Zimbabwe stuns Namibia to qualify for Rugby World Cup for first time since 1991
Zimbabwe is the second side from Africa, after world champion South Africa, to secure a berth in the expanded 24-team World Cup in Australia in 2027. The Sables are also only the third side from Africa to reach the World Cup in the professional era.
Namibia has played in the last seven World Cups and remained in qualifying contention as the Africa Cup runner-up. It will meet the Asia championship runner-up, the United Arab Emirates, next Saturday in Uganda. The winner advances to the final qualification tournament.
Zimbabwe led 30-16 with 20 minutes to go but Namibia scored two tries to close the gap and missed a last-gasp penalty attempt from halfway.
The win was only Zimbabwe's fourth over Namibia in 35 matches.

Host said ahead of Sunday, Bennett had banned the words wooden spoon in the locker room. "It's a word we are not allowed to say," Host said. "He just avoids it at all costs. We've had a lot of injuries this year. "We're just trying to go out there, keep the gloves up and keep fighting every week." Latrell Mitchell, meantime, got through two thirds of Thursday's training session after he was named on the extended bench. Cameron Murray and Campbell Graham were also seen running, with Host confirming they are "only a few weeks away".

Wallabies hooker David Porecki retires from rugby
SYDNEY — Hooker David Porecki, who was a late injury withdrawal from Australia's lineup for the third test against the British and Irish Lions last weekend, has announced his retirement. Rugby Australia issued a statement Tuesday saying the 32-year-old Porecki, who sustained a heel injury last week, was retiring immediately and ending a career that included five seasons in Britain with Saracens and London Irish from 2015. He returned to Australia and the New South Wales Waratahs ahead of the 2021 Super Rugby season, and made his test debut a year later in a win for Australia against England in Perth. Porecki was part of Australia's 2023 Rugby World Cup squad and became the 88th Wallabies captain after an injury to Will Skelton, leading the team in three of its four pool matches at the tournament. Two-time champion Australia was eliminated in the group stage for the first time ever at a Rugby World Cup, hastening a change of coaching staff and leadership. The 31-year-old prop is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, giving him a chance of returning for the Sept. 13 test against Argentina in Sydney or the first match against New Zealand in Auckland two weeks later.

Fresh detail emerges in Des Hasler's Titans future after dressing room act
Titans fans might still see Des Hasler coach the club into the 2026 season with suggestions the dressing room spray has prompted a change of heart from the club's hierarchy. The Titans have answered calls in recent weeks to show fight in their improved outings having defeated the Warriors and gone down in a controversial defeat to the Panthers. Hasler's side has not looked like the lowly outfit that sit on 16 points, equal bottom with the Rabbitohs, having scored 50 points across their last two NRL games. And it has come after Hasler's epic full-time spray. After the Wests Tigers defeat, Hasler was seen in an epic post-match spray in the change rooms that was captured on camera and quickly circulated online. Hasler looked furious in the footage and could be seen calling back players from the showers to continue delivering what one can only imagine was an almighty serve from the veteran coach. The team has since responded to the spray with two vastly improved performances. And Channel Nine reporter Danny Weidler suggested all the reports of his exit at the end of the season might be off the mark. Weidler said while the Titans hierarchy may still call time on the coach's career at the end of the season, Hasler is working his way back into their good books. "I still wouldn't put my house on him coaching next year at the Titans, but from what I was told, that spray he gave on camera impressed people," Weidler said on Triple M Radio. "They have played OK the last couple of it showed the passion. I still think there will be a conversation at the end of the year, see where things are at. But I think they want to treat Des with respect." Des Hasler under pressure at Gold Coast Titans Last month, Broncos great Corey Parker questioned if the Titans should keep Hasler for the remainder of the season if reports around him potentially retiring were accurate. Speculation has mounted Hasler will call time on his career after the 2025 NRL season, which would see him cut short his contract that runs until the end of 2026. Hasler moved to shut down the speculation after his team's loss to the Eels in round 17. 'No, they're just whispers, mate. It's just rumour and innuendo," Hasler said of the speculation. Earlier in the season, reports emerged the Titans have the option in Hasler's contract to part ways with the coach if the club don't make the top eight. Reporter Michael Carayannis said on SEN Radio last month: 'It'll be called a retirement but it's a mutual understanding. The Titans can call it whatever they like but Des won't be the coach next season. It's been an absolute failure.' Whether he wants to get to 500 games I don't know but if he wants to retire it needs to happen now. There is no upside (to staying)." Hasler will most likely see out this season with the Titans seeing an improvement in recent weeks. They will take on the Rabbitohs this weekend with a chance to give themselves a two point buffer from the wooden spoon position if they win.
