Marcus Rashford accepts he will NEVER play for Manchester United again
Marcus Rashford has ambitions to play in next season's Champions League and wants to leave Manchester United in the summer following his loan spell with Aston Villa
Marcus Rashford has accepted that he will never play for Manchester United again. England star Rashford, on loan at Aston Villa until the end of the season, knows he has no future at United while Rubem Amorim is in charge and is therefore plotting his next career move.
Rashford scored his fourth goal since making the switch to Villa in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat for Unai Emery's side at Manchester City, to continue his upturn in form since leaving United. Although Rashford is under contract at United until 2028, head coach Amorim does not want the 27-year-old to return to the club when his loan spell at Villa is up.
That has cemented Rashford's resolve to find a new permanent club this summer, but he is unlikely to remain in the Premier League, with a move to Spain an attractive option. Villa have a £40million option to buy Rashford at the end of the loan agreement, but it is understood he does not favour a permanent move there and sees his future elsewhere.
Rashford wants to decide his next move and it is understood his representatives do not plan to address his future and hold talks with United until at least mid-June.
Sources close to Rashford have told Mirror Football the forward does not want to move to a London club but does want to play in the Champions League next season.
Villa's hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League suffered a setback with the defeat at City, in which Rashford equalised from the penalty spot. Emery's side sit seventh in the table, two points behind fifth-placed Newcastle.
Rashford's representatives have also moved to rule out a player swap deal with the likes of Villa's Ollie Watkins or Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, both of whom have interested United.
Having lost his England place when his form deserted him at United, Rashford earned a recall on the back of his upturn at Villa, with six assists to add to his four goals from 17 appearances.
Asked about Rashford's impact since switching to Villa, boss Emery said: 'I'm so happy with him. He's performing very well.
'He's been really important for us and he has to keep going. Now, on Saturday, hopefully he can help us again [in the FA Cup semi-final] and, like everybody, be ready and focused on this match.'
From the outside, Rashford's plans to depart United do not come as a surprise to some. Ex-Red Devil Teddy Sheringham believes the player's body language has spoken volumes.
"I don't think there's a way back for Marcus Rashford at Man United," he told CasinoApps.com when questioned about a potential return to his parent side. "I don't think he wants to.
"I look at the body language he giving off at Villa, and it's like he couldn't be any happier to be further away from Manchester United if he tried, to be honest. I think that's the vibe."

Fernandes turned down Saudi riches - but Man Utd skipper still did club wrong
Probably - no, definitely - the most interesting five minutes of the recent Europa League final in Bilbao came soon after the last whistle of a truly abject football match. Bruno Fernandes, to his credit, fronted up as he always does. Unsolicited, in front of a knot of reporters in the bowels of Estadio de San Mamés following the loss to Spurs, he suggested he would understand if Manchester United wanted to sell him and move on without him. At that point, any elite club worth its salt might well have thought long and hard about selling him and moving on. This is Manchester United we are talking about. For all his foibles on the field, Fernandes is a good guy. Off the pitch, he represents United brilliantly, speaks well and comes across as a fine captain. He is a good guy and a very good player. But for him to now be lauded for deciding to stay at Old Trafford is not the best reflection of what the club has become. Re-reading his explanation of the dalliance with Al-Hilal - whoever they are - it is hard to believe his commitment to United is as rock-solid as everyone makes out. 'The president of Al-Hilal called me a month ago to ask me about the possibility of moving there,' he said. Which, in my old-fashioned mind, constitutes an illegal approach. Which, in my old-fashioned mind, is tapping up. And, in my old-fashioned mind, it should have elicited a response along the lines of…'mate, if you want to sign me, talk to the club that has given me a contract worth £300,000 a week for the next two years'. Phone down. Yes, tapping up has gone on since the dawn of professional football but this was still a bizarre way of doing things. To have your captain and star player in discussions with another club while under contract is just odd. Unless, of course, United gave him permission, which does not seem likely. Fernandes, apparently, had to 'wait a while to think about the future'. After all, the president of Al-Hilal was, Fernandes said, 'a fantastic person'. In the end, his wife and Ruben Amorim helped convince Fernandes that his immediate future did not belong to Saudi Arabia. Which, considering he has been a decent player in a terrible United team in recent seasons, is, on the face of it, a good thing for the club. But this should never have been an issue. That Fernandes took the call from Saudi when under contract at United, that he seriously considered the move, is still a slight against what remains an iconic institution. Openly, Fernandes has happily admitted to talking to a Saudi Arabian club while being under contract at Manchester United. That is just wrong. And don't forget, as good as Fernandes has been - and he is a smashing footballer - he is still the leader of a very mediocre Manchester United team. He is still a part of failure. There are many strange elements of the whole Fernandes-Saudi saga. Let's face it, if Al-Hilal had actually tabled an offer of £100million for a player who soon turns 31, would United really have pleaded with a captain - a captain who led his team to only 11 Premier League wins in one season - to stay? For a multi-billionaire, Sir Jim Ratcliffe sometimes seems daft … but not that daft. Fernandes is a rare talent. But as skipper of a side that needs total transformation, it might have been best, all round, if he had taken up an offer that he clearly gave serious consideration to. And I suspect he, and the club, knows it. Sky has slashed the price of its bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more. Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games next season, an increase of up to 100 more.

The appointment of a new boss comes following the confirmation of the takeover by an American consortium of Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises while Kevin Thelwell recently officially joined the Light Blues from Everton as the new sporting director. It's all change at Ibrox and, here, the PA news agency looks at the in-tray awaiting Martin who has to quickly get his side ready for July's Champions League qualifiers. There is the perception that Martin was too dogmatic in his possession-based style of play and paid the price in the English top flight. The 24-year-old, who signed from Standard Liege in January 2023 for a reported fee of around £1.3million has two years left on his contract. Rangers fans remain disgruntled about players like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos who were allowed to run down their deals and leave for nothing. Enigmatic Cyriel Dessers has often been a frustrating figure since signing from Cremonese in 2023 but ended up top scorer in the Premiership last season with 18 goals while he netted 29 times for Rangers in total, taking his tally over two seasons to 51. Rangers fans appear split on whether the Nigeria international, contracted to 2027, should stay or go. But how much would it cost to replace him with a striker who guarantees the same goal return? Rangers fans watched their Old Firm rivals clinch their 13th league title in 14 seasons – albeit the Light Blues had a better head-to-head in league games – and only a Scottish Cup final defeat to Aberdeen on penalties denied the Hoops a sixth domestic treble in nine years. It will be down to Martin to change that direction of travel. Euro qualifiers next month The appointment of Martin dragged on and Rangers are facing a race against time for next season. The Light Blues will have to go through three rounds of qualifying in order to reach the league phase of the Champions League, the first of which is July 22-23. Rangers return for pre-season training on June 23 and, somehow, Martin needs to assemble a squad to hit the ground running.
