ACC preseason football poll is out. Here's where Miami is projected to finish
UM was voted to finished second in the 17-team ACC by the media, as unveiled by the league on Wednesday. The Hurricanes received seven votes to win the conference out of 183 overall ballots.
The Clemson Tigers, who won the ACC Championship last season, was the overwhelming favorite, selected to finish first on 167 ballots.
The SMU Mustangs, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Louisville Cardinals round out the top five.
Miami finished 10-3 last season and went 6-2 in league play. The Hurricanes' two league losses were on the road to Georgia Tech and Syracuse, with the loss to Syracuse in their regular-season finale knocking them out of a spot in the ACC Championship Game. Clemson beat SMU in the conference title game, but both the Tigers and Mustangs made the 12-team College Football Playoff.
The top two teams in league play during the regular season will meet in the ACC Championship Game on Dec. 6 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The full team-by-team projection based on media voting, which took place last week during the ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte, is as follows, with total first-place votes received in parenthesis:

Kelly earned a 3.33, putting the LSU head coach in the "pressure is mounting tier." If LSU reaches the playoff, even with a first-round loss, Kelly's job is likely safe. If LSU comes close but falls just short with double-digit wins, it's probably enough, too. But if LSU goes 8-4 again, there will be talk about LSU making a move. Kelly has strong support from the administration and has won a lot of football games -- both facts work in his favor. But the expectation at LSU is to win national championships. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith makes a major award watch list
Rejoice, college football fans! It's preseason watch list time, and one of the biggest ones announced its preseason watch list on Monday, and there is indeed an Ohio State football player on it. The Maxwell Award has been handed out annually since 1937 and goes to the players judged to be the best in college football. The award announced 80 names, and OSU wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was included (to nobody's surprise). Four Ohio State players have taken home the award that is handed out by the Maxwell Football Club since its inception. Howard "Hopalong" Cassidy won it in 1955, fullback Bob Ferguson took it home in 1961, Heisman winner Archie Griffin won in 1975, and Eddie George was the last to hold the Maxwell in 1995. Obviously, being on the preseason watch list means little because names can be added and culled down as the season goes on, but you have to be on the list at some point to win it, so Smith has that going for him. The superstar wide receiver hauled in 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns last season and had some of his biggest moments during the College Football Playoff national championship run. He should be poised to have another phenomenal year this fall as well as appointment television. While there were many intriguing storylines in 2024, the upcoming season may already surpass them with what's at stake. There's a new College Football Playoff format again, bluebloods looking to recover after down years in 2024 and a whole lot of key matchups throughout the year. Unlike the wait for the season itself, which at times has felt long, fans may not have to wait long for a potential game of the year as Week 1 is loaded with marquee matchups. However, the one that most are looking forward to is the battle between the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes and the Texas Longhorns. When discussing the matchup on a recent "College GameDay Podcast," Rece Davis expressed that between the two teams, Texas has a chance to answer some lofty questions. "I will also build up, we'll find out that Texas can answer the questions that people have about them," Davis said. "Which the questions are, how are they going to be on the offensive line? And, how are they going to be on the defensive line? I think the answer will be just fine." The Longhorns lost four starting offensive linemen to the NFL, and also saw four players from the defensive line rotation make the jump as well.
