As the Next Generation of Deegans Continue to Make Their Marks, IMS Hosts IndyNXT and SMX Meet Up
Fans of two-time SMX 250 class champion Haiden Deegan might now all know that his older sister made the switch to IndyNXT after a stint in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Fans of Hailie Deegan may not know her little brother is absolutely dominating his first few seasons of SuperMotocross. Still, fans of the famous racing family have learned to expect nothing less.
This weekend, ahead of the first Supercross East West Showdown in Indianapolis, Indiana, Hailie and Haiden joined their parents at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run their IndyNXT car and SX Yamaha 25o side by side on the famed Brickyard 79 days before the 109th running of the Indiapolis 500.
Hailie joined her family fresh off her IndyNXT debut at St. Petersburg, where she finished 14th out of 21 starters. Her debut in open-wheel comes after a harsh rookie season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
The two series met at IMS with the older siblings of the Deegan family and their parents, Brian and Marissa, to take iconic shots of the two racing next to each other as they paced the frontstretch of the speedway.
Fans of the father, Brian Deegan, and the Metal Mulisha he founded know of his two eldest children's success as the proud father has helped showcase and market it since their early years.
Haiden, who won Supercross's East Coast 250 class last year, is looking to pair it with a West Coast championship this year before potentially moving up to the premier 450 class. The day after celebrating his and his family's accomplishments at IMS, Haiden and the complete SX 250 class met for the first East / West showdown of the season. Haiden brought home his fifth consecutive podium Saturday night in Indianapolis.

'Hunt for beef': Scott McLaughlin, Tony Kanaan's yearlong IndyCar feud renewed by crash
DETROIT — McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said Saturday he thinks IndyCar drivers "go to each others' birthday parties too often" in reference to a racing series that rarely features public spats once drivers hop out of the cockpit and get a second to cool off. But drivers and rival team principals? That's another story. A year-old social media feud between Arrow McLaren team principal Tony Kanaan and Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin was stoked again Sunday afternoon in the wake of McLaughlin's role in spinning second-year Arrow McLaren driver Nolan Siegel early in Sunday's Detroit Grand Prix. The incident, which McLaughlin was given a stop-and-go penalty for avoidable contact, was captured on the Fox broadcast, a clip of which circulated on Twitter, and which Kanaan quote-tweeted mid-race with a simple message of: "Oh ok then..." Following the race, McLaughlin, who managed to finish 12th despite the penalty after starting seventh, quoted the same video clip of the incident and wrote: "Misjudged this one. Ol' mate broke quite a bit earlier than I anticipated. Good to see McLaren team principals are still on the hunt for beef... @GoodRanchers (a McLaughlin sponsor) has loads for ya. I came looking for your team principal to have a chat but I couldn't find him. Oh wait..." Hangtown Motocross 250 Moto 2
Five minutes were taken off the clock with temperatures of 102 degrees. Chance Hymas was unable to mount up for Moto 2 after surviving the brutal Moto 1 and food poisoning at the start of the week. He failed to earn points for this race. In-Race Notes Lance Kobusch led his first Pro Motocross race after getting a strong start but it did not take long for Haiden Deegan to get around him. He grabbed the top spot on Lap 2. Kobusch fought the defending Motocross champion, but he crashed early in the race and dropped to the back of the field. Advertisement Casey Cochran had a strong start as well and moved into the second position early in the race. It took several laps before Jo Shimoda moved into a podium position, which he finally secured 10 minutes into the race.
