First MasterChef episodes air after Gregg Wallace and John Torode sacked

BreakingNews.ie2 days ago
Gregg Wallace and John Torode's final series of amateur MasterChef has landed on BBC iPlayer after both presenters were dropped from the popular cooking show.
The first three episodes of the 21st series were released on iPlayer early on Wednesday morning, ahead of the first episode airing on BBC One at 8pm.

Both presenters can be seen in the introduction shots of episode one, with Torode saying: 'This is the sort of stuff that dreams are made of', while Wallace can be seen telling a contestant 'that is a cracker of a job'.

In November 2024 it was announced that Wallace would step away from his role on the BBC cooking show while historical allegations of misconduct were investigated, and last month a statement from Banijay UK and the BBC said they had agreed 'Mr Wallace's return to MasterChef is untenable'.
Wallace issued an apology saying he was 'deeply sorry for any distress caused' and that he 'never set out to harm or humiliate' in the wake of the Lewis Silkin review that saw 45 out of 83 allegations made against him upheld.
Torode was the subject of an allegation about using racist language that was upheld as part of the Lewis Silkin review, but the TV star said he had 'no recollection of the incident' and was 'shocked and saddened' by the allegation.

Last month the BBC confirmed the series, which was filmed last year before allegations against Wallace and Torode were upheld, would be broadcast in August, adding that it had 'not been an easy decision in the circumstances.'
The BBC added that 'broadcasting this series is the right thing to do for these cooks who have given so much to the process. We want them to be properly recognised and give the audience the choice to watch the series.'
But the corporation said a decision had not yet been made regarding the celebrity series and the Christmas special.

In episode one of the new series, contestants Thea, Penelope, Gemma, Gon, Shaun and Beth battle it out in the first task before two of the contestants are put through to the quarter-finals.

The remaining four cook again and Thea tears up during the task and says she 'didn't realise how stressful the MasterChef kitchen is'.
Three of the contestants go through to the quarter-finals after another task sees them cook a two-course menu for three former MasterChef stars.
In episode two, a host of new contestants – Charlie, Claire, Finley, Gifty, Jordan and Ruth – are asked to transform an everyday ingredient into a meal within 80 minutes.
The contestants are then tasked with completing two more challenges as they are whittled down to three quarter-finalists.

The six remaining contestants compete in the first quarter-final in episode three, where they are tasked with one challenge, to cook a dish that will impress restaurant critic William Sitwell.
Sitwell's brief, to use either a sweet ingredient in a savoury dish, or a savoury ingredient in a sweet dish, inspires contestant Claire to cook a chocolate steak with marshmallow sweet potato fluff.
After the challenge, three of the contestants are sent home with the remaining three sent to the knockout week.

A message on the BBC media centre, alongside interviews with the contestants, said: 'Please note this information is accurate at the time of filming, certain aspects may have since changed but this represents the contributors as the competition starts.'

One of this year's contestants, Sarah Shafi, asked to be edited out of the series.
Asked whether the new series of MasterChef should be shown, Lisa Nandy told BBC Breakfast: 'It's absolutely not for me, as the Culture Secretary and a member of the Government, to tell broadcasters what they can and can't broadcast.'
Asked what she thought as a viewer, she said: 'As a viewer, I won't be watching it.'
She added: 'I've watched MasterChef on and off over the years, but I certainly won't be watching this series.'
In an interview with The Sun last month Wallace apologised to anyone hurt by his behaviour, but insisted he is 'not a groper, a sex pest or a flasher'.

Strictly Come Dancing's Vito Coppola's heartbreaking admission as he 'walks away'

Vito Coppola has candidly shared his decision to part ways with a dance coach early in his career, receiving an overwhelming response from fans who appreciated his emotional revelation. The professional dancer is widely recognised and loved for his role on Strictly Come Dancing, having become a part of the cast in 2022. In his inaugural year, Vito made it to the final with Fleur East, before securing the title alongside former Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach in 2023. He then reached the final once more in 2024, this time partnered with actress Sarah Hadland. It's been confirmed that Vito will be gracing the ballroom again later this year for the 23rd series of Strictly. The BBC has unveiled the line-up of professional dancers for the 2025 season of the beloved dance show, with Vito joining Katya Jones, Nadiya Bychkova, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Neil Jones, and Nikita Kuzmin, according to the Manchester Evening News, reports Wales Online. Also making a comeback are Dianne Buswell, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, and Michelle Tsiakkas, while two new professionals will be introduced closer to the series launch. Prior to his return to Strictly, Vito was preparing to tour the country with Dianne Buswell in their joint-headline tour this summer. However, a recent trip back to Italy has led the dance star to reflect on his past. The Italian star took to Instagram with a video from the Bafta Television Awards red carpet, greeting his fans: "Good day, beautiful people!". He then shared a personal anecdote: "Today, I want to share a little story from my past. Back when I used to compete, I had a coach who was harsh with me every time I didn't follow his instructions to the letter." (Image: PA) He reflected on his individualistic nature: "The thing is, as many of you know, I'm a free transparent, and true to myself. That kind of personality doesn't always sit well with people who want control." Recounting a pivotal moment with his coach, he said: "One day, that coach told me: 'If you just follow your instincts, you're going to fail!' Those words were powerful and dangerous. But in that moment, I made a choice: I would never let someone else's beliefs define my reality!". He concluded with a message of self-love and determination: "So I walked away, not out of weakness, but out of love and respect for myself. I didn't know exactly where I was going or what I was doing, but I knew one thing: it felt right!". Vito expressed his heartfelt thanks, saying: "Today, I just want to say thank you to those who truly believe in me, love me, and support me every step of the way. I'm deeply means more than you can imagine. Sharing my experience is my way of telling you: YOU MATTER. WE MATTER. EVERYONE MATTERS! Never lose your smile, and always believe in yourself first. Most importantly, surround yourself with the right people, those who are real, genuine, and loyal. The kind of people with whom even a simple dinner of bread and water feels like a feast. That's true wealth!". He continued: "Always stay true to yourself, follow your instincts and your know that you're already a winner! And if anyone tries to hold you back? Show them what you're made of! Choose kindness and love... and remember to smile! V." The outpouring of support was immediate. @mmmyummystrawberries said: "I literally feel like standing up and applauding out loud reading that! Every word you said is so true. Always follow your gut, always stay true to yourself and do what's right for you. With you always." @jt_taylor73 added: "Well done @vitocoppola that must've been so hard! But look where you are now! Beautiful inside and out, smashing life." @caitlinwestiexoxo simply said: "We love you Vito! !". And @ms_lou_rob offered wrote: "That's such brilliant advice. Thank you @vitocoppola for just being you. Have a fantastic day." A user named @maureenstephenson71 responded: "Thank you for sharing your story you certainly haven't failed staying true to yourself is the best advice you can give, you are an a amazing person."

Destination X star details debilitating hidden health condition as BBC series became ‘ultimate challenge'

The Destination X contestant saw the BBC gameshow as the "ultimate challenge" to help her overcome it. Destination X contestant Chloe-Anne has opened up about a health condition that has impacted her since childhood, as she hoped to overcome it while taking part in the BBC series. ‌ The historian from Oxford was one of 13 strangers battling it out on Rob Brydon's new gameshow. The show sees them travel across Europe and take part in challenges to try and find out where they are. ‌ In a Traitors-style twist, Chloe-Anne was eliminated from the competition in the very first episode, only to be brought back into the game earlier this week. ‌ However, it was only for a short stint, as she lost out on the £100,000 cash prize when she failed to correctly guess the location after a series of tense challenges in episodes that aired earlier this week. Despite losing her spot in the show, Chloe-Anne has revealed that she did complete what she set out to do in overcoming her anxiety. In an exclusive interview, the 27-year-old shared: 'I grew up with crippling anxiety, like I had such bad anxiety when I was growing up that I couldn't go into a cinema without screaming, crying, or throwing up and running out, it was really extreme claustrophobia and anxiety. 'When I was about 15 years old, I developed this phrase to help me get through it, which is 'Be more Tiger-Lily than Wendy'. I wanted to be more like Tiger-Lily from Peter Pan than Wendy because Wendy was this wimp who couldn't do anything by herself and just cried all the time, and I just felt like she was me, and I didn't want to be her. 'I wanted to be this badass warrior princess like Tiger Lily, who could do absolutely anything, and I felt like this was the final challenge to that. I've come so far with being more Tiger Lily than Wendy, and this was the ultimate way of proving to myself you really can do anything like this.' ‌ As a teenager, Chloe-Anne worked to overcome her anxiety, starting with smaller challenges, even just taking herself to the cinema. She then went into public speaking and is now becoming an aerialist and hanging herself from the ceiling to do circus tricks. With plans to write historical fiction, pursue a PhD, and launch a social media series featuring historical facts from every country in the world, the star has taken major steps to overcome her anxiety but saw Destination X as her 'ultimate challenge.' ‌ Chloe-Anne had previously applied for The Traitors and wanted to try her hand at Destination X not only to overcome her anxiety but also as a tribute to her grandmother, who had a huge influence on her life and with whom she spent time doing puzzle books growing up. She told us: 'My grandmother was a huge part of my life growing up and she's always been a huge inspiration for me. She passed away almost exactly a year before the filming of the show, and we used to do puzzle books and riddles together, and she always used to love doing stuff like that with me. It felt like a bit of a sign with the timing of it a little bit.' ‌ Reflecting on her experience as a whole, Chloe-Anne said it was 'phenomenal' and a 'whirlwind', despite feeling 'gutted' by her exit. 'It was a very strange experience in that it both felt like it was a really, really long period of time and a really short period of time at the same time. 'It feels like a crazy amount happened in a really short period of time, but yeah, it was phenomenal, a completely unforgettable experience. 'It was like nothing else that is going to happen to me again, probably, or has ever happened before.'
