Is ‘Lazarus' returning for season 2? Everything we know so far
With a mix of high-stakes action, sleek futuristic vibes, and a killer soundtrack (seriously, Bonobo and Kamasi Washington? Yes, please), Lazarus made a bold impression when it aired on Adult Swim and Max this spring. But now, viewers are left hanging—not just because of the cliffhanger ending, but because there's still no word on what's next. What Is Lazarus About?
Set in 2052, Lazarus kicks off with a world that seems like paradise thanks to a miracle drug called Hapna. It cures pain, disease, you name it. But then its creator, Dr. Skinner, returns with a chilling truth: the drug has a ticking time bomb built in. Three years after taking it, everyone's going to die—unless someone stops it. Enter Lazarus, a task force of five elite agents racing against a 30-day clock to find Skinner and save humanity.
The first season ran for 13 episodes, each one covering a day in that deadly countdown. Add in action scenes choreographed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski and it's no surprise fans were hooked. Has Lazarus Been Renewed for Season 2?
As of June 30, there's still no official update from Watanabe, MAPPA (the animation studio), or Sola Entertainment. And that silence has fans speculating.
Watanabe's known for his 'one-and-done' style—Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo both wrapped up cleanly in a single season. So some viewers think Lazarus might've been built that way too: a tight, complete story across 30 days. Still, that hasn't stopped theories from flying.
On X and Reddit, fans have pointed out that the finale did leave doors open. One popular theory suggests that Axel Gilberto could become the central character of a second season, possibly as the sole survivor trying to fix the chaos left behind. Some even feel the last episode hints at a bigger conspiracy still in motion. What Could Happen in Lazarus Season 2?
If Lazarus gets the green light for Season 2, there's so much potential. The finale (no spoilers, but wow) sets up a world where things could get even crazier. Fans are speculating that Axel Gilberto might take center stage, maybe on a solo mission to fix the mess left behind or even bring back his team. The show's unique setup—each episode covering one day of the 30-day countdown—could shift into something new, like a post-apocalyptic chase or a deeper dive into the moral gray zones Watanabe loves to explore.
Imagine more of that MAPPA animation magic, with Stahelski's action sequences cranking up the intensity. Plus, the music? Let's just say I'm crossing my fingers for more tracks that hit like Season 1's did. Characters like Abel Anderson, the steady leader, or Chris Blake, the team's firecracker, could get richer backstories, too. When Could Lazarus Season 2 Be Released?
No renewal means no solid release date, but let's dream a little. If MAPPA gives the go-ahead soon, we're probably looking at late 2026 or even 2027, given how long it takes to craft anime this polished. Season 1 wrapped production in about a year, so that's a rough guide. For now, UK fans can binge Season 1 on Channel 4's streaming service, while US folks can catch it on Max or Adult Swim reruns.

‘Rick and Morty' Spinoff ‘President Curtis' a Go at Adult Swim
Adult Swim is adding a new dimension to the Rick and Morty universe. During the animated series' panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, the show's team announced an animated spinoff, President Curtis, centering on voice actor Keith David's titular character, who has been a Rick and Morty series regular since the season 2 fan-favorite 'Get Schwifty' episode. President Curtis is co-created by Rick and Morty executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano. President Curtis will follow the commander-in-chief and his quirky staff as they navigate a range of crises, including interdimensional diplomacy, paranormal investigations, and unexplained phenomena. A premiere date has not yet been announced. 'President Curtis has always been a blast to play,' David said in a statement. 'Getting to explore his world more deeply in this new series is a dream. I can't wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn't around to steal the spotlight.' Added Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, 'This is a series we would have greenlit even if it didn't have anything at all to do with Rick and Morty. President Andre Curtis is just that good of a character. The rest of the world the team has fleshed out is super fun and totally stands on its own. We can't wait for you to see it.' Harmon and Siciliano praised David's character as one of their favorites to write. 'He's the only person in the multiverse who can go toe-to-toe with Rick and still hold office,' the co-creators said in a joint statement. 'Now we finally get to go on sci-fi missions from Curtis's point of view. And with Keith David leading the charge, it's going to be a wild ride.' Executive producers for President Curtis include Harmon, Siciliano, Danielle Uhlarik, Monica Mitchell and Steve Levy. Rick and Morty debuted on Adult Swim in 2013 and airs its season eight finale on Sunday. The growing franchise includes the digital-short spinoff Vindicators 2: Last Stand Between Earth and Doom and Adult Swim's series Rick and Morty: The Anime. Rick And Morty is giving Keith David's president his own spin-off
We're pretty sure that nobody, in the history of watching TV, has ever gone 'Ugh, more Keith David?' As he's floated through shows like Future Man, Community, Duster, Gargoyles (honestly, take your pick, there are dozens more readily available examples to choose from), David has consistently brought a mixture of warmth, humor, and gravitas to parts both big and small. Now he's getting a rare leading role, as Adult Swim announced at Comic-Con this afternoon that it's launching a new Rick And Morty spin-off series, President Curtis, centered on David's recurring POTUS/semi-antagonist. David was on hand at Rick And Morty's panel at the Con today to make the announcement, surprising the audience with his sudden appearance. 'President Curtis has always been a blast to play,' he noted. 'I can't wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn't around to steal the spotlight.' For those unfamiliar with the character, who's popped up in eight episodes of the show over its multi-year run, he's, well… The President of the United States, presented as one of the few people on the planet who can push back on series protagonist Rick Sanchez without ending up with some kind of exotic, fucked-up punishment hanging over his head. We're not entirely sure we buy Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen's claims that the character is so strong that the network would have greenlit the series even without the Rick And Morty connection. But there's no denying that David's performance has been a consistently fun guest note for the series since the character was introduced back in season 2 classic 'Get Schwifty.' President Curtis is a co-creation of Rick And Morty head honcho Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, a writer and producer who's been with the flagship show since penning 'Morty's Mind Blowers' back in season 3. In addition to David, the series is also set to star Stephanie Beatriz and his old Community co-worker Jim Rash. No word yet on when the series is expected to debut. More from A.V. 3 Prime Video action movies you (probably) haven't seen
Want to get your adrenaline fix without watching the same old shootouts and car chases? Prime Video's action movies section runs deep, but digging past the obvious picks can take time. There's a whole world of high-stakes thrillers, gritty brawlers, and stylish genre-benders just waiting to be discovered. And plenty of them are hiding right in plain sight. Some have big names attached, and others are cult favorites you might have missed. But all of them bring the heat. If you're in the mood for something fast, fierce, and just a little off the beaten path, here are three of the best action movies on Prime Video you probably haven't seen yet. Based on Irvine Welsh's novel and starring a gloriously unhinged James McAvoy, "Filth" follows a corrupt, coke-snorting Edinburgh cop named Bruce Robertson who's less interested in solving a murder case than in manipulating his coworkers, terrorizing suspects, and indulging every vile impulse he has. So yes, there's plenty of filth to be had here. But beneath the sleaze and chaos, this action flick is something much darker, sadder, and smarter. As Bruce's mental state deteriorates, the film shifts from grotesque black comedy to a shocking look at self-destruction, guilt, and mental illness wrapped up in the dressings of an action trip. It's wildly unpredictable and sometimes unpalatable, and if you can stomach the ride, it's one hell of a performance from McAvoy. Watch "FIlth" on Prime Video now Dev Patel directs and stars in this brutal, blood-soaked revenge thriller that blends the rage of "John Wick" with the raw desperation of "Oldboy," all set against the neon-lit underbelly of a corrupt Mumbai. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Patel plays an unnamed street fighter scraping by in underground cage matches while nursing some barely contained rage at a stolen childhood and a society that crushed him. But when he finally snaps, his violence comes fast and furious, messy and deeply personal. This decadent action thriller pits one broken man against a system that feeds on the powerless, and fortunately, we're the ones who win since we get a front row seat. Watch "Monkey Man" on Prime Video now Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman play a wealthy couple whose lavish home and strained relationship are both put to the test when a group of armed intruders storms in, demanding money and secrets they're not ready to give up. Yep, it's almost like your typical '90s thriller. What starts as a standard home invasion story quickly spirals into something more volatile, thanks to Cage's fast-talking energy and Kidman's typical magneticism. And if you're thinking about it being unhinged, as is the usual when it comes to Cage, you won't be disappointed. Watch "Trespass" on Prime Video now
