Ellen DeGeneres wants to revive her career because she's 'a bit bored'
The TV host's long-running series The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended in 2022 after 19 seasons on-air and she is now living in the UK countryside with her wife Portia de Rossi after they moved to the Cotswolds from California in November and Ellen revealed she's busy looking after her menagerie of farm animals which includes horses, sheep and chickens, but she's thinking about what to do next.
Speaking to TV presenter Richard Bacon during her In Conversation with Ellen DeGeneres event at Cheltenham's Everyman theatre, Ellen explained: "I mean, I wish it [the talk show format worked], because I would do the same thing here [in the UK].
"I would love to do that again, but I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren't really paying attention as much to televisions, because we're so inundated with with information and entertainment."
Ellen added: "[I'll pick my next career move] very carefully. I just don't know what that is yet. I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens but I'm a little bit bored."
Ellen's TV show ended following a slew of allegations about a "toxic" atmosphere onset - which prompted an on-air apology from the star - but she fears she will forever be painted as "mean".
She explained: "It's as simple as, I'm a direct person, and I'm very blunt, and I guess sometimes that means that ... I'm mean? ...
"How dare us [women] have any kind of mood, or you can't be anything other than nice and sweet and kind and submissive and complacent ...
"I don't think I can say anything that's ever going to get rid of that [reputation] or dispel it, which is hurtful to me. I hate it. I hate that people think that I'm that because I know who I am and I know that I'm an empathetic, compassionate person ...
"[It] certainly an unpleasant way to end [the talk show]."

Dubbed the 'Kitesbridge Farm', the estate also features a two-bedroom guest cottage equipped with a kitchen and sitting room, as well as a 'heated' five-car garage that comes with its own kitchenette. The house also has a 'party barn' with a bar, a heated indoor swimming pool, a gym, a kitchen garden, and multiple outdoor living areas. A helicopter shed is also included. News of the listing comes just days after the comedian confirmed she and de Rossi decided to pack up and move to the UK because of President Donald Trump's re-election. DeGeneres detailed her new life across the pond during a conversation with British host Richard Bacon onstage in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, Sunday, per the BBC. Admitting that the pair had initially only planned to stay in the UK for a couple of months, they ultimately pulled the trigger on a permanent move in November following Trump's historic win over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. 'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in,' ' she said. 'And we're like, 'We're staying here.' '

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi are selling their home in the UK just a year after they bought it because they needed more space. The couple moved to Britain in 2024 and snapped up a 43-acre estate in the Cotswolds for £20 million, but they have now put the property on the market for £22.5 million because they needed to move to a bigger house to accommodate Portia's horses which they have flown over from the US. The publication reports the couple spent four and a half months renovating the property and only lived there for around four weeks before moving out. It comes after Ellen admitted she "loves" living in the UK. The couple had previously planned to only spend a few months in the country but soon decided to make the move permanent . Speaking to TV presenter Richard Bacon during her In Conversation with Ellen DeGeneres event at Cheltenham's Everyman theatre on July 20, Ellen explained: "It's absolutely beautiful. We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture - everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life. "It's clean. Everything here is just better - the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. "We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here." Ellen went on to explain they have moved Portia's beloved horses over from the US and they have expanded their animal menagerie. She added: "Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks."
