Celtic fans issued Adam Idah plea after recent criticism

Glasgow Times7 days ago
This plea comes from Don Goodman, a former English footballer turned pundit.
Idah played a part in both of Celtic's Scottish Premiership victories over St Mirren and Aberdeen.
Despite a 20-goal tally last season, Idah has yet to score this campaign and has faced criticism from fans.
Mr Goodman told Compare.bet: "I would say it's difficult to be critical of a player after two games, which is what the Celtic fans might be basing their criticism off the back of.
"Or maybe it was last season's performances, but he scored 20 goals in 53 games."
Mr Goodman acknowledged Celtic's history of "fantastic strikers" such as Mark Viduka and Henrik Larsson but cautioned against comparing the Republic of Ireland striker to those past stars.
He added: "All I know is that he's a Celtic fan.
"So, he'll be desperate to do well at Celtic Football Club.
"But from Brendan Rodgers' perspective, I think they look a little bit light in that area to me."
The pundit noted the ongoing transfer window, suggesting there may be another striker coming in, but emphasised that Idah shouldn't be dismissed just yet.
He added: "Like I said, he scored 20 goals in 53 games last season.
"I don't think he's a prolific scorer in general terms, but it's hard to be critical after two games, I would say."

FCSB owner in blast at captain ahead of Aberdeen clash

Aberdeen face the Romanian side in the Europa League play-offs with the first leg at Pittodrie ahead of a trip to the national stadium for the return. But after the Dons eased through to the quarter finals of the Premier Sports Cup with a comfortable win at Morton, Steaua were being held to a 2-2 draw with city rivals Rapid to leave them floundering in 13th place out of 16 after just one league win in six games in the Romanian league. Madcap owner and president Becali - the former politician who was jailed for three years after a corruption scandal 12 years ago - makes no secret of his policy to personally pick the team and make substitutions. And he made clear why he hauled off his own captain, Romanian international Darius Olaru, at the break. He said: "He lost all his duels. Read more: "And if you lose all your tackles, you can't play for us. "It was better for him to come off so he could recover. "And he also made a mistake. "It didn't matter if we were attacking or defending, he lost all his battles. "But his replacement, Baba Alhassan, was fantastic. "Olaru needs to recover from that, because he is our main player. "If we want to do something in Europe, it is difficult without Olaru."

Celtic transfer blow as summer target set to STAY at current club amid injury crisis

But one attacking option the Hoops were interested in looks like it's about to be taken off the board. Kyogo Furuhashi had left in January while Jota suffered a long-term injury. Nicolas Kuhn then moved on to Como in a bumper £17million deal so it's been an area of the park Rodgers has been keen to add to. Japanese striker Shin Yamada has been brought in as well as young forward Callum Osmand from Fulham. Benji Nygren arrived from Nordsjaelland too, but he's been deployed in a midfield role so far by the Celts. Italian striker Giuseppe Ambrosino emerged as a Celtic target last month. SunSport told you in early July how Ambrosino and Yamada were both on the Hoops' radar. Yamada has been signed and sealed but it doesn't look like Ambrosino will be moving to Parkhead. Several other clubs were also interested in the 21-year old Napoli frontman. It looked likely Ambrosino would move on this summer, whether that be to Celtic or elsewhere. Sarmiento launch a throw back shirt design inspired by Celtic However, it now looks like he'll be staying put in Naples. Napoli find themselves quite light up front with Gianluca Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone both leaving. They have signed towering centre-forward Lorenzo Lucca on loan from Udinese but as it stands he's the club's ONLY fit striker. Napoli's star striker Romelu Lukaku has suffered a thigh injury and the early indication is that it isn't a minor problem. As a result, it's thought Antonio Conte could delve into the transfer market on the eve of the new Serie A season. Until that happens though, the Napoli boss will have to work with what he's got. And that means it's likely Ambrosino will stay. According to Napoli Calcio, Ambrosino could be about to get a 'real opportunity' given the club's current plight. Napoli have tested Kevin de Bruyne as an emergency measure as a false nine but look likely to give Ambrosino a chance.
