides in Ghante Golai 10th Mile and Tarkhola, while rising water levels of the Teesta disrupted traffic near Teesta Bazar and Ravi Jhora. Over 24 hours, Darjeeling recorded 32.4mm of rain, Siliguri 23mm, Kurseong 16.2mm, and Mirik 15.2mm. The Mahananda river's water level rose to 112.9m, slightly below the danger mark of 115.98m. "Muck was cleared at Teesta More and single-lane traffic resumed at Tarkhola. Earthmovers were deployed to aid the ongoing restoration. If there are no further landslides or rainfall, we expect full restoration by Wednesday. As of now, traffic along NH-10 and the Darjeeling–Kalimpong route is operational," said NHIDCL general manager Rahul Kumar Gupta. The temporary diversion on NH-10 caused major inconvenience for travellers to Sikkim and Kalimpong. Manisha M Tamang, a resident of Kalimpong, said: "I arrived from Delhi on a morning flight and only found out about the road closure after landing. There were no vehicles available from Bagdogra, so I had to go all the way to Panitanki More to find a taxi to Kalimpong. The taxi charged me Rs 400 — double the usual fare." Sunil Shankar, who was heading to Sikkim, said he cancelled his trip due to road closure and extra fare.

New Delhi: Commuting woes between Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport's terminals 3/2 and T1 are finally on the authorities' radar. Delhi govt plans to appoint a consultant to study the feasibility and prepare a detailed project report for constructing a Y-shaped flyover and widening the tunnel road under the runway, according to sources. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) officials recently met PWD minister Parvesh Verma, who subsequently sent a team to the site for inspection and set the ball rolling to study and implement the proposal that had been gathering dust for years. "Minister Verma assured us of action in terms of appointing a consultant for the twin project," said a source. With T1 handling four crore passengers annually (CPA), the volume of transit traffic has risen exponentially. Moreover, DIAL's proposed air train has also been delayed, with no sign of work on it beginning anytime soon. To handle the volume of transit traffic between T3/2 and T1 till an air train is ready, DIAL had proposed a Y-shaped flyover connecting the Northern Access Road to the road leading to Dwarka on one side and Indira Gandhi Road that leads to Dhaula Kuan and Vasant Vihar on the other. While the proposed flyover would make the commute between T1 and T3 signal-free at the currently choked NSG junction on T1 and Indira Gandhi roads, coping with the increased vehicular movement will require widening the Northern Access Road that links the two terminals. This includes the existing six-lane tunnel road (three lanes for each direction) that is proposed to be doubled by having an additional six-lane underpass section. It is learnt the entire project will cost Rs 300-350 crore. As the road belongs to PWD, DIAL has approached both the Delhi and central govts.
